Never heard of them? Me neither still last year. That's cause our only classic rock station plays maybe 50 bands songs over and over and over again and won't let anybody else in. I wish the best dream I had would start a radio station and play all these L.P.'s you've sent me. I would listen all day! Great discoveries! It's been fun! What great talent in the late 60's and 70's! Thanks! Keep em coming!
Yeah, licensing is pretty expensive. For the stations it's safe to work with majors and pay stupid money for music they think people like (but don't know any other). They don't gamble or experiment. Gladly there are exceptions as well but this channel is supreme entertainment!
And over and over and over again and again. Effin bailed from major rock stations in 79.
Radio Nova is the Classic Rock Station(CRS) here in lreland, and it's the same rigid playlist with plenty of 80s pop interspersed, actually very rare to hear songs from the 60s and 70s been played🙄! It started off OK back in 2010, but has deteriorated ever since, they have been captured by the accountants looking for a broader market(numbers) and the niche markets the advertisers are fond of, hence the music is diluted and it is quiet jarring to listen too.👂🤪Add in their constant adverts stating how cool they are and there willingness to play off track songs, which is ALL false advertising, it isn't good fot the blood pressure😳!
Marc Riley BBC 6 Music does a fine job of playing an incredible wide range of music. Including Peel Sessions. Yes I occasionally write in asking for Frumpy !
Actually must admit first heard Frumpy around 2008 via Pandora. Was listening to Hawkwind Radio and Frumpy popped up.
If Inga was from England or North America, she would have been a massive star like Joplin. Incredible voice. Great band too.
I'm a new member of the Cult of Frumpy. Loving this.
Welcome aboard.
@@neveniusvondubowatz7705 Room for another one?
Think about the bands that were around. 1970-72. This lead guitarist, Rainer Baumann is smokin' EVERY geetar god of the time. Keyboardist, Jean-Jacques Kravitz does, too. They are melodic, not using any gimmicky lead playing, like fast, repitious arpeggios to wow an' fluff. They are real musicians. Carsten Bohn is a fine drummer. The rest of the band, too. The Bach riff is a wink to us with a music background.
I wonder if the well known musicians at the time were aware of these folks? As an American, I assume Europeans had regional, multi-country knowledge of bands, and muscians of muscians. We had two very different systems.
Europe kicked our asses for the number of great muscians and groups.
Never heard of them until now. Great blues prog rock! They should have been famous worldwide.

I was looking for this album 50 yrs ago, and here it is. Thank you, thank you love ya for it 😊😊
Inga Rumpf
Singer from hamburg germany
Sister of my friends wife
Cool lady and great voice
Later she had inga rumpf band
After frumpy
I’m pissed I’m 62, stuck in the 70’s, and just found out about Frumpy a year ago! Love em in 2021 though! 👍🏻 Rock on 🔥💨 🌸 🌈 ✌🏻
I'm 62 also, but I listened to Frumpy, CAN, Grobschnitt, Ton Steine Scherben, Embryo, Nektar and Eloy when I was young. Probably because I'm German.
There's lots of music out there to be discovered, and not only German. Ever heard of Dorando?
I'm pissed too though I'm only 57. Why they didn't play it on the radio in Poland? Because of world war?
@@akunka5935 No, only for the reason, you not aducated about your own country ;-)
This was my first LP . I bought it 1972 and I was 13 years old
¡Dichoso!
Hi i was 16 and i think that this Tunes are never died
@Jonathan Still This is so true. Retweet!
Likewise. And the "Na, wie isses?" stuck with me for half a century.
Hell yeah! Inga had more rock n roll in her soul than 99 from 100 of her male contemporaries. And don't say "Janis." Inga had her very own voice.
She definitely was able to be compared with Janis. This girl was totally overlooked.
Yes I was lucky enough to have met a german lad on the Serpentine while on a school trip! He sent me Frumpy 2 at the age of 15. Or I would have missed out too. Listening to this remarkably complex and highly together band reminds me how lucky I was to have had this musical influence. It's now in my DNA!!!
This is like FRUMPY meets
10 YEARS AFTER and DEEP PURPLE !!
ROCK ON 🎸🔊 🤘🤘🤘
Frumpy,s self entitled debut was brought back from Germany for me in '72 . Loved it ." Frumpy 2 "was even better and the "live " album was the icing on the cake . Also keyboard player solo album "Kravetz "which also featured all of Frumpy was a fine album . All worth checking out for lovers of heavy rock , long tracks and extended keyboard and guitar solos . Plus the great vocals of lnga Rumpf a really underated front woman and singer .
Inga Rumpf 🏆🙏🌻if she sings
" how a gypsy was born" I cry... 😢
Man what a soulpower in her vocals,Inga rocks !!!

I'm amazed that Frumpy weren't HUGE! I love this band.

I kept going because I heard a song called keep on going
Got this double live in mint condition. 2 LP´s but only 7 songs! That´s how it should be.
When one thinks of great female singers who fronted bands in the late sixties to early 70s, Grace Slick and Janis Joplin immediately cone to mind. They are the obvious choices. However, the greatest talent was a mind-blowing, soulful alto with silken hair the color of the setting sun. She plied her trade in West Germany with a voice that could’ve been plucked from some backwater whiskey joint in the Mississippi Delta. Hers was the first and last name of blue-eyed soul. Inga Rumpf. Once you hear her, there’s little more to be said.
Never heard of her but once you do you won't forget
Look she is/was great. One of the best of the era, but no way in HIGHEST HELL was she better than Janis. The band maybe been better, evidenced intensely in the 2nd half of How the Gypsy Was Born.....but as a singer, again great no doubt fully soulful and unique...but ..Janis was the best..
Siren of the high C
Damn Straight.. The German vocalist kills!!! And I’d match her with the Best Delta Blues .. Mamma Thornton to “ what you got?” Female vocalist contender.. anywhere. SOUL....sista supremo!!!
... “ Honey, you done up there with the music already? Why don’t cha come on down..”
Inga Rumpf was smokin' hot... and that husky voice!
Sometimes you just have to wonder how some bands like Frumpy didn't get more recognition than they did... it baffles me....
The industry controls who makes it
She was a lot in german radio in70
And had good success
Good old germany. One of the real good german bands...😎
Frumpy followed by Rammstein lol
Hammond & Inga. The perfect match.
And must say, the band are as wild and in-the-moment as Inga is.
Not to forget Rainer Baumann on guitar
She is a great singer.
grandissima

It’s shocking that I have been listening to rock for over 40 years and have never heard of this band. Thank you, YT algorithm.
ditto.
Make two so many bands in the gold time of rock !now every one its looking at all .
If you're from America like I am that's why.... many bands that were part of what was called the "Krautrock" scene got virtually no airplay at all from American radio stations ... Bands such as Frumpy Eloy Birth Control Jane etc... were completely shut out of the American rock music market.... it's unfortunate because these bands were very talented & deserved to reach the American audience...
Reality is one of the best albums I have.
Thank you YT algorithm. Excellent band all the way around and totally outside my awareness until tonight. Once I get back to the studio (volunteer public radio host) when the COVID restrictions lift, Frumpy will be getting some airplay.
Good, please play Rory Gallagher for the people too.Thank you
🤘👹👹🖤🖤👹👹🖤🖤👹👹🖤🖤👹👹🖤🖤👹👹🤘Doskonały rewelacyjny świetny potęga siła moc zajebisty koncertowy album pełen wspaniałego grania rocowej muzy a solo na bębnach mistrzostwo świata petarda ogień super super super.
Once upon a time, DJs could pick their own damn music. Now they play to the "lowest common denominator" - the music that the largest amount of people enjoy. Anybody remember Beaker Street, KAAY AM, out of little Rock, Arkansas? Once the local stations went off the air, we could here it all the way up here in Wisconsin. First underground rock station ever. 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. and where I first learned what "deep cuts" meant. Remember hearing the Doors' "When the Musics's Over" for the first time and being totally blown away. Still my favorite Doors song.
i feel we all will make a community in the comments after heating this more times, because one has to just hear it again to perceive how singular all is. THe keyboard player masters his solos completely, a wide head. The live mix is awesome and clean , the energy is live and fresh as well. What a night!
The rhythms strike me right away as very enticing, slinky, grOOvin' and ALIVE!! My babe was born in 1972 in Norge, so it peaked my curiosity to find out more about a band I'd never heard of before, and I am a big classic rock fan... This is great! I'd rather listen to this than Big Brother and the Holding Company any day... Will have to check this out again later 🎶🌌🌎🙌
@@charlesbogle6544 amazing how much remains to discover
Yes indeed! Joplin hung everything on her growly scream. She was a one trick pony. It was like in every song she could tell they never had juice (creativity and musicianship) to make a song work. So she'd do her wail and the audience would buy it up.
Frumpy's got levels an' levels of talent and musicianship. I was 15 in 1970. Glad that 50 years later Frumpy found me. These guys are the real thang!
Ya think of all the junky albums ya bought over the years, and finding these guys almost makes up for it. The reasons for obscurity are many. It truely is sad that we didn't know the individuals in this great band. The further I get into the album, the more impressed I am. There are NO KLINKERS, none on this disc. Obscure bands usually get a " that's kinda interestin' nod". And have one exceptable tune. This is an incredible album!
Been lookin round all this early 70s music its pretty hit & miss but God Dammit this 1st tune is doin it so far so good. i was born in 66 so ive heard my fair share of good tunes. gonna save this.. That said, Her voice almost sounds horn like, i'm diggin it..

Thanks for the post. I love Frumpy! Frumpy mantém a chama viva. Thanks!
in those days before internet, never see any album in import record stores, or a mention in rock or music magazines,at least here in Buenos Aires ,(and i read everything),sad not discover this in their time and see that not all was "kraut-rock" in 70's Germany. Happy ,anyway, right now ! thanks

Немецкий DP 70х👏👏👏👍👍👍 Inga!!!!
Tight band Jazz/Rock/Progressive. I was auf Deutschland in 70s. All I ever heard was Udo Lindenberg. Pop. I saw Bad Company, Tull, and Lynard Skynard before the crash. I have since discovered many good German bands. Out of Focus is my favorite, but Thirsty Moon, Lily (Monsun), Virus, GAA, Elfenbein, and Epitaph were excellent then and current bands All Them Witches and Colour Haze certainly attention. Thanks Deutschland and also TheBestDream.

Found this album in an antique shop in Spencer , IN. about 20 years ago. The gentleman that owned the shop had brought some records over from Germany where he DJ'd. A few other gems in there, as well.
What a feeling beautiful ❤️❤️ ❤️❤️ ❤️❤️ .
never heard of them until a few days ago this recording is absolutely awesome ive listened to it multiple times the past few days
Frumpy was one of the most promissing German bands of the 70s, which unfortunatly had a very early ending after only three studio albums and this live one, after two years and a half active. The band arose in about 1970 in Hamburg out of City Preachers folk community by four musicians who managed to achieve a good reputation very quickly not only in Germany but also in several other European countries. The vocalist Inga Rumpf was quickly recognized as Germany's queen of rock.
This was the last album released before their reunion about 20 years later, and documents the band on its peak. The only disadvantage of this album is the sound quality which lets a lot to be desired, something very common amongst live albums back then. Except this, there's nothing to complain of.
