The machine apocalypse would not be the end of life and I can prove it (I think)

  • Honestly I just need to get these ideas out there, it's the only way I can stop thinking about them

FINALLY!!!!! this is whaFINALLY!!!!! This is what we've been talking about. Ok, strap in for a long comment.
Firstly, life being an acttractor is something I strongly agree strongly with, but I don't think it is the only one. As in chaos theory, the results are unpredictable because of the impossibility or impracticality of measuring the starting variables, but conditions and situations do still matter, for example, in a simulation of "'the swing" it is hard to predict how it will swing, but it probably wouldn't fall off into the void or light on fire because those things aren't in the simulations.
Life can be a common example of a self-duplicating thing that tries to continue to exist. This might be because the universe favors systems that lead to more entropy, and such traits are in the nature of a system that tries to continue to exist. Another trend could be, for example, that a stable and unchanging logic system will become faulty as things change in time, or one that extends on the original idea, which will mean that life exists to aid in the trend of the universe, which in this case means the decay of the universe. But those are just ideas, and I'm getting off track.
Read more of Jeremy England's theory on this if you have time; it's really interesting: www.quantamagazine.org/a-new-thermodynamics-theory-of-the-origin-of-life-20140122/
Now going back to MTG, I don't think the phyrexian ever had anything against fleshy life. The whole idea of phyrexia was to guide a whole ecosystem or biosphere to perfect harmony so that every goal and agent could contribute and gain from each other; the machine was just the means that Yawgmoth had the ability (thought he had) of doing this; but in the short stories, infighting, rebellion, and the new phyrexia's rather disharmonious state are displayed, which leads me to think of two possible explanations of what is happening.
Either harmony in a "perfect ecosystem" doesn't look like typical harmony or the Phyrexian method is currently insufficient; I think it's both.
The cause of this, I think, is the programming of the glissening oil, as it is designed to serve Yawgmoth, which now leads to Phyrexia looking for leadership in his absence.
Before I go into why thats a problem, "how" I think it can be potentially solved let me just point out I understand the phyrexian hive mind through the oil more of an subconcious/ instinctual thing since they display very high amount of individualist behaviors.
As the goal is to have a "perfect ecosystem" we're starting off in the right place, with a hivemind so that all the organisms will see themselves and each other as one, thereby eliminating competition, but then Yawgmoth messed it up by making them serve him. Seeing a fixed point in the system to be always more important and to let it make decisions over the system in it own interest through its own judgment with less information than the oil will have (as the collective subconcious of all Phyrexians), will/did proof worse for all in the long run.
The solution to this and more is to make the oil be able to evolve in the full sense of the word (they have sci-fi fantasy tech so give me a little leway), then it will start to see every unit of life equally important, maybe even smaller units and shift the importance of things depending on the situation, have a adaptible society structure that is actually good for them, vareing amount of individuality as required, etc etc etc. until they intergrate them selfs into the very fabric of reality and then dublicate themselves by dublicating that, but at that point the machenics of life might have changed strategy who knows, I don't know how a magical multiversal intelligence running on the subconcious of every being thinks, must be intense!
Personally I think Phyrexia 2.0(or really 3.0) will still keep individualism for some as the same for intelligence, sapience, conciousness, flesh, the potential of a planeswalker's spark, etc etc etc as the advantage of life is in diversity and adaptability. But again, after Yawgmoth died, they did expand through the color pie, so maybe the oil somehow evolves.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for helping me write a new school of magic (that influences attractor in chaos theory), a new faction ("improved" Phyrexia), and my new strange ttrpg campaign, and thank you all for listening to my mad ramblings.

I just looked at the Dominus cards, and now my brain is doing it again, so now I have to decide between mechanically implementing them into my TTRPG game or dissecting them to write a story arc, character, and/or faction according to them. Obviously, I chose yes.

Here's the thing. Making a video of that quality is very time consuming, and I need money, so I have to focus on the things that pay best, like writing episodes for PBS Space Time
That said I do work on the script when I have some time
