Metropolitan Line (Amersham to Aldgate) - DRIVERS EYE VIEW [Part 1 of 4]

- Shown in four parts is London Underground's Metropolitan line. Part 1 shows us the route from Amersham to Aldgate filmed in late 2022. We join an early morning commuter train which runs fast from Moor Park to Harrow and then again to Finchley Road and Baker Street, this gives the Metropolitan a main line title.
Once at Finchley Road we head underground and remain so all the way to Aldgate. After Baker Street, the traditional home of the Metropolitan Railway, we join the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines all the way to both Aldgate and Liverpool Street respectively.
Our train travereses the worlds first underground railway having opened back on the 10th January 1863. As always sit back and relax and enjoy the journey. *Please be advised that the drivers eye views in certain places were filmed on seperate days due to poor weather conditions and the early mornings where it was too dark to film. Audio has been prerecorded from within the passenger saloon to try and match the movements of the train. Audio announces give a wide variety of destinations. Also I've been sneaky and used audio from a Chiltern Turbo 165 on the stretch from Rickmansworth to Moor Park. I hope it doesn't affect the viewing too much.*

There are also two banner repeaters on the District line, one mid-platform at Kew Gardens towards Richmond and one shortly after leaving East Putney going towards Wimbledon.
I used to commute Amersham to Aldgate daily back in the early 1980's but I swear the old A60 stock trains were a lot faster than these current ones.
That's cause they actually were. The new trains accelerate faster, however they have a lower top speed. In my opinion the S8 should have had mainline spec, similar to the capitalstars, instead of being designed to be a metro train
@@memediatekThe A Stock can get up to 70/75 mph if pushed! Whilst the S8 Stock can reach up to 60/62 mph on a normal service between Amersham - Moor Park, Fast from Moor Park - Harrow on the Hill (shown in this video) and Finchley Road - Wembley Park. Though I’ll give you this, the A Stock felt a lot faster. Even though they were restricted to 50mph after the 90’s I believe?
In the Stockholm Metro, trains are even slower. They only run at 50 mph.
Very enjoyable cab ride along the Metropolitan Line. It's amazing how they share with Chiltern Railways for it's stations.

Great video mate i used to love being on the old met line train in the wembley park to finchley road race where it ran next to the jubilee stopping service and talking about that i am sure the old met line silver trains were faster than these new ones

That S Stock cab doesn't appear to have the screen cleaned since going into service.

Great video just turned up on my recommended. Minor error in commentary. You said electrification to Watford took place in 1961. This was not so as it was electric from 1920s and trains were the lovely old T class compartment emus. Electrification to Chesham and Amersham was in 1961. LT ran steam freight trains to Watford until around 1970 using ex GW pannier tanks.

i can do this route on TS22, lol i am an anorak that has the rail driver cab controller, it sounds and feels like a diesel. as it vibrates like hell if i want, yea wanted to look at rail driver training with Stobart, but i have positional vertigo so it buggers it all up as far as health requirements.

Beeching didn't close the Great Central Line, GCR became part of the LNER when the big 4 groupings occurred, then when British Railways was born, and the GCR line became part of BR's Midland Region, Midland Region managers hated the GCR, they saw it as competition for the Midland Main Line, which unlike the WCML was a bit of sickly child, even St Pancras Station was under threat of closure for years which was only averted by redeveloping the Terminus into St Pancras International. BR Midland Region closed as many stations on the GCR route as they could and eventually made the line so unprofitable that it was closed, however, a stretch from Nottingham (Weekday Cross via Nottingham High Lvele Station) to Ruddington remained open into the '80s
At 42:37 the narrator probably meant the ATP, since if the ATO only fails the train can be driven normally under the ATP supervision, but if this one also fails the driver have no clue of maximum speed and expected stopping positions, therefore running in restricted manual

On the ATO section are the doors opened and closed by the driver/operator?
With a speed limit of 60 mph, are trip-cocks really enough to prevent a collision or derailment?

Chalfont & Latimer to Chesham is the longest distance between stations on the underground at nearly 3.1 miles

I needed to know why don’t they dig a tunnel and do an extension for the main line Train so that they can extend the unused abandoned underground train stations.
Why couldn’t they use the part D78 Stock train doors on the sides and also restructure the front face of the A60 and A62 stock and that includes the class 313, class 314 and class 315 remix and make them all together and also redesign them an overhead line and also make them into Five cars per units and also having three Disabled Toilets on those Five cars per units A60 and A62 stock trains and also convert the A60 and A62 stock trains into a Scania N112, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Engines and also put the Loud 7-Speed Voith Gearboxes even Loud 8-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Gearboxes in the A60 and A62 stock, class 313, class 314, and class 315 and also modernise the A60 and A62 stock and make it into an 11 car per unit so it could have fewer doors, more tables, computers and mobile phone chargers.

Could you also convert all of the 1973 stock trains into an air-conditioned maximum speed 78 km/hours (48 MPH) re-refurbished and make it into a 8 cars per unit if that will be alright, and also extend all of the Piccadilly train stations to make more space for all of the extended 8 car per unit 1973 stock air condition trains and can you also build another Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive Companies and can they order Every 37 Octagon and Every 17 Hexagon shape LNER diagram unique small no.13 and unique small no.11 Boilers from those Countries such as Greece, Italy, Poland, and Sweden, can they make Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive speeds by up to 142MPH so you can try and test it on the Original Mainline so it will be much more safer for the Passengers to enjoy the 142MPH speed Limit only for HS2 and Channel Tunnel mainline services, if they needed 16 Carriages Per units, can they use those class 55’s, class 44’s, class 40’s and class 43HST Diesel Locomotive’s right at the Back of those 18 Carriages Per Units so they can take over at the Back to let those Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s have a rest for those interesting Journeys Please!!!!!!!, oh can you make all of those Coal Boxes’s 17 Tonnes for all of those 142MPH Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s so the Companies will Understand us PASSENGER’S!! so please make sure that the Builders can do as they are told!!!!!
