  • There are now more and more Kawasaki R211As coming into the New York City subway system taking over the A line! As a result, the very first Pullman Standard R46 assigned to that line has been removed and reassigned to either the N, Q, or W lines. This is done with a yard transfer, moving the 4-car R46 set numbered 5894-5897 from Pitkin Yard to Coney Island Yard. This may mark the end of an era and the start of another!
    This video was filmed on an iPhone 13 Pro Max in 4K at 60fps.

    This marks the beginning of the end for the R46. We might see more sets transferred from Pitkin to CIY over the next few weeks.

    If I may add, with 5894-5897 is now at Coney Island, the said yard itself has moved some R68s back to the D train, 2768-2775. Wonder if they'll move more soon to cover the loss that was at Concourse Yard.

    I was expecting the Pitkin R46s to happen to run on the N Q and W lines but it is true because more R211s are coming in to Pitkin so they transfer some R46s to Coney island Yard to increase the spare factor on the N Q and W lines.

    Note that 5894-5897 actually served the Q first before switching to the N.

    i loved the r46's and vivdly remember then being on the R line along with r160's being on the NQ until they got swapped man r46's always felt so much more smoother compared to the r68's

      I dislike the R68 as well. Weak motors, poor acceleration, stiff suspension, train jerks too much, uncomfortable. In 1988, a R68 failed to climb up the Manhattan Bridge. When braking, people get thrown forwards much more than any other train model, and especially when the brake is released, the train jerks everyone backwards. Train just feels heavy and clunky. Also, the PA system on many cars are shit. And the R68A, with its stupid delayed brakes (brakes take an entire second to apply so the operator has to brake earlier). Much prefer the R46 over the R68 and R68A.

      And the R160s on the N, Q, and W lines😍
      I grew up on the N line, I vividly remember them on there, as well as the R32s. Back then they ran with R160s since they first entered service until 2020 when the fleet swap happened. I want my R160 N Q W trains back :(

      @@railfanner-MaxPlati That's the reason why they have the R46S on the A C N W Q lines from the F R lines for the swapped the old fleets to the new fleets . After while you are definitely gonna see the R68AS R68S on the A C lines anymore because next year the A C lines is definitely getting CBTCS joining the E F R G lines for CBTCS.

    Maybe 6208-6258 might be in CIY soon. I used to hate having a train on the A or C with all A cars because vandals always liked breaking into the cabs and changing the side signs and kicking out the cab windows.

    I don't think any R46s have been officially retired yet, other than the ones involved in accidents. The reason for the transfer is CI Yard's low spare ratio, which is a problem when running very old equipment. They've regularly borrowed R160s from Jamaica Yard when they've been shorthanded. With more R211s in service, Pitkin doesn't need as many R46s, so it makes sense to transfer some of their's to CI.

  • @KingofGamingAndTrains456
    @KingofGamingAndTrains456 Před 2 měsíci +5

    2:36 I feel like the best performing R46’s from Pitkin will get sent to CIY to retire the worst performing R46’s in CIY, while the R211’s will directly replace the worst performing R46’s in Pitkin.

    I wish Pitkin would take care of the trains. The R211Ts looks so dirty already it's ridiculous. Why is it that Corona Yard is the only yard that truly takes care of their trains? Also, we got 15 R211s in service so far and 175 cars on MTA property.

    If more R46 from the Pitkin Yard go to the Coney Island Yard. Will they run for service on the B and D lines?

    • @fantherailsbc
      @fantherailsbc  Před 2 měsíci +4

      The D isn't based out of CIY, it's based out of Concourse Yard in the Bronx. The B is based out of CIY, but that only runs with R68s and R68As... so yeah no foam

    At this rate, I think the first R46 to retire would be around Q2 2024, around May if not late-April, which is next month… Providing if the R211s continue to be delivered consistently though…

      They might put some R46S on the B D trains just like the N W Q lines has the R68S R68AS and the R46S. We definitely don't know when the brand new R268/As gets here nether the R262/As for the iRT A devisin.

    @jfchonors8873 Před 2 měsíci

    What route do they take to move from Pitkin to CIY ?

    • @fantherailsbc
      @fantherailsbc  Před 2 měsíci

      They go via Fulton Street (A/C lines in Brooklyn) then via Culver (F/G in Brooklyn) to CIY. To be specific, Pitkin has direct access and is connected to the A/C tracks east of the Euclid Avenue station, so they head out there going west until Jay Street-MetroTech. There are a few switches north past that station, so they use those to turn around and head back south via the F. When they reach Avenue X, there is a diverging track south past that that leads into Coney Island and Avenue X Yards.

    Imma miss the 46s .. 2 questions tho . Y was the 46s from pitkin worse than CI that shows who's lazy bc I thought all train yards get the same treatment as to maintenance , and y not put them on the D line just for s$@#'s and giggles b4 they go . Wonder who's in charge of that ??

      Exactly 💯 percent right. We might see some R46S on the B D lines for a little while. Once the A C lines get CBTCs hooked up. Another thing to they are definitely gonna keep some R46S on the cut just like they did to the R32S. I'm just letting you know right now dogs .
