A little wild for sure, but she’s only 19 here. She sang Senta 2 years later…at Bayreuth!!!…with George London!! Not too many Queens of the Night have ever done that! She sings the difficult Ballade in original key of A major, up a full tone from now standard key. I finally heard her “live” at the Brooklyn Academy as Emilia Marty in her 50s, and a riveting Kostelnicka at the Met when she was a few weeks shy of 67! Her voice became “problematic” (unsteady, driven, somewhat wooly) very early, but lasted long, long, long!
If it's any consolation, I am glad she abandoned this kind of work for Wagner even if she was never the 'ideal' Wagnerian soprano. This is performance is...something else.
