- In Jurassic Park Lex and Tim lock a Velociraptor in the freezer during the kitchen scene. For years we thought the Raptor would freeze to death but now the new Survival game shows us it escaped. But HOW did this dinosaur get out and could the plot revolve around that? Nemesis and Mr. X are good examples of following antagonists that this could be like or maybe even the xenomorph in Alien Isolation. Either way it’s not just spitter Dilophosaurus and the T.rex she has to deal with, but now another carnivore too!

Small note about these kind of freezers. They have a safety lock release inside. All it requires is a push and it’s on the door. Definitely won’t be hard for the raptor to push with his snout. These releases work even with the pin in. I believe these were done in the late 80’s after accidents of people getting lock in.
They didn't even locks on the car doors.. but the inside of the freezer - yep, better get those ...

That was my thinking. The Raptor inadvertently pushed the emergency escape button that was on the inside of all commercial food freezers.
@@bmir89 The car doors thing was probably due to those vehicles being, largely, gutted and other electronics built into it. Extremely custom work.
The freezer is more likely just a standard off the shelf model for the kitchen, same with everything else there
Yeah, you can see it at 1:09. The white button on the inside only needs to be pushed in a bit. As you said, the same snout push the use on the regular doors would do it easily.

If you read my theory comment its easily explained why the raptor probably didn't push the safety release from the inside.
Freezer doors usually can only be locked in so far that no one from the outside can get in. It would not only be pointless but dangerous to design the locking mechanism in a way that it would enable you to lock someone in, therefore there is usually a safety mechanism in place in order to prevent this from happening by accident. In the movie, when you watch closely, you can see the lever inside on the door that does just that.
Yeah IRRC due to federal labor laws(in the us at least) its actually impossible to "lock" someone(or in this case a raptor) inside of a walk in freezer. osha requires the door be able to be opened from the inside regardless of if its locked on the outside.

Yep, it’s the white button at 1:09. I’ve worked at places with this same safety button. When the freezer door has closed and you’re trying to exit with your hands full, it’s super easy to just push against the button with your hip and it pops right open. I can’t imagine it taking longer that a minute for the raptor to figure it out/get lucky when pushing at the door.

@@Schnipps And? I doubt they are going to find a walk in freezer that doesn't have that feature as a standard, especially one as large as what is shown in film. American laws may not apply on the island, but you bet your ass who ever made that freezer isn't going to make a small change to their product just to suit a random client
The locking mechanism for the freezer isn't indestructible. With enough force, it's entirely possible that the Raptors' weight could've broken the pin and freed itself. I once worked in a store where we had freezers and Box Freezers that used a pin to lock it (although the pins got lost once the chain worn out)
Nobody but lex and Tim knows she’s in there. Be too much of a coincidence if another person happened to open the freezer. Maybe the main character opens it and the raptor is so cold it’s semi conscious so the main character runs away scared not thinking to lock it back in.

The lock is built into the handle. The handle is still clearly on the door and the pin that essentially IS the lock is hanging down below on its chain in its normal position when not being used. The Raptor did NOT bust the lock. That was manually unlock from someone or someTHING in the kitchen. There are dents in the exterior of the fridge door which could indicate other dinosaurs possibly fighting or maybe Mama raptor called her babies to come help her escape somehow. It's also completely possible that the raptor clawed its way out of the walls of the freezer as they are relatively thin sheet metal with foam insulation sandwiched in between.
The pin is shown intact there...
I wonder if the girl unlocked it herself, and we just don’t see it in the trailer. Maybe she was going to hide from the dilophosaur in the freezer, but was forced to flee before she could fully open it. The raptor would have been lethargic after being in the freezer an entire day, so would have been slow to emerge. I’d love the irony if she was responsible for releasing the antagonist that stalks her throughout the game.
I could see the main character accidentally letting the raptor out, she’s hiding from the Dilophosaurus in the kitchen and maybe thinks to sneak into the freezer and hide in there till it goes away, only she opens the door, sees a velociraptor in there, then closes it but doesn’t have time to lock it again due to the dilophosaurus that now knows where she is, could all happen in a cutscene maybe?
Definitely agree most with this! Seems like the most plausible and least convoluted way of explaining it.

The peg that Lex puts into the handle is only to prevent the door from opening from the outside. It's part of a larger mechanism for putting padlocks and such on the doors. HOWEVER as a safety precaution the doors can be opened from the inside regardless of the locks placed in the door. You Tim grab onto it when he goes to close the door.
Some models I believe also glow in the dark, so the Big One is locked in this freezer with a large glowing circle that she can see. They've opened doors, figured out the fences, it's not difficult to believe she figured out how to open it from the inside with the emergency release. I'm chalking up the hanging chain and pin to dumb marketing.
Yeah if that’s the case could be a similar situation to the whole door being closed in one scene and opened the next during the road attack scene.

No, the Big One is one of the Raptors who died to Rexy (The Big One gave Rexy her iconic scars on her neck)
@@steel58836no the big one was in the freezer, if you watch the film you see it clearly leading the other raptor in the kitchen, and the last raptor to appear is the one Ellie faced in the shed and had to make its way to Muldoons killers

The raptor activated the emergancy exit button inside the freezer. This is a safety feature should anyone get locked in even with the pin in place. It’s a common feature on these, the emergancy button also glows in the dark so the raptor could have inquisitivly activated it either purposefully or accidentally
It's common today, not when this movie took place. In the 1990's, laws where passed in the U.S. that made these safety features standard on walk-in freezers, but most of them didn't properly work or where never properly installed or maintained as they where seen as "unnecessary". And this particular freezer would have been installed some time in the late 1980's or early 90's so it's emergency escape whould more likely then not... not work if it ever worked at all.

I think the teaser deliberately leaves out a part of the kitchen scene. While I like your theory that there could be someone else in there that might have unlocked the freezer ( but who..and why, and would they know what was in there??) I think they teased us with the answer by leaving out a crucial set up. I believe that we ( as in the main character) perhaps goes up to that door thinking it would be a good place to hide from the dilophosaur, and maybe even puts out the lock, preparing to open it when she is either spotted by the Dilo...or she can HEAR that something is on the other side of the door and she panics and runs from it without re-locking it. ..to me that scenario seems like the most likely reason it is heavily teased but clearly some snippets of that scene are left out.

I was thinking the same idea, that the PC openwd the door in hopes of hiding from the Dilo only to see a velociraptor entering brumation, panics and leaves the door open allowing the raptor's body temperature to rise enough for it to wake up
The answer on how the Raptor got out of the freezer depends on weather you go by book or movie canon.
My guess when Mia joshie is escaping from the dilophosaurus I would say that during the escape from it she accidentally breaks the lock and the raptor escapes from the freezer.
Maybe she let's it out to fight the dilo. A little dumb bit not out of the realm of possibility
This was my thought exactly. It could be that she thinks she can hide in the freezer but either stops because the Dilo catches up, or she can hear something on the other side of the door and backs away from it, then has to continue to run from the Dilo.

It's an interesting one for sure, I covered it, but the fact the "Pin" is hanging out, makes me think human interference, despite the "emergency release" in freezers which was law from like the 1970s. interesting topic to be sure with the new game! Great video bud!
They should make aftermath canon again because it has a legitimately good story.
@@vantagepoint9270 It doesn’t contradict but upon release the studio claimed it was canon and Universal got mad at them for saying that without checking with them and they decononified it and won’t change it back. Its current status has fallen into soft canon but it should be made full canon again because it is an awesome and underrated game and story that deserves more recognition for the lore it adds.
I may have no idea how it happened, but I'm glad we're finally getting a follow up on that raptor in the freezer. I kept expecting someone in either the first two "World" films or "Camp Cretaceous" to come across it and find a terrifying, frozen corpse. Hopefully this game will give a solid explanation for the raptor's escape.

It's been awhile and I haven't paid that close attention on the lock
But remember that the pin ist just there so the handle cant be moved. The actual lock ist possibly way stronger, since it has to be able to tighten the door to a seal.
Since the newer "Producers" of content in this franchise are not know for continuity, i think that animal is dead.

I always thought that the main characters from the movie weren't the only people on the island.
I'm sure there would have been some essential staff members here and there over the island needed for certain things like looking after livestock or sick/injured dinosaurs ect and the tour was still technically going despite the approaching storm so there could of been waiters or a cook even at the hotel that Alan ect were going to stay at. They evacuated all non essential staff only so I'm sure there were still a few essential staff around the island.

Hmmm, I want some ic- HOLY SH*T THERES A RAPTOR IN THE FREEZER
1:08 I can shed some light on the freezer door here. I worked with a lot of freezers with this type of door. It's a simple setup, but one that requires adjusting every so often. So on the wall you have a small arm going out with a wheel on the end that will let the handle "hook" onto it. This arm is solid and won't move, but the wheel is on a about 3-4 inches of steel track that can be easily adjusted with a flathead screwdriver. This allows for different thickness in doors when installed and such. The screw sitting in here is about 1 inch across. These bolts get loose after a few weeks of going in and out just from the door opening and closing. Now, once it's loose, and it only takes a little bit, the door will not stay closed, or, if you wanted to, you could push it open without the handle needing to be moved. I will say, as I've read in some of the other comments, I have seen some freezers with the pin lock and keep it from being opened from the inside. I know this because me and a coworker tested it because we wanted to see, so it's a possibility that the pin wouldn't let it open. Also since it was in the 1990s, I'd hazard a guess as to how well regulated Costa Rica was at the time for some of these things, but then again, if Hammond really spared no expense...

There was a button inside the door in those old freezer systems, if you oush it it releases the door even if its locked the raptor (the big one) using behavior traits probably pushed the button eventually and opened the door we actually say this button in the movie. I CANT WAIT FOR THE GAME IM BUYING FIRST DAY😁😁😁
The locking mechanism isn't suppose to be indestructible. They're suppose to be easily breakable incase someone gets stuck inside that way they can force themselves out. There are exceptions but it has been thought about when designing these things. Today they can have tougher locks with alternative ways to unlock it from the inside like buttons and such. But back then ideally it's either a lock that can be easily busted through by a healthy adult or there was a fire axe in there(i been to a place that had that incase if a person wasn't strong enough to bust out on their own.).

My head cannon would have somebody that was left on the island is wondering around looking for food. So they get to the kitchen, and where they gonna look, in the freezer. They open it up and find themselves to be the only snack to be had.
Those types of freezer doors have a button on the inside in case you accidentally get locked in. On the film you can even see it. This could be the way the raptor got out, it just pushed the button.
I still remember one of your older videos Klayton regarding the Raptor in the freezer, called A Chilling Prediction! This vid definitely reminded me of that! I’m definitely looking forward to seeing Jurassic Park survival and the events that are gonna take place! ☺️

Its my belief that "the big one" is the one in the thawed out freezer, which explains why their pursuit of the main characters was disjointed and uncoordinated. She definitely was one of the two in the kitchen because she called and another quickly obeyed.

You known what I just realized something, the 1994 cleanup report never disclosed if they found an adult raptor corpse on the freezer. They said they found juvenile remains, and about the two others killed by the rex, it's pretty safe to say that Rexy would not leave any remains after eating their corpses (JP:TG also somewhats alludes to this since the Jerry Harding only find small remains - only a raptor foot actually - and never sees the rest of the bodies). So maybe I'm overthinking It, but why would they never confirm that are any ADULT raptors, maybe they just never found the remains or bother looking for it since they just assumed to be dead.
I can see her running up to the freezer and unlocking it as a smart place to hide just to see a huddled raptor in the corner cold and slow, slowly waking up and thawing a bit.

I would hope that Jurassic Park: Survival is canon, but also doesn't directly tread upon what the Telltale game has. I know that it's wishful thinking and letting fans like myself have our cake and eat it, too, but JP:TG is honestly one of my favorite non-film JP experiences. I love that it was trying to be canon (despite some glaring errors), and that some elements were adopted into the official film lore. But either way, Jurassic Park: Survival looks like it's going to be awesome. I do hope that it is canon.

Imagine the scene where it gets out: you enter the kitchen as a part of the story and maybe, as a part of getting a weapon or plot-device, you make some noise causing the raptor to begin ramming the door again; you then need to get out fast before it opens it. Maybe you can even see the lock shivering from the amount of force the animal has been throwing at it.

I find it ironic. Last year, I showed my dad the Jurassic Park Telltale Game, to give him the best explanation of what happened to the Barbasol Can before Jurassic World Dominion. He was intrigued by the story, but I remember when we finished Chapter One, when Nima takes the Hardings hostage, Dad proposed a little theory I hadn't even thought of.
He thought that Jess and Jerry would try to escape from Nima by running deeper into the Visitor Center. And that eventually they'd get to the kitchen and someone would try to hide in the freezer. They'd unlock the door, unwittingly releasing the final raptor; so then they'd have _that problem_ to deal with.
Looking back, I actually really liked that idea and am more or less surprised the game didn't utilize it. It could've even happened in the game with got, considering that after Vargas got bitten by the Troodons, he starts tripping-out. He could've easily come across the freezer door and opened it. Still, I'm satisfied that we got some Raptor action in the game, even if they were extra-raptors brought in from Site B.
But I find it so ironic, that for years I hadn't even considered this as a possibility. And now, here's this new game, teasing us with this concept as its book-end.

While she is looking for a place to hide from Dilo, she notices the velociraptor stuck in the freezer. Let's it out, they battle, she gets away. Bam. Raptor freedom and everyone gets to see the long awaited raptor vs dilo battle.
Ive seen from shadows video that in the freezer there's 2 things.
1 theres a type of button that can unlock from the inside should someone get locked in.
And there is a knob that tim grabbed when he ran in.

My grandmother had a freezer with a door similar to this in her store. My cousins and i would play hide and seek and accidentally lock ourselves in it a couple of times. All the raptor really needed to do was push the button.
There is an emergency escape button incase employees get locked in there. Its the white button Tim funny enough grabs not to slip before he swings around the door and shuts it on the raptor. Even if the lock is engaged the emergency button would just have to be pressed on the inside of the freezer to escape. Nothing can get in while its locked ofcourse but if somthing inside wants to get out it would just have to hit the escape button. It also glows in the dark incase the lights are out which they usually are when the doors shut, so it could have been glowing and attracted the raptor. I think the raptor had just hit the button trying to ram it or got curious at the glow and released it self in the process.
My thought is that the raptor was able to use the emergency handle/button to get out, OR, the events of this game take place at the same time as the first movie and she is in the kitchen BEFORE the kids show up to the visitor's center.
More than the story and gameplay, knowing how the raptor got loose is what I want to know the most
JP: Survival Game has a real opportunity to make Telltale's JP canon, and it would be cool if it happened. At least partially

You see that white knob in the clip from the original movie? Push it (no pun intended) the door will open. The walk-in freezers are meant to keep people out, not keep them in. It's a required safety regulation. The attached key is normally not chained to the door.
Honestly, as excited as I am for the raptors and rex to come back, I want the herbivores to be possible enemies too.
Not just for variety, but I think it would make sense due to the animals breeding and being more aggressive.
Imagine, you think you're safe after escaping the rex and getting to see a Triceratops. Only to find out she's making a nest and that, "Mommy's very angry."

Wow, I actually didn’t know that Raptor nest in the first movie was from inside their first paddock. That explains everything! I couldn’t figure out how they had a nest and mated in the wild already when they hadn’t escaped their paddock yet. Also I have a theory on how the raptor gets out of the freezer. Maybe during the game when the woman is hiding in the kitchen and the Dilo walks in, she maybe thinks of hiding in the freezer. When she gets to it she struggles with getting it unlocked because of how terrified she is. The Dilo suddenly startles her just as she gets it unlocked and she decides to forget the freezer and just to get the hell out. Leaving it unlocked and the Raptor free.
Maybe the protagonist went to hide in there and had an "uh oh" moment.
She probably opened it looking for shelter/food, or heard a noise in it and thought it was a person trapped inside, opened it, saw what was in it, freaked out and ran.
The only thing I want to see is someone poking around in the old park's power plant and stumble onto John Arnold's lighter.

The raptor maybe used its head or feet to get out. But somebody had to take the freezer key out first. Then the raptor pushed the button to get out just an thought.😊
In this kind of freezers, there usually is an emergency lock release from the inside.
There's a panic button on the inside of the freezer. You can actually see it right before Timmy slams the door shut.
Either way , I’m personally glad players will still have to deal with the dangers of velociraptors being lose on Isla Nublar
Someone made a video recently that seems to explain it. One the inside of the door we can see what looks like a large, circular white "button" of sorts.
With certain other freezer doors at the time had these" fail-safes" inside, to ensure nobody locked themselves in. All one would have to do is press this button from the inside and the door will unlock.
Wouldn't be fun to get some of the Mythbusters back together to test if the raptor could have pounded that lock open from the inside?
Klayton Fioriti, I like to say that from Telltale game JP, there had been a new Alpha female raptor with a scar across her left eye, that she received from mercenary Oscar, along with two subordinates (though originally five after they were shipped from Site B to replace the original five that the Big One Killed. But two of which were killed; one by Oscar and the other by Rexy the Queen of Isla Nublar).
So these two curious questions.
Do you really think it’s likely that the raptor trio along with the scarred leader from Telltale would have a new appearance in the new game and encounter the lone individual that escaped from the cold storage and combined into four Velociraptors be the dangers that pursue after Maya Joshi?
Or it’s just the lone individual raptor after escaped the cold storage that hunts after Maya?
I’ve watched this clip recently to where the raptor gets locked into the freezer. And here’s a small detail that I’ve found from the door itself. If you look closely right to where Tim gets out and the raptor gets up. If you pause at the exact moment and look closely at the door itself, it’s got a white circular handle at the end of it. What it is supposed to be is that this kind of fridge is called a Walk In Cooler, they have a lock mechanism that is outside of the fridge itself, but on the other side at the inside of the fridge right where that locks position is at, there is a circular handle at the other side that, and what this does is if you get stuck inside the fridge itself, you can push that handle when you see it glow in the dark and it will open the fridge for you. And yes, it can also open even when the fridge door is locked. The back handle is designed to push out keys that are locked in place in these kind of coolers. It’s a safety reason so that way people don’t get trapped inside. So it’s very likely in my opinion that the raptor saw the handle glowing and eventually pushed that handle, then was able to open the door that way.

In the book there's more than just the main characters on the island, when John Hammond is attacked by the compys he calls to a grounds keeper for help but the guy doesn't help him. Same thing might have been going on in the movie and maybe someone went to restock the freezer or something and accidently let it out. Just a thought

It could even be something so simple like a cut scene where your character unlocks the freezer as she is trying to hide, sees the raptor as it starts waking up, and it cuts to first person and you run .. as fast as you can 🏃♀️🦖 no time to relock the door 😂
I think the most likely reason the raptor got out was that Joshi opened the door without knowing the raptor was in there. And even more likely, it won’t even give us the answer in the video game.
