Confirmed lmao was recommended four times today before I watched lol
Already did for me!
Found it!

Aqua still is one of my favorite GUIs. It brought a sense of alive-ness whenever a window would pop up and the blue button would have a subtle animation to grab your attention but not fully distract.
Aqua was the perfect point because it was still abstract enough to not mean anything, but vivid enough to be beautiful
Aqua feels like the perfect mix of realism, it's just subtle enough for you to appreciate it.
Ahh, so skeuomorphism isn’t simply “non-flatness” - it’s about referencing concepts to help us more naturally understand their functionality. Now I have a much better understanding of what the fuss is all about.
I think that's a good way to frame it. Neumorphism maintains those references to real-world concepts, without relying solely on those concepts, to accommodate for design situations where there is no real-world counterpart.
It was actually so important - especially early on. People could only adopt computers and the new tech if there were metaphors used!
I kind of miss skeuomorphism sometimes. I found this video really fascinating because I never considered how making the apps look like their real world counterparts actually made them easier to understand from an outsider perspective. Sometimes it just looks so much more visually interesting than everything being flat. Unfortunately the modern world disagrees. That's why I'm hoping neumorphism starts to catch on and we start seeing some more interesting UIs.
I want skeuomorphism to come back as well 😭
I really miss the glass-like shiny highly polished look of iOS 6 and it's previous versions. That was the identity of apple.
All I can say is wow. To say I'm an Apple geek is a massive understatement, yet I still learned things in this video. Let alone the additional knowledge, the presentation is beyond phenomenal. Your incredibly apparent hard work just got a subscription!
lol
lol
I've always loved the skeuomorphic icons as a kid. In fact, when iOS 7 was released in 2013 when I was like 6, I hated it! I hated the ugly flat icons, the lack of realistic-looking things, all of it. I wanted the "3D look" back so badly. Unfortunately, as a kid, I never got to go back to that era of iOS. When I bought an iPod touch 5th gen just a few months ago and downgraded it from iOS 9 to iOS 6, I was hit so hard with nostalgia. The icons. The textures. The smooth animations. The look and feel. The semi-transparent status bar. The lack of anything flat and boring. Everything. It took me back. Back to an era when I was just a kid and there was nothing to stress about... nothing to worry about... no problems with school (kinda)... no constant asking of me to do chores... I want to go back. Unfortunately, this, and a few other nostalgic items, are the closest I can get to going back to my childhood, the golden years of my life. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Have a nice day!
@@riagabriella3505 Yeah, or at least add it as a theme option.
@arless lmao
Lmao… 30’s are most peoples golden years, not childhood
@arless So it's bad to have proper grammar now? :/
Anyway, yes, I grew up with iOS 5/6 and I just want to reminisce on it, is that too much to ask?
@@HugoTheWizard I'm not even 30 yet .-.
And besides, my 30s will probably be worse than my childhood :P
This channel's definitely gonna hit 1 mil subs in a year or two
It's a year no 1M yet wow so underrated
and he stopped uploading
@@sakawa6838 huh??
@@sakawa6838 nigga what the fuck??? bro was sayin that he is underrated that he didn't get 1M subs as of yet.
@@sakawa6838 says the one who's talking way more shit for 97 subs ☠️💀
wow I got goosebumps when I saw you've only got over a hundred of subscribers
Maaaaan the quality was like if you'd have a million
don't ever quit CZcams the algorithm will find you!
Love from Hungary 🇭🇺
As if!
When you have an interest in something that only a few people care about but then there are people like you, still putting out quality informational content for the small audience that is, it is very much appreciated. Super good vid, well done bro👏
I really loved the skeumorphism, it was the thing which set Apple apart from other brands. I still remember being mesmerised when I got my first Apple product, iPad 2 running iOS 5. Apple should include an option to use skeumorphic theme.
It felt like a tiny world in your pocket.
This vedio inspired me to design my startup by myself rather than design it from another designer. So much thoughts are roaming in my head while writing this comment💥
Here from reddit. Amazing Production quality. Subscribed right away.

Guess what! This is Blowing up! I hope that he realises and continues to make Apple history videos, or any tech company’s design!
I remember as a kid with my iPad 2 I was overjoyed when I got iOS 7 because I thought it looked so much better. It’s kinda fun to see people here with the exact opposite experience
Quality insight. User Interface Design, (specifically on the iOS platform since 2007) has been my day job since 1999 and your apparent interest, appreciation and insight on this topic warms my heart. Thank you, keep at it!
How did you put that apple logo there?
@@Vlad2005 on a Mac, you can simply type Alt-a on the keyboard to get the Apple logo.
this series is such a gem!! i love how apple has always payed so much attention to detail in design
just binged "the proof is in the popsocket" and the two apple design videos and unironically I would watch you do an hour long deep dive into different UI/tech concepts and the history of it
This just appeared on my feed for the first time. Good job on the video bro
This is so well done omg! So interesting!
Im looking forward to pt.2 !!
randomly stumbling upon this channel made my night
here for algorithm
production is way too good to be this underrated
Proud to be one of the first 100 subscribers to this channel! Looking forwad to seeing more from you in the future! 🤙
This was a truly amazing video. Well paced, informative and detailed all whilst remaining engaging and interesting. Keep doing your thing man! 👏
Just found this channel and it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for, thoughtful video essays about technology. Would love it if you ever want to upload again.
Beautifully crafted video, you know your stuff. Please don’t stop. I enjoy learning and your channel is really calm and informative!
I'm UI designer and loveee this video, don't stop making video please
WOW. Um ok, I searched up skeuomorphism because I had a deep thought about 12 minutes ago. I've now watched your entire video and you got me gagging for more. The whole layout was incredible, I used to love the old skeuomorphism of apple devices and I am so glad they're (kind of) bringing it back. You have got me subbed and waiting for part 2 my friend.
Wow! I feel so lucky to have discovered a channel! While you had fewer subscribers than I thought given the quality of this video, it feels great to be your 177th subscriber, excited for the future! And I agree with the last part where you say Forstall proved software design doesn’t have to be boring - too true with today’s apps and operating systems :( but I’m looking forward to this neomorphism despite still thinking the traditional free-form macOS icons are better since they are arguably the most beautiful and recognisable part of macOS.
From that intro and voice, I already knew that I would enjoy this series!
This is one of the highest quality videos I have watched, and I was surprised that it was from a channel with only 334 subs. The new shift in the channel's content seems great, and its quality is on point. Without any fluff complimenting, keep what you're doing because it's great!
Just wait until the algorithm skyrockets your channel to the place it deserves sooner or later
What a well-produced video wow!
We're currently looking for design inspiration for a brand CI redesign and I stumbled upon this video.
Subbed instantly. You deserve millions more subscribers dude.
I was really looking forward to part 2 and I'm about to watch it now, just did a rewatch first. Excellent content, keep up with your great work! I hope for this channel to grow endlessly. Cheers!
Excellent Information. liked your content
Absolutely phenomenally crafted video essay. You've got great talent, I look forward to seeing you blow up soon! Bless the algorithm for suggesting this ahaha
This video was edited so professionally that I assumed you were a popular channel that I've never heard of, But When I saw you have under 400 subs, I was surprised! I hope you get bigger.
lets be honest . this man is going to be one of the top channels pretty soon
The quality of this video is amazing considering the size of the channel I’d have thought it was so much bigger! Keep it up
Man, just stumbled upon your channel. Keep up with the good work! It takes a lot for a content creators to get me subscribed, the final thing that won me over was you posting all of the songs used. Thank you
This is like if Nerdwriter made a video on Apple Design. Incredibly well edited, your channel is gonna be great.
this video somehow got into my feed and I have to say it was awesome to watch. so sad you are not producing anymore on CZcams! excellent video and please come back :)
just discovered your channel and I'm LOVING it. hoping you upload more in the future 🙏
You have a nice voice to listen to and you explain the history clearly. I hope you keep making movies like this.
Your Apple Design series is so good! Keep up the good work and your channel will grow!
This video is so incredibly amazing and well made. Congratulations man, I’m blown away.
Your content is amazing. Clean, simple, stylish and just needed. Thank you for this
Great stuff, keep it up. Love the chilled, quiet style and approach.
Amazing video! Have to say-this is one of the most well put-together videos I’ve seen in a while!
Hi Jerry,
I almost never comment on CZcams. I had to this time, though, because your content is simply superb. Not only is what you have to say richly researched and interesting, but your production value suggests you've got a dedicated team behind you (I'm guessing it's just you, though, and so hats off to an amazing job well done!).
I sincerely believe that if you keep up with this you're sure to find additional viewers who will be as impressed as I am with your content. I've already sent this video to my wife and tech friend, and I'll likely spam other friends with it, too. It's that good.
Well explained. I am not a programmer, nor a product designer, just someone who is interested in learning how things came to be! This explanation was so simple and straight to the point. Keep it up!
I think the algorithm has found you, and I’m glad for this
This video is incredible. You are probably the most underrated creator on this app. I hope your channel blows up soon, you deserve it!
The entire video, I didn't look at the view count, expecting this to have millions of views easy. Shocked to see such little attention given to such a quality video.
Keep going dude! You've got all the right ingredients.
Excited for Part 2!! Nice work!
Dude, amazing job. Editing is sharp and your analysis and delivery is solid. Keep it up man. Subbbbbed! 🥇💫
I personally am a fan of skeuomorphism and miss the old way iOS and other Apple software used to look, I have been less than pleased since the new flat design was introduced a long time ago at this point...but I must say, the new MacOS design is a perfect mix between the fresh look that was brought about with the flat design-sense and the skeuomorphic feel of the past. I absolutely love the new MacOS design and would be extremely delighted if they brought it to iOS/iPadOS next. For the first time in a while, I will feel the way I felt using their products once upon a time. The rest of the experience using Apple products is still there, but I've missed the tangible skeuomorphic feel while consuming the UI.
You can tell Ive isn't here anymore because they're finding their roots again.
one of the most underrated videos I've seen on youtube, amazing job man
The design of iOS 1-6 wowed me. It looked absolutely outstanding. It felt rich, premium, I could tell that someone worked painstakingly hard designing this, planning every tiny detail. You could feel the design, not just see it. Even the animations resonated with you and complimented the design. It was a privilege to use iOS 6.
iOS 7 onwards was plain and amateurish. I don't think there's ever been such a massive drop in quality. It was like a downgrade from first class Titanic to third. The fact that iOS 7's terrible design has lasted so long is one of the reasons I've lost faith in humanity.
I absolutely agree. It’s one of the reasons I main IOS 6 on iPhone 3GS. It’s just so clean, comfortable and pleasing to look at.
@@kraftwerklover69 what are you even capable of doing on ios 6 that's basically just a dumb phone at this point
I am envious. An amazing video all around. Without a doubt, one of my favorite videos from an independent creator to date.
Amazingly produced. From the writing to the music. This was a really fun watch.
Extremely Underrated, Good luck on CZcams! Love it

Great video Jerry. The whole production was well executed.
Very informative and you've got a great presentational style. Keep it up man.
This is good content. Very well put together and explained. Keep it up man!
Everything about this video is elite. After watching the video I glanced at the views expecting it to be in hundreds of thousands at the least. There is zero correlation between the quality of this video and views it’s received. Fantastic watch sir!
Such a great and informative video!
Bro I expected 100K+ subscribers for a video with this much production quality. You are on a path to success, don’t stop. First result for “Apple skeuomorphism”.
Underrated video and underrated UI design. Keep on the good work
Apple design peaked in iOS 6. Beautiful, three dimensional icons, drawing inspiration from real life objects, resulting in sleek and varied designs. Game center wasn't confusing because of the styling, game center was confusing because it was practically useless. As someone who played games on iOS in those days, openfeint was using a completely different (still three dimensional) design and it was great.
Today's apple icons could have been made by a child.
You're too good at explaining. Thank you
Such a nice video, keep creating such content, we will support you!
I’m so happy I stumbled upon this video. I hope the creator returns in a more consistent fashion.
This is some top tear production man... love it! Please keep doing this.
