    Hi! In this DBD guide, I go over 10 beginner survivor mistakes that are super easy to fix! These mistakes are some that I see a lot of newer players do very often and have such an easy fix to them, I had to make a video on it!!
    For each mistake, I explain why it's actually a mistake and then list a solution to the specific mistake.
    For the beginners out there I hope this video helped you out, and if it did, make sure to let me know in the comments so I know to do more beginner guides :)
    Timestamp for each mistake:

      Don't immediately drop a gen to go do something. My friends constantly do this and it annoys me. If someone JUST got hooked don't run towards them. They're going to be hanging out for a while so atleast spend a couple seconds getting some gen progress while allowing time for the killer to go away

      Problem is a good killer knows when your just trying to lure them to an random corner of the map and will just exit the chase early on and will return somewhat near the hook

    • @Petrichorus-
      @Petrichorus- Před 3 lety

      @@Prodominatrix that’s still better though because in that situation they’re forced to leave you and check on the hook. If you’re being chased AND run to the hook then it lets the killer control/pressure 2 survivors at once, possibly 3 if someone was already there.
      Besides, the trick is to not be too obvious about getting their attention. You shouldn’t try to get in their face, you should be doing a gen or actually going for the rescue, not just planning to distract unless there’s 2 ppl trying to unhook at the same time that the killer has to choose between. If they’re camping then wait for someone who has Borrowed Time or take the down and trade places with the hooked person. Whenever I play killer if someone very obviously tries to get me to chase them it lets me know “there’s something important they don’t want me to see” and I immediately check the nearest gens.

    At the start of the game:
    Look around for gens Is there a gen nearby?, If so, you can try to complete it right there, else go and try to do the centermost one.
    Some killers have clues that you can determine, hear a lullaby? a huntress, see a jigsaw box? a pig, this can help you to determine the best strategy.
    Split up, unless someone has prove thyself it is better to do gens separately, not only it is less efficient repairing in teams, but also if the killer appears, then there are 2 or more people off a gen right there.
    Mid game:
    Dont be afraid to be chased by the killer, mainly if you are healthy and not death on hook. This gives your teammates potential time to recover, do gens or even open gates.
    Use Items, there are tons of items that appear on the bloodweb, learn to use them and make the best out of them. You can be lucky and find an item in a chest, but dont rely on that.
    You can mostly ignore totems, even if they are lit, but remember the location, there are some hex totems that are really oppresive like Ruin or Devour hope, if you identify them you can try to cleanse them, but there are cases where it is not worth the effort. Third seal? Thrill of the hunt? You can live with it, Haunted grounds? that is a trap that can turn the tables agaisnt all of you!
    At lower levels you can expect certain builds of perks for each killer, for example, if you play against a Trickster, you can expect starstruck, Legion players usually run with discordance, If you are against a Spirit and see a lit totem that you havent identifyied, dont cleanse it, chances are it is Haunted grounds.
    Dont let your teammates die, they are the key to achieve victory, if someone is removed from play early, then it is less hands repairing a gen, one less person to rescue, and most importantly one less person to be chased by the killer.
    If you are being chased by the killer, do not run towards gens, mostly if they are being repaired, dont run into teammates by the love of the entity.
    End game:
    Once the gates are opened, look quickly for their locations and the aura of the last gen done, chances are that the killer will first check the closest gate to that gen. go to the opposite door if possible.
    If you are being chased by the killer once the last gen is done, try to run away enough of the gates to not interrupt teammates, but close enough for them to rescue you.
    You are the last person alive? You can try to use the hatch to escape, an opened hatch hums so that you can locate it by sound, and the hatch always spawn at the ground level of multi stories maps, like midwich or the game.
    If you are looking for the hatch, then try to look for it as far away from the killer...he is looking for both of you, he is faster and can cover more ground. Chances are that if the hatch is still open, it isnt nearby the killer.

    Pro tip: stop running away from the gen every time you hear the heartbeat. Chances are you’ll run face first into the killer because you panicked and sprinted to the first open area you saw. If the heartbeat is still soft and the gen almost done DONT JUMP OFF THE GEN! The amount of times a skill check pops up right when I wanna get off is insane and the killer might not even be checking the gen. Could just be in a chase. I recommend spine chill. i got a tip for new killers:
    dont let tier lists and info about killers intimidate you, obviously you should start with killers that are easy to play as until you understand the basics, and then you can pick any killer after that. if you see that you play better with killers people consider low tier, like legion, stick with them. you can use the bloodpoints you get from playing as that killer to level up other killers, and unlock their teachables, and you can mess around and try out all the different perks to see which ones work with your playstyle. dbd is a game, and games are about having fun. its not about struggling with an insanely hard killer

    @sic996 Před 3 lety +1

    Tip: if your name is cowsim, self unhook. You got the numbers.
    Real tip: USE BOND TO HAVE PLENTY OF INFO. You know if a survivor is working on a gen nearby, you know if a survivor is being chased and maybe coming to your direction (which means you can hide sooner) and you can avoid going to survivors working on gens while you are being chased because you see them from far and you have time to change direction.
    Another tip: Combine Bond with spine chill. The amount of info you get with these two perks alone is immense.
    After that, you can safely make another build.
    Solo stealth build: self-care and iron will.
    Chase stealth build: dead hard and iron will.
    Anti tunnel stealth build: decisive strike and iron will.
    Super stealth build: don't even think of doing it, you don't need a fourth stealth perk.
    In general, because spine chill and bond are so good, you pretty much have two free slots for you favourite play stile (however, this is more of a stealth oriented build, which is better on avoiding engaging the killer in the first place rather than looping him longer)

    • @sh6rpshot
      @sh6rpshot  Před 3 lety

      These are great tips! I personally have always like empathy over bond, but they are both solid options :)

    • @sic996
      @sic996 Před 3 lety

      @@sh6rpshot yeah, as a start empathy is good. Imo, people should start as Claudette when they buy the game. The fact that you can self-care, for a beginner, is something you should not undervalue, it gives some confidence.
      However, by levelling Dwight too so you can get the teachable Bond, imo you mastered the basics of the game and developed some confidence.
      Which leads to Bond to be a bit superior to empathy and I want to try to give some arguments.
      Empathy has a very wide range, but it relies on teammates being able to be downable in one hit, which is something you don't want to count on.
      You might argue that it grants you the Intel to know that someone is being chased, but that is something you can already know. You can see when someone has been hit even without empathy by simply checking on the bottom left of the screen.
      You might argue that at least you know where that is happening, but at the end of the day, if it is not within the range of Bond and Terror radius, basically if it is not close to where you are now, you are pretty safe to do your stuff. That's why developing the initial confidence with the game is crucial for my argument.
      On the other hand, as I said, Bond might have a short range, but with spine chill you know if the survivor running at you (even if full health and the killer has very low terror radius) is simply coming to you or is being chased. Which means you have time to hide and evade the unpleasant experience.
      In general, if you are running around the map, you see survivors doing stuff close to you. That means you can spot potential totems (useful if they get caught in mid cleansing so that you can finish their job), you can spot chests and you can spot gens that are being worked on so that you can repair it quickly (the most important thing).
      All these things can be done with empathy, sure, but your teammates must be very expose and it is something they don't want and that you don't want. They will try to heal and you don't want your teammates dead.
      So, sacrificing range to keep the team and yourself safer, imo, is better.
      What do you think? Why do you prefer empathy over bond? I might be wrong entirely and I don't know any other usage of empathy that is not listed in perk description.

    • @sh6rpshot
      @sh6rpshot  Před 3 lety

      Good points! I only prefer empathy over bond because at tier 3 the aura reading range spans literally the entire map, plus it also acts as useful information for where the killer is, if you see someone’s aura pop up you know they’re in a chase with the killer!

    tip for new players: if the killer is not near you just do gens. he is probablly chasing someone else or he is just searching for survivors. also keep in mind that if the killer finds you, you need an escape route so always look for a close pallet or a window so if he comes you dont get hit instantly
    this is obvious but i still want to mention that when you are looping the killer look behind you. but only to see if tyhe killer is mind gaming you. otherways you will probably bump into a tree and die.
    if you are using the perk dead hard you should look behind you befor using it so you know when to use it. but dont look behind you nonstop untill you use cuz an avregee killer can tell that you have it by that and will wait untill you use it.
    Also i want to correct the first mistake mentionated in the video: if the killer is near a hook do not unhook the person if you dont have the perk borrowed time, just let someone else do it. If nobody is coming then wait for the perfect moment to unhook and then take a hit if needed. dont necessary wait untill you dont hear a hartbeat.

      @sh6rpshot  Před 3 lety

      These are great tips! Even if you do have borrowed time though, it’s a good to always unhook when the killer leaves if you have the time. Not reason to unhook right in front of the killer even if you have BT and have one of you end up getting downed

    Another reason to 99 exit gates- the killer may have a perk called blood warden. This perk allows for the entity to block of the the exit part of the exit gate preventing you from being able to escape. This perk is triggered when a survivor has been hooked with an open exit gate. To prevent this, wait for the survivor to be put on the hook before you open the 99ed exit gate

    If you miss a skill check on a gen and you aren't sure that the killer's focus is elsewhere (chasing someone etc) be ready to run.

    • @sh6rpshot
      @sh6rpshot  Před 3 lety

      True! I usually stick the gen if I blow it up, even if I see the killer coming because if they aren’t coming ASAP and I hide, it’s wasted time I could’ve been doing the gen with!

  • @bomoore9872
    @bomoore9872 Před 3 lety

    for the beginners:
    -in regards to not farming, if you have a bill perk called borrowed time, then its okay to unhook in front of the killer.
    -For crawling on the ground, if you have a detective tapp perk called tenacity, its completely okay to do as you will recover at the same time.
    -wasting pallets, as tempting as it may be, if you know you're gonna get hit and you're in the pallet, don't take the hit and pull it down. take the hit and run to the closest loop. pallets are to get out of a chase or stop from taking a hit or getting downed. This is, of course, if you've been looping the killer for a long time.
    -to avoid 3 genning, do the gen in the middle of the map first, this guarantees that the generators will already be spread out. then split the gens up so 3 gens are as far away from each other as possible. if you're a beginner, use the felix richter perk "visionary" or the basic perk "deja vu" to see where the generators are at most times
    -if you or someone else opened the exit gate, and you know someone is being chased and will get downed or hook, consider escaping before then if you are playing against a freddy. beginner killers playing freddy will tend to have a perk called blood warden, which will prevent you from escaping for some time after a survivor is hooked. This will 9 times out of 10, end up killing you.
    -yeah being toxic is ass. like, if you're going to be a toxic person, and tbag and click your flashlight (more likely rank 1 shit) then actually be good at the game. tbagging and then dying is not cool.
    -big thing you may not know, (I didnt know at first), there is this thing in the store called shrine of secrets. in this you can "buy" perks with shards. there will be 2 killer perks, and 2 survivor perks. shards are an in-game currency which are earned for free just by playing and leveling up. you can go to the shrine of secrets to either buy a good perk, or just to read them to understand when a killer or survivor may be using them, so you can counter it

    Survivor Tip:
    If you are BRAND NEW pick Bill and use Borrowed Time as your first perk and then make sure you make it teachable first. Unhooking is the single most fundamental thing you will find yourself doing in every game aside from doing generators. No matter who you main later on that is the single best perk you'd want to have on every character.

    I’m only toxic to killers who are toxic to me first. Last night I got tunneled by a Wraith because he kept missing his swings on me. I wasn’t doing anything mean or tricky, he was just missing his swings, but he got so angry that he literally didn’t touch my teammates until I was fully dead. He’d chase them a little bit away from my hook and then come right back to face camp. So the one time I got away I juked him a few times and teabagged him because he deserved it for doing that to me for literally no reason

    2 tips:
    1: touch a generator if you see its regressing. If youre sneaky, the killer wont notice and he wont get value out of the kick.
    2: work on gens alone early game. Theres diminishing returns when multiple people are working on a generator. Furthermore killers will get much less value out of discovering an individual survivor. The teammates can keep working while one of them leads a chase. Also killers may be running discordance or surveillance which counter grouped up survivors.

    One quick question for #8:
    1. What if one of your friends tells you that they’re in a chase, but there isn’t too much pressure. He tells you that he isn’t very close to the exit gate you’re at. You want to go help him, but NOED is active. You are the only person left that isn’t on their death hook. Should you leave, and let your friend try to figure it out? Or should you go back in to try and help in some way?

    Two tips:
    Tip 1, Screw the meta, play something you enjoy. I've got about 500 hrs in by now, and *competitively* i am still hot garbage. It doesnt matter. If you are not *having fun* in the game, what's the point of playing it? I'm not going to say "never play meta" but I will say "don't let the meta decide *for you* what you play. I have won against some *pretty good people* just jerking around with probably the DUMBEST attempt at an off-meta Billy build ever...nothing feels better than doing your own thing.
    Tip 2, and I cannot stress this enough - information management. Do not just settle for knowing what is *currently* happening, try to figure what happens next. Its a hard skill to master, so this barely counts as a "newbie" tip, but the reason I include it is to stress exactly how obvious some of this can get. It's like dominoes a lot of the time, if you push the first one over, then you know what to expect. If you know the killer is hooking a survivor they chased around your area, you can assume they're going to check gens around your area. If you chase multiple survivors away from a gen and down one, you can assume there's another survivor hovering nearby for the hook save or the gen. The amount of times I've seen people just *space out totally* and just sit on a gen that I *literally just bonked his buddy off of* well after I hooked them, is way too high. There are always specifics and tricky players. But the *basic* objectives and patterns are unchanging. Survivors want to work gens. Killers want to pressure people and prevent gens. If you know what THE OTHER GUY wants to do, then you can generally find better ways to stall it or even prevent it entirely. This is THE MAIN WAY BY FAR that you get better - if you are in their head, then they are in trouble.

    You get diminishing returns for more than 1 survivor on a gen at a time.
    If the killer comes the can pressure all 3 or 4 of you at once, and now no one is on a gen and the killer knows where everyone is.
    It is much better to spread out. If you see two survivors working on a gen, its much better to find another one further away and do that gen. When there is only 1 or 2 gens left to do, then it could be beneficial to group up 3 to a gen.

    5:45 I’ve actually gotten yelled at in post-game chat for doing this, because one of the survivors wanted to escape through hatch and they called me “selfish” for not allowing them to... like, I was trying to make sure they weren’t in danger or hiding because the killer cut them off from the exit gates, why tf do people expect solo queue players to know literally everything

      That’s rarely ever happens, pretty dumb of that person to yell at you for playing it the right way😂

    Don't be a blender. What this means is while you try not to get caught, don't just go run and hide in a corner the second you hear a single heartbeat. If you're running off and hiding any time you hear the terror radius, that's one person on the team doing nothing but prolonging the game and giving the killer time to find and kill you all. Unless you know the killer is around and looking for you, you should be repairing that generator.

    i TOTALLY agree with not opening the exit gate early so not to put pressure on the rest of the team

    3 gen can be ok only if you have pallets on the opposite side of the map now you force the killer let you heal after being hit heading to the pallet valley or take the chase and have final gen pop after 3 pallets drop

      I smart killer won’t ever leave their 3 gen for a chase though :/

    On number 2 there's exceptions. Like with slippery meat I found a 100% unhook chance because you get 6 chances each of 7% meaning you have a 42% chance to self unhook I think (correct me if I'm wrong) and for me every time I use slippery meat I've self unhooked
