It is impossible foe a music lover to know all the 200 sacred cantatas of Bach. There is a frech book by Gilles Cantagrel, editions Fayard, which presents an analysis of each of them. A very precious documents, which should be translated in several languages. I already heard of this cantata but has no opportunity to listen to it. It is indeed a masterwork, with its awesome keyboard continuo in the first aria., and its flutes in the final chorale, quite convenient for this Christmas times. ❤❤❤

Yes, it certainly detracted from my enjoyment. I presume they were forced to wear them, and it's also ridiculous, if anyone even thinks they work, that the actual singers, expelling air far more vigorously, were unmasked, whereas the poor string players who don't say anything during the performance, had to wear them.
