Nobody’s asking you for more than simply existing at this moment. No matter how crushed you feel, how close this looks like to your life crumbling apart, nobody’s asking you for more than just breathing. One breath at a time. It’ll get better, in time, with every breath.
If it’s all you can do, then it’s all you should do, and don’t let people make you feel useless. you’re probably so tired because you’ve been giving too much as it is. It’s ok to just sit and be sometimes.
I used to listen to this as a kid. I guess I thought it was catchy. I keep coming back to it as the years pass, and understanding it more and more as I get older. Something powerful about it.
I think it's a song for everyone suffering. There is a strong reference to abortion in the first verse, PTSD or mental illness in the second verse, and coping with suicidal thoughts in the last verse. This is one of those Masterpieces where everything makes sense and nothing makes sense. It's written and sung so beautifully and understandingly that we can apply it in basically all of life's ups and downs.
I hope there isn't a reference to abortion because that would be really dark. I don't really want to hear a song about baby murder. That being said I do actually think the line is about divorce
@@dustywhite6963 Not a baby, a fetus, and it's a matter of interpretation And sometimes you have to put the dark, painful parts of life into music, to be able to proces them emotionally. Damn! Everytime I listen to this song I love it even more. The cadence of Anna's voice, the message in her lyrics and the harmony are truly outstanding. People. They found it on Grey's. You're not better than them. And think of this..the people on here saying they found it on Grey's, what version are they commenting on? This. They have listened to this. Just because they found it on Grey's means nothing. Be happy that more people are being introduced to the song. Goodness.
You know I never understood that, at least they are given credit where they first heard it doesn't matter where or when just that the song is awesome and deserves much support! Totally agree with you!
i want to see comments about the song, i dont want to see 90% of the comments being Greys Anatomy. Honestly couldnt care less about where u heard it, what year you're watching in, or where your from just want to see a pure comments section on the song not all this other bs
AMEN to that! does it really matter where we find the song? i found it thanks to grey's, and i am happy about it.. maybe otherwise i would never have found it.. people really don't know what it is worth complaining about anymore...
One of my Modern dance teachers actually introduced me to this song and choreographed a short routine to it, and I immediately fell in love with both all at once 😊 I still remember it.
I remember this song being a staple of VH1 around 2005 when I used to stay up all night most of the time at my parent's house. But wow. This video has been here since 07? It was here when I was in the hospital? It was here when I moved a thousand miles? Got my first stable long term job? When we moved into our place together? It was here when I got married? Got divorced? Moved into my first place on my own? When the dog died? When I bought my house? It's been here this whole time? And I missed it? Crazy.
I listened to this song for the first time months and months ago and remember I didn’t like it. Last night it came up in my recommended again. One of my favorite songs now I didn’t like months ago, because my music taste is growing exponentially over the last year or so, so I figured I’d give it another shot. I don’t regret it at all. The chorus is actually quite boring for my taste, possibly if I were stressed or having an anxiety attack I’d need to hear to just breathe, but on any given day it’s not super impressive to me. And when a song lacks a big chorus, the rest of the song has to make up for it. And this sure did. She’s got incredible vocals and has amazing songwriting abilities, she tells an incredible story, and it feels like I’m there. She can match her vocals to the instrumentals and can really weave the lyrics and music together. And I love how her accent peeks through around 1:20. It gives it such a rustic and genuine feel that I love. And “life’s like an hourglass glued to the table?” Where does one even come up with that lyric? Wow! It’s such a great metaphor for life that blows me away.
i listen to this song when i need to cry and let out all of my steam this song hits so hard... it isn't funny it is so comforting i love it thank you anna
Anyone else find this song through a Facebook quiz years ago? Like between 5 and 10 years ago I got this as a result for a quiz that was called something like "what song do you need to hear right now" and ever since then , any time it's 2 am this shit comes back to me. I don't think a song has ever stuck with me that long when I only heard it a few times. Anyway I doubt anyone will see this comment but I wanted to express how I feel, because life's so surreal.

Grace Powell I can imagine that comment being spoken by your profile picture.
i want to see comments about the song, i dont want to see 90% of the comments being Greys Anatomy. Honestly couldnt care less about where u heard it, what year you're watching in, or where your from just want to see a pure comments section on the song not all this other bs
Yes thank you Jesus
AMEN to that! does it really matter where we find the song? i found it thanks to grey's, and i am happy about it.. maybe otherwise i would never have found it.. people really don't know what it is worth complaining about anymore...
"Hypocrites we are all here for the very same reason"
Cause you can't jump the track were like cars on a cable. Life's like an hourglass glued to the table

One of my favorite songs. It touches my heart. What a beautiful voice.
Thank you, Little Grey!
That's why I came haha
One of my Modern dance teachers actually introduced me to this song and choreographed a short routine to it, and I immediately fell in love with both all at once 😊 I still remember it.
'But, my God it's so beautiful when the boy smiles' 💙💙💙
I remember this song being a staple of VH1 around 2005 when I used to stay up all night most of the time at my parent's house. But wow. This video has been here since 07? It was here when I was in the hospital? It was here when I moved a thousand miles? Got my first stable long term job? When we moved into our place together? It was here when I got married? Got divorced? Moved into my first place on my own? When the dog died? When I bought my house? It's been here this whole time? And I missed it? Crazy.
my boyfriend plays this everytime we are having a hard time or anything, this song makes me cry but it helps me and I love it so much.
Definitely here because of Grey's Anatomy... I'm still on the episode, paused it as I type this, because this episode is fucking stressful.

2019...still breathing! 🙌🏾
Now 2020... still breathing!
Now 2021
If this song comes on the radio... I don’t care if it’s been 3 years or 8 years or more since I’ve heard it - I know the lyrics by heart - every word
I've been thinking about this song a lot today (I don't know why), so it's good to hear it.
It’s 2020 and I still love this song 💕🥰
