  • I mentioned in the video that everything in an APA-style paper is double-spaced. This is mostly correct; however, if you use tables in your paper, those may be single spaced.

      Hi, perem,
      They did! Just be careful: Citation generators are only as good as the writer's knowledge of APA style and the information that writer inputs. They are *never* something that can be relied upon to do things exactly right. Always be sure to check citations and references against APA-style guidelines before turning in your paper! Fortunately, the new updates have come with an updated style blog, and guidelines for in-text citation and references can be easily found on their website. For information on citations, check here: apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/citations
      For references, take a look here: apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references

      Hi, Daniela,
      Tables may appear in the text of the paper, close to the discussion of the information presented in them. You may also choose to place tables after the references. APA has a helpful online discussion of the subject here: apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/tables-figures/tables
      Table placement is addressed toward the bottom of that page :)

    Does the abstract have to fill in the whole page?

    • @MariquitaJ15
      @MariquitaJ15 Před 2 lety

      Hello! No, the abstract should be no more than 150-250 words, but that's a maximum count. I generally recommend to my students that they write 2 or three sentences for 2-3 pages, 4 or 5 for 4-5 pages, and for 6 or more pages, 7 or 8 sentences should be appropriate, but that many may not be needed. The abstract is defined as a "brief and comprehensive summary of the essay." Think of the synopsis on the back of a book or movie or for a show episode. You should only need a few sentences.

      It should appear on the course syllabus you received from your instructor. You can also look at your registration in your student portal: It should appear there with the class name. If neither of those is useful, take a look at your school or university's course catalogue or your course schedule :)

    • @hannahkauffman7677
      @hannahkauffman7677  Před 2 lety

      No additional lines appear between the references or between paragraphs. The hanging indent shows the reader where each new reference begins. APA does not include additional spaces between paragraphs because the first-line indent shows the reader where each new paragraph begins.

      Hi, Charles!
      Thanks for the note! Yes, several word processing programs come with APA templates built in; however, I have yet to find one that is completely without error. Using a template can certainly save a student some time, but he or she should be certain to check the details of that template to ensure they are correct. Especially in college, it is never wise to trust that anything pre-made--citations, formatting templates, etc.--is 100% correct, and instructors often (not always) expect them to be so. If a student is planning to enter a profession in which he or she will be publishing work, it is vital for that individual to ensure that he or she is very familiar with both small and major details!

    • @MariquitaJ15
      @MariquitaJ15 Před 2 lety

      Great questions! Working in a template often causes more difficulty than help. If folks don't know what the spacing requirements are, they may not realize that as information is added, some spacing needs to be deleted. It does not always translate well from computer to computer, and sometimes things don't get deleted or changed as necessary, such as things in title or class positions. If a student knows how to format something correctly independently, if they do choose a template later on, they will know what needs to be adjusted in order to do it correctly. Incidentally, using pre-made references is not especially useful, either, because if the reference has been made incorrectly, the student will not know what is wrong, so if points are deducted for incorrect references or formatting, the student will not know what to fix or change in future. Therefore, my goal is to present the necessary information for students to approach these assignments independently and correctly.
