- MAW XLR Pedal - Available at oldbloodnoise.com/pedals/maw-x... and participating dealers worldwide.
What began as a simple request for a vocal version of an OBNE effect spiraled into a multi-function device with 10 new effects, versatile in/out and send/return sections oriented toward any instrument you want to throw at it, and ample control over all elements. It’s the new multi-tool for effects lovers on stage and in studio.
In an attempt to succinctly explain the parameters and capabilities of MAW, we find Dan on a night-off at the bar and let him walk us through three different real-time MAW scenarios. He starts with Ryan's vocals and explores the Saturation section, some Delays, Reverbs, and everyone's fave, Octaves. Did we mention MAW has trails? Ryan starts to wild card a little bit so Dan moves onto showing us what MAW does in the context of a Snare mic and an Overhead mic on Brent's drum set. Dan goes over some short and long Reverbs and Delays on the drums as well as Phaser on the Overheads. We then hear the Alpha Haunt Fuzz in the Send / Return, larging-and-in-charging that snare signal. This is also where he explains the Clever-Switching function of MAW's footswitches-tap to engage the effect, hold for momentary function. Once the stage is put back together after the drums got knocked over Dan explains MAW in the context of an Organ. He effects Ben's signal with the Rotary, Pitch, and finally Short and Long Delay modes of MAW and then plugs in two Expression Sliders to control the Feedback functions of the two independent Delay Modes. By that point Dan is ready get off the inter-dimensional roller coaster he's riding and just catch the band.
Thanks to them by the way, the House Band is Benjamin King on Organ, Brent Hodge on Drums, and Ryan Lindsey on vocals. and Thank you to all the patrons who came out for MAW that tornadic night in late August in Oklahoma City and celebrated MAW with us. If you ever find yourself in OKC and are looking for a sturdy place to wet your whistle, 51st Speakeasy off of Western comes recommended. Thanks to our friend Greg for facilitating this whacky concept.
A little bit of technical information about the video:
Dan is speaking into an Electro Voice 635a microphone, Brent's drums are mic'd with an EV RE-20 on the overhead and a Sennheiser 421 on the Snare. The Organ is running direct-out into MAW. Connor is off-camera capturing it all via a mobile audio rig.
MAW features:
XLR preamp for use with microphone level signals
Switchable saturation section with blend, volume, and tone controls
Two independently controlled effects sections with modulations, delays, reverbs and octaves, and controls over mix and two parameters of each
A send/return to patch in external effects
Post-saturation dry output for mixing versatility
Relay bypass switching with momentary or latching functionality and effects trails
Standard 9VDC center negative power
MAW is available for $279 USD direct at oldbloodnoise.com from Old Blood Noise Endeavors and from participating dealers worldwide.

Probably the greatest pedal-explanation video I've ever seen. Never stop, you beautiful people!
we shan't. thank you.
This might be the best product demo I’ve ever seen. Whoever edited this deserves an award and a few drinks.😂
This is so well done. Seriously this is the haute couture of pedal vids.
I feel like I just watched a David Lynch film. I’m sold
High praise, thanky thanky
Top-notch video! One of the best product videos I've ever seen.
Also, Dan is a real pro-explainer.
The joy this video gives me is indescribable
That's really great to hear
the best video
Thanks Andy
I wish all pedal demos were like this. This is absolutely fantastic. So creative and well made
thank you very much, more fun stuff in store.
OBNE demo videos are always a thing to see.
Guys, i know this video was posted 4 yrs ago...and, i also know that i, obviously, am a bit late to this party, buuuut....,A. This video is fkn too funny..."Cash cow" lol. Aaand #2. I finally ordered MAW!!!! Beyond psyched. Thanks for pushing it folks
Incredible
❤️
I'd sit through that show every night.
Ooh mow mow
@@oldbloodnoise cash cow
Its a good thing this was not available in the 60s, cause you know...it was crazy enuff
ha
Is Ryan on bath salts?
This pedal will be a real cash cow.
Definitely the most creative gear demo I've ever seen. Well done!
Thanks. a tornado even touched down nearby that night. it was wild.
If David Lynch directed a pedal demo video, this is probably what it would be like
well dang
I accidentally bought this, I was looking into it previously. It arrived early and i love it.
This is an incredible video. It's art in itself.
Thank you Justin, it was a lot of fun to produce.
Best pedal of the year! I'm gonna buy one for sure.
Absolutely fantastic!
Totally buying this thing now.
This video is awesome! Just picked this up today as my first ever pedal. Excited to throw it on everything!
First pedal ever!
Love the format!!!! Awesome!!!!!
thank you
You guys make the most creative craziest demo videos. I just love it. Can't wait to get my first OBNE pedal. Getting the Darkstar first, then I want them all!!!! Best pedals on the market today in my opinion. Keep up the good creative work Brady, Dan, and your crew. Awesome!
thanks for taking the time to say so, Michael
just ordered. first time using any pedal for my vocals. super hyped! great vid.
that's great to hear!
Awesome demo!
This is just perfect and the reason why we have all the OBNE pedals
Thank you Ellende
That was so much fun
Definitely the best pedal video I’ve ever seen. Gave you a subscribe.
Thanks Danny
I got contact drunk from this
Just bought the pedal for Christmas! Your video sold me real fast. Though I am very lazy in the install and my dirty dark secret is that I live INSIDE THE BOX, but now I am hoping this pedal will let me insert my Dark Star and go crazy with Timothy Leary style lectures about Life in the Cosmos and add in some Indian Sitar. Well sounds like a deal!
heck yeah
Pretty cool presentation, love it....
Thank you
Best one ever....cash cow
AMAZING PRESENTATION! NICE MUSIC!
Thanks Volt
Can we get a series of videos of just Ryan and the band, exactly like this?
yes please
Now I know what I want for christmas.
yeaaaa this demo video is sick lmao. can't wait to try this one out
Great vid
This is truly the Golden Age of pedals; a technology that is the last bulwark against the tyranny of the algorithm and machine learning in music production.
That's a powderful assessment
Patiently awaiting forthcoming album of the year, "Cash Cow"
And suddenly I find myself transported to an alternative karaoke video version of Nick Cave’s Fifteen Feet Of Pure White Snow. Or am I suffering from withdrawal? :)
This pedal is goofball. I want it. I don't even care for vocals, but I need it
you don't even have to use it on vocals. You DO need it.
Looks like I'll be buying my first old blood noise endeavors pedals VERY soon
Same here!
Fabulous news friends
awesome!
Best videos in the business, personally I don't have an immediate use for the MAW, but that's never been a good reason for not buying something, so see ya in the checkout aisle.
I also need to get myself one of those pull-string thingies that Dan uses so effectively... he turns on/off lights, kills the video... maybe hook it use to a wall-mounted, spring-loaded OBNE Expression Slider, pull the string it moves the slider down, release the string and the spring returns the slider to the top position.
PATENT PENDING
I woke up in the middle of the night and watched this and not sure if I’m still dreaming wait am I really typing
I did the same
Is it possible to control the "CTR1" knob of the section A or B with an expression pedal? When I plug in an expression pedal in either "EXP A" or "EXP B", only the respective "CTR2" knob is affected. Furthermore, how does the Mic level needs to be setup when using the PAD switch off? I can hear audio output all the time even when Mic level knob is all the wat to the left. Is that supposed to be always in the middle position (12 o'clock) when using a microphone (and therefore the PAD switch is pointing down)? Also, I barely hear any difference when using the phaser or rotary effect on my voice (even when the mix know is maxed out).
This is basically Richard Swift in a box and I don’t think I can live without it 😆
wowee, that's big time. Thank you
Will it send from the XLR in with a mic to the instrument out?
Does anyone know if that pedal does behave well in a PA with a loud band ? No too much feedbacks with a light distortion + reverb ? Many thanks !
I call it the Jon Spencer on Acid pedal.
That's a good descriptor
Sorry for being late! I’m ordering this cash cow now. Is the band coming to Columbus, Ohio?
Insanely good video omg - the best instructional I've ever seen. Buying this fucking thing wow wow wow
ha, thanks Kerrick.
Weird. Love it - Looking for for mic pre that's mainly just an xlr interface ( pedal cracker/ mixing link/ voco loco) so I can use guitar pedals for vocals or horn.
you guys make something without all the extra "cash cow"? 🤔
great demo and seems like a great product, might grab one of these
does anyone know if the EXP inputs are also compatible with standard expression pedals or only with OBNE faders?
compatible with all standard expression pedals
Ryan sold me on this...I bought it and now I am keep singing non stop "Cash Cow" on it. I can't stop...help me!!!
...PILSNER
Curious pedal. I wonder if you can use the built in effects loop to use other pedals with no effect active on MAW. Or maybe just use the saturation with another pedal active in the effects loop? Pretty crazy to think I could have saturation, two effects via this pedal, plus another effects pedal in the loop. I was just about to buy a Cusack Pedal Cracker to use guitar pedals for vocals, but if this does the same thing AND has built in FX...
Yep, that's totally possible to do. The fx loop is in-series between Banks A and B, so there is fun to be had there as well.
someone call the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion!
This could have been directed by Aki Kaurismaki
wow, thank you for that
That pedal is basically 3/4 of my vocal board. i neeeeeed! are exp b and exp pot asignable or wich one of the 2 ctrl pots do they control ?
the A+B expression jacks are fixed to the Ctrl 2 pots of both the A and B effects banks
I'm not clear on the benefit of the effects loop here. How is this different from just running in-line? Thank you.
Great question. There are a few things that makes the fx-send/return useful in MAW. The primary being that the send/return allows the user to add any fx pedals (not just the on-board fx banks built into MAW) into the signal path of the microphone. Extremely useful when using XLR cables in the input/output of the pedal (ie. in the scenario of recording a violin or voice).
@@oldbloodnoise So your FX loop might allow a user to run an eq or compressor before it hits MAW's effects?...or would the loop be between effects? Thank you for your time.
@@LeeRedfieldmusic Yes, the FX loop is in between Bank A and Bank B in the signal path.
Fun demo. This looks like fun for my sax...... I think the ONLY shame is that one (or both) of the delays can't be sync-ed to a clock signal, gate/trigger, or MIDI clock. Maybe y'all could think about it for a v2. (Eurorack CV inputs for the rates would be great also...). Also as a result I looked at your slider and ramp - those are awesome...
Hey Paul, thanks for checking out the Expression Slider and Expression Ramper. That's excellent input on the MAW, thanks for sharing that!
What would I do if I want to use this for recording? What output does it have? Is there any way I could stick my mic into it then route it into an audio interface? Sorry for stupid questions.
Not stupid questions at all. MAW has both quarter-inch and XLR outputs to choose from, along with a Dry-Out. Those outputs can be run into your audio interface.
Hi. Could I use and individually edit more than one effect at the same time within one (of the two first) footswitchable effects engines?
2 - octaves + phaser
3 - saturation
...or just one effect for each footswitch?
Thank you.
You cannot. Only 1 mode per bank is selectable at a time
Too bad!
I really like the song is it Louis Louis or 96 rears? Do they (Maw) have a cd out?
the band in the back only materialized for this single stormy evening, unfortunately.
Louie Louie feel to it definitely
"Attention customers! Mr. Surfers ... Mister ... B ... H ... Surfers ... Your case of new MAW pedals ... is now ready. Also ... special order for ... Mister ... Gibson ... Haynes ... with the wah and ring modulation mods ... your case of new pedals ... is also ... now ready. Thank you!"
6:28 cracked open a fresh bottle of patch cables
Was hoping someone might catch the bottle cap.
This would be a no brainer if it had midi and memory presets!
Speakeasy has to be my favorite place in OKC.
Wait these dudes are from Oklahoma? Im up in Tulsa!
@@BobbyGeneric145 yup! They've been cranking pedals out of norman for a solid bit. 🙌🙌
I’ve been using my bass preamp pedal to take my mic into my interface but it’s rather hummy- maybe this thing will do better?
I use my jhs colour box to get a mic into my pedal chain.
What does the pad switch do?
Turns down the gain in case your signal going into a console or something is too hot.
I’ve been looking for a pedal like this for years. Definitely gonna buy when I can.
great to hear!
BRONCHO in the house
where can I get "cash cow" as a single?
you will find something equally pleasing at broncho.tv
Superb.
Thanks a lot
the firemen´s ball again
cash cooow
Pilsner?
Newbie question alert: 1/4" in and out means I could actually (also) use it on my guitar, right?
Yep!
@@oldbloodnoise Take my money!
Tap Tempo?
Where does the send/return fall in the signal chain of this?
in between effect a and effect b
@@bradysmith3311 thanks!
Does it have tap tempo? If not, whyyyyy?!
Agreeeeed. This thing is amazing ofc but a tap tempo would be lovely
I don’t sing. At all.
But ima buy this for the hell of it.
same
mic your guitar, drums, drawers closing, steps stepping, or cats meowing. MAW is for everything
Is Isaac dressed up as McMurray?
McMurray’s a piece of shit.
It's a little crass that they keep referring to their product as the cash cow in this advertisement for it.
you’ll be pleased to know that it is anything but a cash cow.
@Old Blood Noise Endeavors that actually makes me kinda sad. You all seem like a cool company and I'd rather you be successful.
@@oldbloodnoise :( Hmm... I bought one about an hour ago. Hope I tipped the scale in the right direction for ya a tad! Ha. But seriously, The Pedal Playhouse YT channel did a stellar review of this thing!
Watch this on acid!!!!
8:30 pretty sure those dudes are
Wonderful demo video!!!
I already reached out to you via contact form, but why not try here too. I'd love to test this pedal on my channel for some rap vocals.
Hit me up if you interested and keep up the great work ✌️✌️✌️
This pedal sucks! (Fit's the promo-video though...)
Just bought one and tried it out. It's going to be returned tomorrow!
eg:
- the Octaver makes cheapest Mickey Mouse/ Chipmunk- sounds and muffled low Darth V. tones... Ridiculous! (Compared it to a 6 years old Boss ve-2, which sounds way better!)
- stepping on a footswitch while singing produces an audible klicknoise through the pa...
- Saturation simply overdrives the voice instead of enhancing overtones first...
- Delay and reverb don't sound very good for almost 300€...(even worse than the former mentioned Boss ve-2 imho)
etc.
Think I'm gonna make a full review on this dissapointing and completely overprised Item.
Definately not worth the money!
We're sorry it wasn't up your alley. Would love to see this full review of disappointment you speak of, we're always open to critique.
