    I thought I was going crazy being the only person that thought the printing wasn't great. I get what you're saying about the price, but last year image published a few magazine sized comics in full color for the same price, and it wasn't a premier launch like this was, so I don't know if I can get behind the "let it go since its so cheap" mentality on this one, though I would for other things. Either way, I liked the stories a lot, but am a bit disappointed. I'll be getting the rest of this years issues for sure though and hopefully it gets better as time goes on.
    Jim Zub and Pat Zircher said on twitter that the series can expand from the planned 6 issues assuming it sells well enough to warrant it, which I think it will. But we shall see. Thanks for another great video!

      What magazine did Image put out? That sounds interesting.
      Since most regular comics are four or five dollars a pop for 20 pages, I do consider 80 pages for seven dollars to be a really good deal.

      @@ToddLuck They put out The Forged, which is a magazine sized comic. It has 6 issues so far and the third arc starts in April, its a Sci-Fi story, think Halo + Dune + Female Space Marines. It's pretty cool.

    You pretty much hit the nail on the head on this review. Couldn't have put it better myself. Overall, a more than solid first issue with what are hopefully just growing pains. Zircher absolutely nailed it on art and story with Solomon Kane, couldn't have asked for better.

    THIS is the first review I've seen that seems to be to be from someone thats owned read and loved the original SSOC.. you can be critical and not trolling.. I agree %100percent with your concerns with the print quality itself and hope the paper or ink can be tweaked for better reproduction.
    I have this 5/5 on kindle review but physical could use improvement.

      I was assuming it probably wouldn’t be collected in trade paperback but you never know. I would definitely recommend getting the individual issues if you’re interested in it.

    I would never want to see a real horse hurt, but i think it makes it more realistic. I warrior on a horse has a great advantage over some one on foot. Attacking the horse would be a legit strategy, in order to survive the fight. Conan also took out a horse in the first movie. To be honest tamed horses live in human society and bad stuff happens. Horses in the wild i am sure also don't have a easy life.

    Would love it if Solomon Kane had an antagonist called Multimon Adam.

    I like the texture on the page that isn't just solid black. I suspect that we're looking at the difference of digital art that is transferred to the page vs traditional inking. Anyway, thanks for doing this review, I wasn't really even aware that this had been released, and I'm all about it!

      Glad you found out about the issue! Having traditionally inked comic pages myself and worked at a print publication for years, I’m very confident that the texture is from the printing.

    Printing is atrocious. Cover ink comes off on your hand fast.

    Man, SSOC returns after 30 freakin' years and all we can do is go on about how the printing is imperfect? Not one word about the quality/entertainment value of the Conan yarn that takes up 80% of the mag? I never thought I'd see SSOC make a comeback.
    And, seriously, what are the odds of an oversize, black and white, utterly retro magazine crammed with old school, R-rated sword and sorcery action reaching a big enough audience to survive these days? Yeah, it's imperfect, but I was awful goddam glad to see it all the same.

    • @ToddLuck
      @ToddLuck  Před 4 měsíci

      I talked about the quality of it, and that it was exciting that it was back 🤷‍♂️

      Aw man. You spent more time pointing out typos than you did discussing the plot of the Conan yarn. Way more time looking at what was wrong rather than what was, astonishingly enough, right and true to a dated, non-PC style of storytelling that has been extinct for three decades. I'm not trying to say you shouldn't point those flaws out, I'm just saying you were delivered a brand-new Ferrari and you're staring at a scratch on the hood. @@ToddLuck
