The person singing, is telling a new love interest, that their girlfriend has basically had enough of them and is crying about it (this is his ham fisted way of telling her that he’s basically single) 😂 so in this cover, Trixie hasn’t changed anything lyrically nor situationally, therefore the idea that it’s a “pals” thing rather than an actual romantic girlfriend, doesn’t really make sense in the context of the song ☺️
