Drove 65miles to the track. In a $300 thunderbird with a $399 stock 5.3 with a SS2 Elgin cam and a cast VS racing s475 purchased on sale.
After making one 1/8th mile pass where it went 12.0@68mph “trying” to fly under the radar was as successful as buzzing the tower in daylight. Guy running the standing lanes lined me up next to a giant intercooler no front bumper turbo mk4 vw golf on slicks. I put a semi truck on them to the 1/8th mile letting out and hitting the brakes because it still felt faster than 11.50 ending up going 12.0 and the turbo golf just barely coming around me at the very end of the track going a high 11@127 iirc(don’t have that half of the slip)
I pull plugs, square up my tune up, fix boost curve, add a small amount of timing, it did something funky where it shifted 1-2 early then downshifted back to 1st(*foreshadowing* this hurts me later).
I return to the lanes to make another 1/8th mile test pass.
In the staging lanes I get asked if I want to race the Tesla, which has GoPros on it facing backwards.
I agree, because he says something about not finding many 10second cars and he’s trying to make it interesting.
I make an executive decision that I’m going to throw away all future attempts at testing and run it out because those go pros on the Tesla will only film the crowd in the background and I refuse to be viewed in them.
Tesla driver asks: “does it run 10s”
    Me: “probably not”
Me: “what kind of light do you normally cut?”
    Tesla driver “sub .1”
Tesla driver “do you need a head start?”
Me: “no, leave on the light”
I can tell he’s assumed it’s slower than 10s and not for a second did he consider if all goes according to plan I’m about to crack off a 9.98@140
Also, im going to tree you
I’d you’ve watched the video All did not go according to plan. I do tree him, It goes 10.3@137 because it now shifted the 2-3 immediately after shifting second and I walk around the Tesla in 3rd gear for almost the whole track(can be heard in video). I knew it wasn’t going to be ideal as it happened and quickly weighed my options to abort and try again, but ultimately refused to be seen in those backwards facing go pros.
Had it shifted correctly that still wasn’t a 9.99 even, too slow of a 60’. Probably a 10.1
I simultaneously got asked not to run it again until I had all necessary safety equipment, and congratulated for putting a big mark in the loss column of the Tesla.
Not bad for the first full pass on the car and one previous 1/8th mile. I drive the 65miles home knowing the next full pass will be a 9 with any bit of a decent 60’ that’s completely possible when the track doesn’t have water and sand on it from 200 street cars.
