    Lists, tires and tools -- can I get a witness, ha , one here! all of it is ON THE MONEY. Now you have me excited for next spring already to arrive. One thing to all fellow RV Peeps,, if you have the rubber roof protectant in gallon ,you have the best fluid at your disposal already to use on tires. It outperforms all the other shelf stuff for UV blocker and longevity. Shake pour into cup, brush it on or sponge, refill the spray bottle you have, can skip the conditioner. Thanks Ross for power packed and fun to watch content.

    If you haven’t seen the Black Tank Masterclass video, watch it !! Exceptional. Rod, we’ve been doing the 5 gal bucket flush down the toilet since that video. We run the black tank flush three times, then do two 5 gal buckets of water down toilet. We get “stuff” out of the tank even after the black tank flushes when using the 5 gal bucket method afterward. Thank you for that tip my friend…!!!

    • @RVTIPSANDTRAVELS
      @RVTIPSANDTRAVELS  Před rokem +4

      I'd say its not accurate at all. Most people dont know that bleach should never be used in a black tank because it kills bacteria used to break down solid waste in treatment chemicals. They also may not know which chemicals to use, or want advice from someone who has used multiple treatments and want to get an opinion on which one works best. Nobody knows these things until they learn. People come to CZcams to learn. Furthermore, if you don't like our videos, don't watch. Simple logic. Put on your big boy pants and move on to another channel. But if you're going to come here to insult me or my viewers you really need to come with some practical, scientific argument other than "if you need a video to take care of ur black tank you shouldn’t own a rv of any kind!" (your words exactly).

    During hot weather I travel often with the roof vent open with no problem with outside smell inside the coach. We have a Geo Pro 19FBS with the vent at the rear of the rig and it comes with the Max Air vent cover, so perhaps that helps keep smells out of the rig. The biggest reason I do this is to help keep the temperature down in the rig.

    Really good video on tips and tricks. Your videos have a great style and flow without a lot of the useless chit chat of many. They are helping me prepare for next journeys in my second travel trailer. One note on the segment on the particle filter near the water pump, be sure to get any water out of it before freezing temps. I blow the water out of my system and learned the hard way when water froze there and cracked the plastic cover. . And you can't just buy the cap Cheers.

    One thing I purchased many years ago and used with my last 3 RVs and the current one is a carport sized for an RV. It’s amazing the protection it gives from the elements and when trading for a newer model, the dealerships were always amazed at the new like condition. I believe it’s the best RV investment I have ever made.

    I use dollar store strong and soft pack of 4 TP that is septic safe for home and RV. I clean my water pump filter every year when I'm winterizing since I'm there anyway. great question... I am actually going to create a tire care video next year, but I really need to talk to a few tire experts before I even think about filming. However, from what I've heard thus far, they should be kept on a firm, dry surface. Youll notice in the video they are on wooden blocks off the grass. My last set of tires lasted 5 years, and I only replaced them because of the age. Nothing was wrong with them as they only had 6000 miles on them. Stay tuned, in the meantime when I find a tire expert that I trust I will let you know.

    You mentioned using septic safe toilet paper, I found that if you look at the Rv toilet paper it says rapid dissolving and costs twice as much for fewer roles. There are a few brands that will say quick/ rapid dissolving and some also say septic safe. So I just look for rapid dissolving and/or septic safe and I’m good. One thing you NEVER want to do (even though is says that it is septic safe) is use/put the baby wipes in your black tank. Take it from me not a good idea even if it says so, cost me around 400 dollars to learn that one, when I first started rving, cause I had to have my blank tank vacuumed out

    What you really want to get is a bidet. cut the pex line to your toiilet.. insert a T. Then put a bidet on your RV toilet. use more water but your black tank will have about ZERO toilet paper in it. I did it within 2 weeks of owning my first camper. I regret nothing. Yes it fits on the standard toilet KZ puts in all their campers. I should make a video. None of them were perfect and it was simple to do once I figured out Pex tubing and how neat that stuff is. @stanjuan1178 Před rokem

    There are lots of videos out there. I'd say virtually every single one is well intentioned. Further, Id say that most of them contain nuggets of good information. I'm constantly trolling RV videos in an ongoing search for things I didn't previously know.
    While "Proper" maintenance will save you money in the long run and preserve the useful life of your RV, the question for me is; what is "Proper" maintenance. I have traveled the path from new RV'er to seasoned RV'er over 8 years. I don't know it all. I won't claim that even on my death bed. But one dosen't do anything for 8 years and not learn anything. For me, "Proper" maintenance includes finding some sort of balance. Early on, I tried to apply all of these "Tips and Tricks" I see in these videos. One could endlessly spend time and significant sums of money niggeling with their RV. RVing isn't cheap under the best of conditions. But one can spend gobs of money "Protecting" their RV. Early on, I found myself asking when do we actually get to ENJOY the damn thing?
    There is an idea of diminishing returns. I'll give you one example. One "Should" wash at a bare minimum, the roof once a year and apply a TPO protectant, not to mention check the roof sealant. I did that. The first year I washed my roof 4 times in 6 months. And then I realized, for all the "Good" it was doing me, I could wash the roof every time the RV leaves the driveway. Washing the roof is not easy, and even though it's a "Walkable" roof, I cringe every single time I put my 300 lbs on the roof. And that protectant stuff you're supposed to put on once a year? That stuff is EXSPENSIVE. After the first two years, I do a quick a quick clean up on the roof once a year. I don't scrub it. I clean it up. Spend maybe ten minutes tops. As far as the sealant goes, Every other year I pay the shop to check the roof and other various wear parts and have them do maintenance if they find anything sketchy. I have them do the protectant stuff every third year.
    Why am I making this long post. I could write a book on RV maintenance. A lot of this stuff is going to depend heavily on your personal circumstances and how much the RV gets used. Some should do more, some could get away with doing a lot less. The point is this. There are lots of videos telling you what you should do. I have yet to run into one that will tell you that you can overkill the whole maintenance thing. Much like the roof of my camper, You don't need to wash the roof every time you take it out or spend hundreds of dollars each year on protectants. I pay to store my RV 6 months of the year in a weather tight building. I think keeping the snow and Ice and wind and sun off it 6 months of the year is worth more than spending hours of labor and hundreds of dollars applying protectant to the roof. One MUST do maintenance of some kind. But one dosen't have to overkill everything. There is power in knowledge. I think people do a lot of overkill because they are scared of what they don't really know or understand. Some RV's need more PM than others. Low end RVs tend to be made with cheaper materials. Think the rubber seals in a low end RV slide are exactly the same as the seals used in mid and high end RVs? lots of people would say yes they are. All I can tell you is that my experience has been that my 8 year old RV seals are still good and I only put protectant on them once a year. I've seen the seals on lower end RV's disintegrate in a couple years. One has to tailor the PM regimen to the RV they have and to the circumstances. Do you store your RV outside year round? Do you live in Arizona or in Alaska? If you make RVing a Job, you're not going to have a lot of fun. In my opinion, you don't need seventy five lists. On a small Imagine 2150RB, the winterization process is as basic as it gets. Open the plug on the HWH. Open the low point plugs. Flip valves. Run some compressed air through the exterior water inlets/outlets. Plug low point drains. Run in antifreeze through all faucets. Done. Don't make a mountain out of a mole hill.
    My advice is to learn learn learn learn learn. Arm yourself with information. Arm yourself with all the information you can get. 8 years into our RV life, I'm still consuming information from videos and forums. And I'll be doing so 8 years from now. The more you understand about the fine details of how your RV is constructed, the better at maintenance you will get. And remember, you don't have to do ALL the maintenance yourself. It's worth it to pay a shop to do some of it. I personally think putting 300 lbs on my 2150RBs roof is harder on it than anything else. I budget about 600 dollars a year to spend at the Dealership for maintenance. I do a lot on 3 year rotations. Packing the bearings. Checking the breaks. Basic and extended roof maintenance. The stuff that's not pleasant, and takes up my time. Other things like slide seals and winterizing, I do myself. Lists can be useful. But my suggestion is to keep it simple. We always do a walk around before leaving the driveway or the campground. But I have a five point list I keep on the dash to remind me of the things we tend to over look when we are not paying full attention. Stabilizers up. Vents and windows closed. Chains, hitch pin, whip all connected. Doors closed and secured. Overlooking any of these things when you are not paying full attention can lead to particularly bad experiences. So I have one five point list placed in a spot where I can't miss it. And when I see it, it triggers me to make certain I've done those things. If you have 34 lists on your phone. I submit you're doing it wrong.
    Just my two cent rant.

    Hello, my 2008 Sunnybrook fifth wheel, 33ckts, has ball 7500 pound scissor jacks. They are not the lighter stabilizer jacks that companies have gone to in recent years. In my way of thinking, I like to have these heavy duty jacks down while my RV is in storage, in order to take the stress off of the frame. is my way of thinking correct? Or should I not even have these heavy stabilizer jacks engaged while my RV is in storage? Furthermore, the old Sunnybrook fifth wheels, we’re not built on I-Beams. They were built on a triple stacked 16 inch box frame under the main carriage of the fifth wheel. I have been pulling this fifth wheel since we purchased it new, in 2008, but I still pick up a tip now and then from your videos. Keep up the good work.

      @RVTIPSANDTRAVELS  Před 2 měsíci

      I think that you're way of thinking is good, and remember there is no negative affect of having the stablizers down at any point in time. I would however assume the weight of the trailer on the frame should be fine, especially while not moving. Considering these are meant to travel on horrible roads, the stress on the frame comes when you're driving, not parked. the only reason i mention this is in case of a tire losing air, then you are putting additional stress on the jacks. thanks for watching and commenting my friend.
