have you considered a night room for your public gallery? I think it would be really cool to see some cave ecosystems or nocturnal fish.
Doing a dark room type area would be super cool! That way you could view it during the day with dim lights, but the fish would (in theory??) Be active
This ⬆️
@@zebastianengelska6831 you dont have to be nocturnal to make night tank. Dim the lighting, put it somewhere isolated from other light, simulate day and night circle but in reverse. This has been done to many other nocturnal species exhibit in zoo
You can do it either by dimming the lights or by lighting the exhibit with red light. I have seen some deep water exhibits that had red light so the creatures could be seen.

10 years later: how to build a entire ocean
I think he did that video on his vacation
I was thinking the same when I first saw his announcement.
I was thinking.. watch this guy after 10 or 15 years talking about another bigger place (like somewhere at least near the ocean.. Lol).
After all the work Joey has put in I don't think he would want to think about this just yet 😂
5 years before that: I’m making my own lake
Think bigger. 50 years later: How to set up your own Neptune
Lately Joey seems happier and I love it when he does what he really enjoys, that’s what is all baout
Tour with Joey through his aquarium gallery 🤔 time to book a flight to Canada
Imagine he makes a video on how to build a diy plane to fly to the aquarium gallery
Ditto
This is the kind of video I've subscribed for.. knowledge bombs ✌🤟
Same :)
This is the joey I subscribed for. It's awesome when you are excited about a fish. Do the things you want to do.
I used to keep them and can confirm they're absolutely captivating to watch moving gravel around and creating little craters. Super cute and easy to breed too! Kind of miss them now after seeing the vid :)
Mine are spooked all the time when they see me.....I have to drop some food and run away or else they hide n their shells and wont won't eat if I stick around
@@fuaadharoon8436 I found it helps sitting in front for a while so they get used to you.
Oh wow, not often I see random overlap between two of my hobbies from youtubers! You ought to do a video on 3D printing aquarium safe decor.
Never would I of thought I'd see my two favourite youtubers also share my 2 favour passions... Fish keeping and 3d printing! You should so a video on printing aquarium accessories
@@Chopper849 I've seen it done with natural PET, but not sure I'd trust coloured filaments not to leach.
These shell dwellers get me fired up! I've always wanted to get shell dwellers since the first time you showed them!
Same here! Been a few years since he first talked about them. I got a tank, sand, shells. But hard to find fish around where I live. I am so close!!
Get them they are great fun and really easy to keep.
@@bigdreams5554 I love my Shelldwellers! Maybe I can give you some info on helping you source some? Where are you located?
... Rainbow fish, mollies and platies, snails, loaches, plecostomus, sharks and soon to be more! Thank you for creating your channel. You've brought out a piece of history that I didn't know I was interested in. My grandfather kept fish! - Emmanuel
I REMEMBER THE OLD VIDEO YOURE THE MAN WHO GOT ME INTO NEOLAMPROLOGUS SIMILIS.
Yeah me too. Finally got mine to spawn as well :) I'm keeping them with zebra danios tho in a 47 gallon(180liter)
Joey, U should get some of the best CZcams Aquascapers to do signature scapes just for ur gallery. At least a section for them. That would be dope!
I think he means professionals my good sir
watch his podcast
@@dantevonlucifer6766 I been watching it. I'm talking about collaborations with other dope known CZcamsrs who are known for scaping.
@@zebastianengelska6831 Nah. He is a good guy and knows about his fish and tanks, but there's people who are so much better at just giving the tank that aesthetics
@@zebastianengelska6831 His scapes are hardly even decent. He's the first to admit that, lol.
I would be excited to visit your new place with EMPTY tanks...Just to walk round with you excitedly explaining what's going in each tank. I've said this s few times but you really have given me the courage to setup my own tanks for my dad (who has dementia). We now breed betta fish and we are loving it. Keep being Authentic YOU ❤❤🇬🇧🇬🇧
man that would be a cool video just us watching him think out loud and seeing the madness as he jumps between the tanks ahah
I grabbed some multies after seeing your office tank video, just love them. It’s like watching a David Attenborough documentary, my own little piece of lake Tanganyika, just shells, algee and multies in my tank.
Top tip guys, I tried fluval bug bites with these guys and I’ve had even more breeding action (so many babies!!!)
I'm loving this in-depth format!
Multiple generations of Shell-dwellers on Government Assistance...lol
That’s such a cool experience. Wish I were close as we’d come check out your gallery.
These are my favorite fish! I’ve loved having them
Dude it's so cool that u're a fish keeper as well, please make a video on ur channel showcasing ur aquariums I would love that
The CZcams world is so random. I heard about this guy through Milan.
OMG!!! I'm setting up my shell dweller tank right now!!! It's my first tank and this fish started my interest in the hobby. Can't wait.
What ones are you getting?
This video broke my heart! I was super excited to pop in the new gallery! Joe looked so happy everytime he talked about it!
Nice to see you do what you love. Please keep showing us these things too in the future.
Your the one who got me into the shell dwellers and by far my favorite to keep .
Amazing. Thanks for the introduction.
I remember that tank... in fact, that’s pretty much when I started watching the channel regularly. I watched it a bit before but not much. I had no idea about shellies but decided I wanted them. I spoke to my LFS and he said he could get them so I set about saving for my second tank... a 40gall with a canister filter. A big step up for me. I was so excited when it all came about. Setting up the tank, cycling, water testing and then, finally, stocking. 8 multis went in. Scraped with a load of towering holey rock and a few dozen shells. They settled in, moved stuff and the started to breed.... and breed! I then put in 3 black calvus, almost as a kind of population control. 1 male, 2 females. There are 2 wild BN Plecos in there too... and a giant anubias. The plecos hide out in the rocks and come out in the early hours. The calvus are usually visible but are kept in their place by the multis. The multis have their territorial squabbles, battle with bits of debris that won’t stay where they put it, put themselves to bed in their shells, interact with the anubias, rocks, sand... each other... There is always something to watch. I simply love this tank and would never have known they existed. Thank you.
Your excitement is contagious Joey. Can't wait to see what the new space will bring.
To this day, I have a shell dweller aquarium because of your inspiration. They were super easy to find for me (luckily) and I have had multiple generations born in my care. They are by far my favorite fish that I've owned. Thanks again Joey!!
Somehow i got a feeling that you’re under a lot of stress joey, i just hope you’re doing well and please get some rest when you need to 🙏 one day I’ll visit your gallery in Canada, i live in indonesia and that’s pretty far 😬
Truly well done video. I like the specific focus, reliving the history, an improved understanding of their habitats. Awesome
Awww Joey, I'm so happy for you! This new gallery has got to be SO exciting to get into. It may just be me projecting, but you seem to have really reinvigorated your passion. Love this tank, and can't wait to see it all set up in the new space
You are one of the first people to really tell people to just leave them alone. I searched forever when I first got my similis trying to find out about gravel cleaning with no luck. So I looked at their natural landscape and decided to just leave it be. Wife doesn't like a "dirty look " but once I started leaving them alone, they started breeding. Keep it up!
I agree Joey, shell dwelling cichlids are the most interesting aquarium fish and are also really underrated. They are fascinating to watch and extremely intelligent for such a small fish. I just purchased some Similis 2 weeks ago. Love the extra barring they have on their face.
Love your tank mate ive had these little guys and they are awsome little characters thanks for your passion 👍
Your vid on these guys from 2016 inspired me to try and replicate it. I cleared a spot in my shop at work and set up a 40 gallon long, did the internal filtration, painted the back and sides black and started looking for the fish. While my tank ran through a fishless cycle for about 3 weeks I finally tracked down 6 multis that were all under 1/2" long. That was nearly 4 years ago. My population is always changing but stays about 40 ish. I have re homed a few to people that want to start their own colony but I absolutely love this tank. Extremely low maintenance, I will do a water change every 3 weeks, replce some filter floss, clean the front of the the glass but leave the sides and back alone. Since the tank is painted black on 3 sides you cant really see the algae that much. Thank you for the spotlight on these little amazing fish.
So happy for another shell dweller video. Was already planning on adding some to a future tank. Such a cool fish.
I was convinced I was going to get some shell dwellers after seeing your original video. I couldn’t get the same but I managed to get some multi’s which I have to say they have been my favorite fish to watch I’ve ever kept. Thank you!
It’s amazing to see how excited you are about this, can’t wait for the next few months watching this project develop!
This tank has been one of my favourites since its inception. I dont have the room for a tank quite that big in my current living situation but I plan to replicate it on a smaller scale with my 85L aqaurium, absolutely looks fantastic and like you said, it feels so much more natural
I like the long aquariums like that one.
This here. This is the type of videos I love! Feels like pre aquarium gallery and first 2 years of it! The King has found his mojo back
I LOVE !! This tank and can’t wait to see this when you open to the public
Wow! This is my favorite video of you so far! Do what you love Joey 👍🏻
Can’t wait for the new gallery, looking forward to seeing fish grow old and seeing them breed, lets us build a connection w the fish and keeps us coming back
My favorite tank you have hope to see a new one in the new gallery!!!!🙌
This is the type of tank I enjoy the most! A tank that resembles as close to a natural habitat as possible. I enjoy the natural tank to the 'pretty decorated' tank any day. Thank you Joey for sharing an awesome tank with some spectacular fish, narrated with your equally awesome and spectacular enthusiasm.
Loved your shell dwellers, I can’t find then in my town.
Can relate to this. You were the reason I got my first shell dwellers 🙌
I just had to stop bye as a new subscriber, new fish hobbyist musician and creator. I want you to know how much I really really appreciate you production value. You not only make a great dialogue and story but brother the audio, lighting and just chill nature was awesome 👏🏿 bravo I love it !!!!
Solid video. Game stepped up big time. Love the focus on the fish behaviour and habitats.
The new gallery might be the best thing to ever happen in the hobby can’t wait to come see it!!!!💯💯
These fish are so cool, I had no clue about these before he got them
I loved this video, one of my favorites so far, been watching for about 8-10 years.
I love that you’re back to doing your nerdy videos like this. I like them wayyy more than your regular videos. I sort of forgot that you’re super knowledgeable on fish, like I know you’ve got the gallery, but you just never really went in depth on stuff.
I really like the shell dwellers. Its amazing how much they interact with each family group.
This video was refreshing. So nice to see the old Joey back to talking about the stuff he loves to do. Keep it up Joey!
So much passion in your voice again!!! You do you Joey. Can’t wait for the gallery
Very interesting video. And educational. I have shellies but did not think of the predator dynamics. Thanks
Absolutely phenomenal Joey!!! Very educational and exciting. Your new gallery will be ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!!
i loved this tank when you made it. it's been one of my favorites of yours since
Love Shell Dweller's 🥰
Grate vid and give me more of this 😍😍😍
I love these types of videos. It will be cool to get a video like this for all the new fish in the new gallery.
Thank you! Great backstory!! These little tiny shell dwellers are some cool and definitely fascinating little fish!!
The frontosas are some of my favorite too!! I love this!!
I so enjoy your thoughtfulness with what you are doing when setting up your tanks... firstly for the fish and then for us to be able to enjoy them!!
This biotype is so exciting!! The interaction and behaviors you are explaining and showing to us is so interesting!! Thank you for sharing this!! WOW!!
I really enjoyed it!!!
Have a blessed day Joey!! 🙏🌿👑🐟👍💚
Love all your tanks and videos, Good luck with your new venture and can’t wait to see the build.
I really enjoyed this video!!! Very cool to hear all about the fishes and the aquarium
I've been watching your channel for about 5yrs now and I don't even have a tank anymore but I can't wait to see the new place up and running... wishing you the very best of luck with the new gallery.
Fantastic joey. Love the frontosa and their blueish fins, so pretty xxx
You're a good dude, joe. Definitely my go to when i need info.
Bro... when you said suppliers called and asked for a heads up when you drop a new fish on video....You have influenced the entire market for fishkeeping, and along with some other channels motivated me to now have a 20 and 55 gal that has helped me sooo much mentally and the like.. Thank you for that. The work you put in on the videos, the builds, the gallery 💪. Im gonna def make it there in person once ur up amd running
Beautiful fish , love the blue eyes on the shell dwellers
This video I Oct '16 had me buy some Neolamprolongus neofasciatus. It was cool that you showed me this wonderful breed of shellies.
I absolutely LOVE aquariums set up like with with basically their own natural ecosystem and a balance of species natural to each other
Such a beautiful tank and great DIY skillz
Definitely see a new found enthusiasm in our Joey these days, great to see. Going to be a great journey going forward
I just love this tank. I’m telling you now Joey when I get a place of my own my first aquarium in it will be a African shell dweller tank with Frontosa. It’s plain, simple but oh so beautiful! I love the algae on the sides and the natural look of it all and I would never be cleaning that flow pump until the plant stops the blades from spinning! Can’t wait to see these fish in real life in a 180G!
I could feel the energy and the hype. Awesome Joey!!!
I enjoyed this a lot because of the pure education right in front of your eyes. Awesome job, and excited for you with the gallery!
Lol. This is so funny. I have shell dwellers because of that video on the book shelf tank. I fell in love with them.
Hell yeah! Looks stunning and cant wait to see the XL versione of that tank 😃
Hey Joey! I have to admit it has been a while since I last watched but I'm back now. Don't change your format it works and has always been educational, here's hoping I can make it north to see the new gallery, I will be watching more often again like I did when I first started watching your channel, shame on me.
I love this journey you've been on. It was the original shell dwellers that led me to watching your channel in earnest. Looking forward to the new gallery! I will travel more than 3,000 miles to come see it!
Loved that you showed their natural habitat, very interesting.
I started watching for the diy projects… have stayed for the information and joy
That video was my favourite one you ever did. Obsessed with these fish and would LOVE to keep them
I loved this style of video the most! So informative and interesting. Keep doing videos like these :D
Just remember to do what you want to do, don’t let anyone else change that, and keep doing everything you do with these awesome fish.
Wow .what a beauty...so perfect setup for beautiful fishes ❤️❤️
I watched it back then and sometimes i watch it again. Why? Because its my favorite video of this channel.
ps. Baltic sea biotupe would be dope but you cant get those plants and fishes. Or european biotype with perch, roach or Zoarces viviparus its really unheard not hobby fish but its beautiful altest i like it.
Frontosa are such beautiful fish. My favorite cichlids by far.
That is one of the first videos I saw on your channel, so it’s crazy to think about it being a turning point in the channel!
I love the shell dwellers just an awesum fish, your tank kicks ass I could watch it all day!!
The first shell dwellers I ever saw was on Rachel Leary’s channel, I could watch them forever.
I like watching small fish like baby blue gill it’s just cool how they act and how they flare up real quick and other stuff
I LOVE the shell dwellers. Such an interesting and unique fish
I'm gonna need these next couple of weeks to fly by! So excited to see the public gallery get started. ❤❤
This is the type of video I live for, more......I need more of this!!!!
Your shell dweller tank is one of my all time favorites!!!!
Joey enjoying himself.. love it.
Love the fronts and the Tanganyikans. Really hoping we get some in depth series on this region, in the new gallery 🙏😃
I love the shell look you created.
That video was one of my favorites and the discuss video I have sell dwellers because of you thank you
Bro. Awesome video. In depth on just the shell dwellers and frontoza. Like you I could stare at it for a while. Can't wait to see what you have in store at Joey's aquarium gallery.
In the new gallery you should do a corner were you can lay or sit on the floor and it has stuff like bean bags and watch the aquariums because I love sitting of the floor next to my tanks and watching them for hours.
Great video Joey, I think maybe a taste of what we will get with the in person tours.
