I tried it once and there was a difference, but the sound was not as good as new strings. I also noticed that the improvement didn't last for very long, only two weeks. With new strings it took about a month before the sound began to decline. So I have never tried it since. What might work is to put the old strings in an ultra sonic cleaning bath with a solvent like automotive fuel, but I have never tried that.

Ah! Your post hasn’t been rejected, you just left it under another video ☺️
Yeah, you are right, the effect doesn’t last long. It can be a solution when you have an important gig ahead and you’re not ready to put the new strings on. I think it’s because the strings stretch, and boiling doesn’t fix it. So probably the ultrasonic bath won’t fix it either. I haven’t tried it.
