@EDDSkitz I used to live in Western Washington and the district different between the west side of the cascade mountain range and the eastern side with the rain and plants is extremely striking. Years later in high school JROTC, we had an after school program named Raiders. We all had M 81 Woodland camouflage BTU uniforms. Originally they had named it, Rangers, but later changed it to Raiders. Was Army JROTC. Black is used a lot for professional services. Whether it's EP, building or bank security... camo would look very unprofessional in those settings. I'm not knocking camo, but can you see six different "guards" kitted-out in camo in a high-security place of business, Executive Protection w/up armored Escalades, etc? They could be the best trained in the world, but it would look like they were wearing something they dragged home from a deployment. The bottom line is that body armor isn't always for outdoor or non-urban environments. (And as I mentioned above, I live in SE WI... the colors here change weekly... if I have to rattle can, I keep all the colors that might fit for that week, even winter with snow on the ground you might want half white and half dark brown to move along trees.

Those specialty patterns are only made in limited choices of materials. So even if gear manufacturers wanted to make, say a pair of gloves in MC Black, well they only have 50/50 Nyco or 100% cotton. Neither one is a choice they would make gloves in. So they only make T-shirts or pants in MC Black because that's all the material they have to choose from.

However, he had turned it inside out so the fuzzier part was on the outside. It took me a long time to figure out why it worked so well. Your eyes naturally want to focus on things but with that fuzzy side out, near or far, it appeared blurry being fuzzy. Your eyes just wanted to slide off it and move on to something, anything that it could lock on to. Food for thought.

Some state police utilize M81 as well as some foreign entities that could one day be "peacekeepers". I've thought of the "civilian camouflage" pattern being born out of not using a pattern at all but using the appropriate shades of the base green, brown, sand and black and combining different colored components. Green carrier, sand cumberbund, black mag pouches, brown helmet etc. Even to the point of You and a buddy each buy same make/model of carrier but in different colors and then trade front panels, mix one shoulder strap of each color etc. We're really just talking about breaking up patterns at a reasonable distance and that could work and definitely be distinct upon up close inspection to allow for friendly identification.

In the community that I know of, (non-government) there is a fondness for Rhodesian brushstroke because of its historical significance and Tiger Stripe for its “Cool factor”. Again, it’s not really based on “effectiveness” as a hunting pattern as there are myriad commercial patterns that are more effective, kryptek and such. My thoughts are more of a reply to the notion of what to wear so you don’t look like Feds.
I would imagine…just guessing here, I don’t know anyone with it…is that the desert tiger stripe would be a great pattern for a dry, tan climate? Looks way cool, And still meet the “requirements” to be a pattern not used by government agencies?

Woodland works great in most environments, especially the eastern half of the US. And, based it is. Ive kept all of my old woodland gear as it remains very effective. Iv'e 'upgraded' to wearing a mix of coyote tan and ranger green pieces and both of those colors gel with woodland pretty well, when mixing them together.

Wearing different pattern top and bottom helps greatly in breaking up your human profile in the field.

Back in 2005, my unit was doing an NTC rotation. We'd just been issued the brand-new ACU (the first gen that was like pajamas.) I was helping out on the sniper range, and when our guys in ACU went downrange with the cadre in M81, an odd thing happened. The cadre in their M81 BDUs (albeit faded) disappeared among the blue-green-gray sagebrush, while our guys in the blue-green-grey ACU were still easy to spot.

I think M81 is also the most low-key camo in public perception; it reminds many of “grandpa’s old duck hunting shirt”

Sounds like a solid and logical thought process to me. M81 for the win. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍

i love that you put thought into your offerings. Not selling the "cool " black color because it has no purpose in self defense or combat situations. I'm a mechanical engineering and appreciate the level of detail in your thinking. If you have any Career opportunities let me know :)

Love M81. Favorite pattern by far.

I thought for a second when “large plate carrier” was said it was pertaining to a 7.62 version of the ready rig. I’m still hoping for that. Also, different print standards for M81 just makes full kit even cooler.

Yeah, I want a ready rig for my 308.

I really like the “short videos” you guys should keep going that way
