Always glad to hear stories with the Misfits, even if they only show up at the end.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I really liked how you put this story together. It was great to suddenly realize who she ran into!
Your story crafting is most excellent! The misfits and this universe can go down so many different storyline. Brilliant!
I look forward to many more.
Happy ending and another great character. Makes me so sad that this is a real story that happens in our world all the time. 😢
Yeah, I had a hard time with this story. However, I am grateful for it.
As always, a gripping adventure where one is never quite sure how the story is going to end. This one never seemed like an hour long. Brilliant. I have listened to all your stories twice now except Cup Cakes, that one I've listened to 3 times as it's so damned funny. Great writing, thanks..
Thanks, Frank! So glad you're enjoying. Not sure when it's coming, but after this week's I could definitively be persuaded to put another fun/funny one on the schedule soon.
A powerful story. I am excited to see how way that this tale develops [pes.
Well this was another great story. I don't think enough people want to acknowledge that these things happen far too often. Thank for this story. Very heart-wrenching. I am grateful to writers like yourself who write soldiers as selfless and of good morality. Unlike avatar, my kids hate that movie because they see it as anti military and there for anti dad and his old war scarred friends lol. Have you read Robert A. Heinlein's Citizen of the Galaxy? Your story made me reflect on it as well as real life.
Thanks, SC. I'd say I've read "some" Heinlein, but not all of his works, and not Citizen. I will try to check it out. The one drawback to writing so much (if there is one) is that I hardly have any time to read these days.
I think if I had to put my finger on why these military characters (at least on my end and seemingly yours) aren't anti-military is that I write primarily to ask questions rather than make statements (usually--don't eat bugs being an obvious exception 😂). But on my end that starts from a place of respect for every character--genuinely trying to envision their worldview rather than taking a position on it. That way I'm not forcing them into anything that (at least I think) doesn't seem organic for them. That's an aspiration anyway. Whether I'm successful or not at it isn't really for me to say, but I think it's a good headspace to start from--at least for me. The moustache-twisty villain isn't nearly as compelling for me as the one I can look at and think, "I really hate what this character is doing, but I can see where they're coming from."
@@RoweLit Well, I think you are doing a great job. I like how your stories have progressed showing the tough vets will follow a young women. Vets don't need to be the figure head, having proved themselves to each other they don't feel the need to continue to do so. Recognizing an influential person and giving them their support when they share morals and goals with you is a natural thing, especially for a veteran. The age, sex or physical stature really doesn't matter, as long as they will get the job done.
From the veteran's point of view, The character's are developing wonderfully. People really are more afraid of blades than guns lol. You and I however, have enough medical knowledge to know that a GSW has far more lethal potential than most wounds inflicted by a blade. Yet, most will shy away from the knife and think they can deal with a person just holding a gun. The tactical Tomahawk still holds its own on the battlefield today. I wouldn't be upset to see them emerge into your universe lol. Perhaps the hammer/spike end would be well suited for knocking bots circuits loose or armoured human adversaries lol.
Oh man. I was horrified about what might happen but extremely satisfied with the end. I also have been loving your Mechanics of Fiction lectures. As always, well done.
Thanks, MJ! Been tough to add new Mechanics lately, but I have one in the works. Might be tough with Misfits coming up next week (they're always long). But soon.
@@RoweLitNot to worry! I’ve got plenty of back catalog to work through before catching up. Best of luck with Misfits next week!
PE it's been awhile since I commented
Not enough time to enjoy time. But Surety was time well spent. 5 stars out of 5. Really held me. Story gripping and the crew of Yankee added for good measure. Happy ending needed where similar story In the real world too often not. Bought and read your short stories#1 some time ago. Very good.
Thanks, John! Glad to hear it on all counts, especially that first collection. Very proud of that one. It kinda blows my mind how those stories really became the foundation for stories like this one.
Absolutely incredible my man! Riveting storytelling and the Misfits topped it off...Bravo good sir👏
@RoweLit I was gripped, nervous and anxious...probably one of the single best hour+ of entertainment i can recall, and the last 15 minutes floored me! Can't thank you enough for the joy your stories are giving me✌️
How are you able to write an engaging hour long novel in seven days is the true sci-fi to me 😁
Thanks, VPU. I can definitely attest it is not easy. But I will say having a great audience ups the motivation to keep going. Then it's just a question of being disciplined and making sure I'm starting as early as possible. Plus, there's nothing I'd rather be doing more than this 🙂
Wow! Another awesome story. Thursday is becoming my favorite day of the week for your posts. Thanks bunches.
Thanks, Ron! I like Thursdays too, but I could always use a recharge by early afternoon ⚡😴
When mis fits with the badass transom showed up 😢well I cried good tears
There's definitely not enough Misfits to go around in this galaxy. Coming back tomorrow for more! 😃
@@RoweLitPE how did the mis fits know to rescue that girl I was shocked to see them appear but was glad to see them
Though I felt some relief at how this story ended, it was heartbreaking to listen to. But, that is not a complaint. Rather, I appreciate your willingness to tackle uncomfortable and even horrifying topics that are sadly very grounded in modern day, real world experiences. Maybe we are not as skilled and capable as the Misfits (they do have the benefot of plot armor after all), but I think in being confronted by a story such as this, we can be prodded and inspired to at the very least not remain complacently idle in the face of injustice and to render such aid and witness as we are all capable to those in need.
I love this misfits series 🎉
I've listened to all of your stories and they are my favorites.
Cheers, Andrew! Glad you're enjoying it. I do love writing them, so perhaps that's coming across. Definitely more to follow!
You did too good telling this story. I raised 2 daughters as a single parent, the story illicits anger and rage in me. A great segway into the misfits, glad for the mostly happy ending.
Thanks, David! Yeah, this one was not an easy one to write either. I had the benefit of knowing who she'd bump into eventually, which helped keep me on track.
These are awesome to the point where I have spent 47 minutes trying to write a comment that’s “legibly fluid” lol mark it 59minutes because he makes me mentally embark on a verbal adventure such as he does every week, which is inspiring . I wish I had been part of the stories years before lol ……. Everything’s dope super captivating
Update wasted that much time thinking while the story was playing soo I’m starting over hahahah
My friend this story horrified me and I kept walking away from it. I'm a father of a 9 yr old and this is a real fear. Finally I trusted your judgesment and listened. You are a victim of your own genius. This started pit as a complete nightmare but was a great story. Sorry it took so long for me to listen. I should have known better and trusted in your judgment to tell a great story of one of today's biggest crime in a way that was vixtorious. Thank my friend
It was totally worth it. I have been busy with my girl's summer vacation, watching the banking system break, the Russian Ukrainian war and my in depth study of the old testament during my spare time. Plus I was introduced to Kennshi (a video game). I value your work to much to half listen to it. But now I'm 2 stories behind. I shall catch up! But thank you so much!
@@mrtodddelaroderie Apart from the summer vacation that sounds all old testament 😂 Humbled to be on the list, Todd.
Human trafficking is the most deeply disturbing topic yet. i could feel a 180 coming in the concourse. i should have guessed who would provide the happy ending !:-)
Your portrial of the feelings of an enslaved person was heart wrenching 😱👍👍
Wow! The best yet. I don’t understand why you are not a billionaire. Books, movies, even video games. Maybe you just need to be discovered.
Cheers, Carl! At least a part of it is that I don't aspire to be one 😀 If you liked this one, you might not want to miss today's story ...
This is my second listen to this, one of my favorite, stories you’ve created. So awesome!
Great story. Curios if it was inspired by sound of freedom. Love the universe your building. Keep it up
Thanks, DVD! Actually, it's just a coincidence. I've heard about SOF, but don't have the time to go to the movies, unfortunately. The inspiration was really the topic of mobile cities--typically when writing to a topic, I'll ask myself "Who could this tech or scenario really pose a problem for?" and then I'll put a character into a bad situation.
This should be in the Misfits playlist, just before Lime Harbor maybe
Ohh yeah you're playing a very long game. Glad to be along for it. Had been kinda avoiding this story, don't think I heard the ending. Deep man very deep.
Thanks, G! Glad to have you along 🙏😃 Yes, I've got no intention of slowing down or stopping, so that might be the longest game you can play.
Holy crap that story really twisted my stomach. Then you know who, and you know who showed up and I just cried from relief. Which was kind of inconvenient because I was on my way to conduct an investigation (I’m an investigator for my state environmental regulatory agency) so I had to take a second lol. All that said, what a great story! Thank you! Human trafficking, especially of children, is the thing that makes me more angry than most other things in the world. And the fact that just two of the worlds nations could use their intelligence agencies and military might to end this problem once and for all and don’t just makes me so angry.
Thanks, Kevin! Sorry about the mysterious onion vapor that attacked you on the way to the job 😭 If anybody asks, I'll definitely back you up that it's totally been going around 😃Yes, curious how that is. Leads to some interesting conclusions 🤔
Yeah… all those onion VOCs. That’s what it must have been. Totally was setting off the Multi RAE 😉
That speech to text comment I left is a bit atrociously done, eh?
Looking forward to the story!
A rough story that has a great ending, hang in there till it wraps up.
Thank you
Goddamn this one is intense. Was scary for the girl. Then: bad ass. Shat in the ventilation, and "go back to school specifically to destroy our enemies together, later." Sweet!!
Great tale! My cat is sitting here beside me...whose name is Sebastian...
😳🤝🤝🤝🤝👏👏👏👏hell on earth still is...✨🕊️
Even in the future, not on earth, G, I'm banking on people still being people. In most aspects I think that's brilliant. But the worst of us isn't going away, unfortunately.
Just because a story is set aboard a space doesn’t make it science fiction, especially when the setting has little or no effect on the plot. So I‘m not even sure this is actually science fiction. I mean you could replace „space ship“ with „Mexico City“ and the plot still works
Back next week (7/20/23) with more Misfits!
Rowe, you have done it again. That was an amazing story. It gave me pretty bad anxiety LOL. Really didnt expect the tie in of the crew of Yankee Chaos. I feel like "The Yankee chronicles" could and should be an HBO mini-series. Well done sir. (hands clapping)
@@eriknulty6392 Thanks, Erik! Glad you found it so. I think sometimes as the writer knowing the outcome is easier than being a reader who can't help but stress about what's going to happen--at least on behalf of the characters. I never know how readers will react to the story though 😀If there's a producer out there who agrees with you, a conversation can be had 🤣
I’m a recent follower and fan of your writing and I enjoy your work immensely! Currently I am working my way through, catching up with what I’ve been missing. Question though, about where in the Misfits story timeline does this story, Surety, fit?
@@phillipchase4491 Hi, Phillip! Glad to hear you're enjoying the channel 😃Not to spoil recent Misfits episodes, but this story's timeline and the timeline for Misfits are getting close to crossing. They haven't yet, though. Hope that helps (without it being a spoiler).
