Hey guys, I hope you like the video this week! Let me know if you would like me to make more content like this on sax technique etc. I'd love to hear your feedback :)
p.s. The background music in this video is from my original song "Isolation" recorded in 2017.

This is the moment you realise, something that you prayed for just has happened😅 Still can’t believe there are so little views by such perfect content. As a sax player I can say, without practicing long tones your sound falls apart sooner or later. Those exercises are essential. I like the idea of playing octaves at the same embouchure position. Man, I love your sound, if I would describe it, I would say it is so vintage and old school but in the most beautiful way. It is like I’m imaging Michael Brecker playing alto as best as he can. Wish I could sound as rich someday.

Hey Ivan. Thanks so much for the kind words. That's high praise in my books! Sound is something I've worked on obsessively over the years... Its my number 1. More videos on the topic to come for sure!

Out all of the videos I've seen about how to get a better tone, your video has the best explanation for it. No wonder I Squeak a lot and most of the time my tone is thin, is because I keep running out of air and then I compensate with closing the jaw, pinching the Reed, thus getting a bad sound.
Thanks a lot man, I subscribed.

Great to hear that! Thanks for the feedback. Definitely work on the breathing. Also, if you're playing on hard reeds consider going down a size.

@@joelsena I have a question about my sax setup, I'm using a Meyer 6 medium with jazz select cane reeds 2.5, I find them a little bit hard to play, I also have a legere signature series 2.0, which is way softer reed but, I don't like the sound it makes, it sounds like a kazoo, do you think that playing this setup is hurting my playing? I find myself sometimes blowing a lot of air to get the sound out, plus biting too, I have been playing for 10 months only, I just want to make sure I am in the right Path to getting a great sound.
Thanks I'll keep watching your videos in the future.

Jazz select 2.5 with Meyer 6 is a great setup. However, if you've only been playing for 10 months, your mouth muscles may not have developed enough yet. I would recommend 2 options. 1 - stay on the same setup but methodically practice long tones with good technique. 2 - use size 2 jazz select reeds for a while until you've built up a strong embouchure and then move back up. You could also consider using a Yamaha 4c mouthpiece for a while. Either way I think being really conscious of your technique is so important, because you'll develop habits and you want them to be good habits! Hope that helps :)

@@joelsena Thanks for the response Joel, I do have a Yamaha 4c, but I thought that by changing mouthpiece my sound was going to get better, hence why I have the Meyer 6 now, I guess the joke is on me lol, I will follow your advice about getting jazz select 2.0, but I will try the ones that I have now with Yamaha 4c, for some reason I don't have to blow as hard with the 4c. Thanks again Joel, how long have you been playing? BTW.

@@fulanodetal4006 I've been playing for 20 years. Don't get me wrong, the Meyer is a great mouthpiece, you might just need a bit more time to work on your technique. Try those few different setups and see what works best. There's always an adjustment with new gear so keep that in mind. Try not to change too many times (I've made that mistake before!).
