  • I purchased two tables for my sewing space. I needed one to lift for projector sewing, but also big enough for cutting my fabrics. Only one was even close enough to fitting the bill. Find out which, and why!

    I recently bought a Husky brand table that is height adjustable (via a hand crank that removes for easy storage. I bought it from Home Depot for about $230. It isn't 36" deep, but it's on a very sturdy frame and it has locking wheels. This table is 59" long by 24" deep, but for a little more money, it comes in a 72" length (not sure if the depth is different) but if it is deeper, I'm buying it when it's in stock! Best of all, its already put together by Homd Depot (for free) and all I had to do was pull it out of my SUV) and roll it in my house. Great buy and I'm very happy with it's performance! I have a really heavy sewing machine (35 lbs) and there's no shaking whatsoever!
    Thanks for sharing other options! I totally love your sense of humor and I feel you are keeping it real! Subscribe ing today and glad I found ya!!!

    I love my Sullivan table but I bought it at least 10 years ago for $69, and it is sturdy and stays up along a wall in my sewing room. I use it for cutting and pin basting quilts. Along the other wall, I have a large Husky brand garage bench ($249) from Home Depot that is height adjustable. I keep two sewing machines and my serger on it and can sew with all three at one time if I need to. Usually I push the machines I don’t need to the back of the bench.

    Only stands to reason that something you pay $260 for is going to be better than one you pay $100 for. Companies like Joann always up the price of many items so they can look good offering “half off” deals. But, I am happy you found a table that suits your space - it’s always a challenge.

    If you’re close to an Ikea, I highly recommend the Norden table. It’s a Gateleg table like the first one you showed. It also has 6 very deep drawers for storage. I’m also on carpet and put furniture mover’s under my legs so I can easily shift all my sewing furniture. I have my two machines set up on mine and it’s been great for sewing. It’s definitely large enough to cut on but I have a separate item I use as cutting and work table. Unfortunately the prices of everything in Ikea is way up, but I still think the furniture is worth even the inflated price. It’s so hard to find good sewing furniture for smaller rooms on a budget. I hope the adjustable desk works out for you. Congratulations on your new home!

    • @JosyJo14
      @JosyJo14 Před 3 lety +1

      Hey there Andrea,I’ve also seen a fold out and down table idea, if you have a definitive spot you can always put a hinged table along a wall,therefore you have the option of a fold down, you can have an option of a longer or wider table as long as the wall are stable (screwing in the framework behind the drywall) you can also ad extra fold down legs for stability. Cheers from Australia

    Good video. I'd been using a large dining room table in my teeny apartment living room that took up half my living room. That first table you showed was the one I was going to get! Thanks for the heads up. I wound up choosing a little sewing cabinet from Amazon. Small, cheap, and cute. My apartment has an island that separates the kitchen, so that will have to suffice as my cutting space. I just bought this table, and opened it, and started to put it together. When I watched your video I thought oh no I made a big mistake. They must of made a change because I have support for the corners. I also tightened all of my screws with the alan wrench and held it with a pair of players to tightened them really well. My table is very study and I love it. Maybe you should call the company and see if those little supports are something extra and if they would send them to you. A table is no good if it isn't sturdy.

I purchased it from my local sewing shop. It was expensive ($500) but came with a free cutting mat to cover the entire surface (37”x49”) and has height adjustment (32-38”). It helps to put the item into amazon because they usually have more reviews than the store's website. also you can use your web search and put reviews at the end of the item to see the ones from different sources. My hubby didn't do this for 2 items (gaming chair and corner desk.) The gaming chair had plastic wheels and they started breaking. He was still under warranty and they gave him 10 new ones and two are left. Then he bought a corner computer desk. It had the worlds worst instructions. I had pictures but no words explaining the pictures. I swear it took us 2 days to get it put together, but then realized that somethings weren't facing correctly. Had to take it apart and put it back together. One of the reviews compared it to Ikea furniture instructions. Always read the good, the bad, and the ugly reviews.

    I am sorry you had such a bad experience with the Hobby Table. It is really so bad that they should just pull it off the market. However, if you are interested in getting a larger table at a later date, I suggest you try the Sullivan's Adjustable Home Hobby Table (it has shelves under the center panel, sturdier tubing & better casters than the original one you bought). It is on sale very often & I have been using mine for over 6 years & it is still sturdy and a great cutting table. I think it might help the sturdiness if items are put on the shelves under the center section, but it's a great table nonetheless. The shelves add more storage area & I store bolts of fabric on them to get them out of the way.

    I have been wanting a large, adjustable height cutting table for awhile. Saw the perfect on while at the Paduch Quilt show. 36" wide and has two removable leaves so size changes from 36" (?) to 72". Storage for extras or the leaves inside the table. Magnetic shelves to hold pins, scissors, cups, etc. But sale price was $3800, free shipping. OUCH. I think I will keep looking. Amazon sells the frame that you can put your own top on for a reasonable price. Or maybe it was Ikea.

    I’m still angry all these years later. House of Fabric and Fabricland used to be excellent sewing stores. JoAnn’s original name was Discount Fabrics (and lived down to its name). The first two stores had wonderful merchandise including silk, linen, and beautiful wools. Fabricland bought out House of Fabrics, then within a year or so, Discount Fabrics changed its name to JoAnns then bought out Fabricland, then turned itself into a craft store like Michael’s with less than half the store carrying fabric, and not the quality stuff either. In my town, we went from having 4 fabric stores (2 Fabriclands) 3 of which had excellent selection to only the renamed Discount Fabrics which had changed into a craft store, and a quilting store. OK, rant over. No wonder they carry low quality sewing tables. Sewing quality isn’t in its heritage.

      Hmmm... let me start by saying I am not a major fan of Joann's. Circa 1982... We also used to have Minnesota Fabrics chain and several locally owned fabric stores in addition to Joann's. Its a Cleveland area company founded in 1943. I actually worked in one briefly and it sold fabric, sewing supplies and sewing machines. Craft supplies came along much later. I am thinking maybe your stores were bought out by Joann's at some point as it was expanding to the corporate mess that it currently is.... We have only had Hob Lob near me for about 2 years. Both are a half hr drive from me. Sadly Joann's and Walmart are the only nearby options.

      If you look up Joanns on Wikipedia, it says the original name was The Fabric Shop in 1943. They renamed it Jo-Ann's in 1963. Also tells of the changes it made as a corporation over the years.

      It could be that JoAnn’s bought out Discount Fabrics first, but it was the company that owned the previous Discount Fabrics that tolled the death knoll for good fabrics in Bellingham, Washington. Still doesn’t make me 😊

      @@marciayingling7983 Oh wow! I should look this up. I feel like this is a worth while history lesson. Hmmmmmm. Now, I can’t say Joann is a low grade store. I love that store, and I like to walk around looking at all the fun new things with my daughter. I occasionally have a fun time in their fabric section as well. I just had what I feel was an off putting experience with the table. Overall Joann is still one of my favorite places to peruse.

    I am a male looking too set up an entire room for my wife who has been in the fashion industry and can sew however I want to surprise her with a decent table. Is the inserts for machine better than just placing the machine on top like she did for years and we are in our sixties? I have been shocked what the manufacturers are charging for MDF tables and cheap construction I have to get a closed cabinet with a lift . Who wants all that dust and dirt on it before they sew got any ideas I do store the Viking in a Milwaukee wheel tool box for now
