  • An excellent afternoon spent at the busy station of St Albans City on the Midland Mainline where we see plenty of services from East Midlands Trains and Thameslink.
    This was the first time I had filmed at this station and I have to say I was really impressed with how its layed out, there's never more than a 10 minute gap between trains passing or stopping here, the overall aim of this visit was to catch more of the New class 700 units and its fairly safe to say I caught a fair few.
    My next station is Bushey on the West Coast Mainline.
    You can now find me on Facebook through the group Tornado922, there you will find regular updates, videos and photos from all of my goings on throughout 2016

    I have a couple questions about ticket purchasing for commuter trains in England (most likely because I live in the U.S): If you were to be someone who takes the train almost every day of the week, would a railcard be the best way to go? And how do those go, exactly? Do you put money onto the card, or is it like a membership where you renew it every month/year etc.?

    • @chris4484
      @chris4484 Před 7 lety

      And also, if you were to be someone who takes the train once a week, would you purchase an individual ticket every time?

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  Před 7 lety

      If you were to take the train every day and your ages 16-25 then we have this card called the 16-25 railcard that gives you 30% off your rail travel. Other than that our UK rail network is still very expensive so theres no real cheap way to get around unless you book your tickets online. If you were to buy them upfront they would be more expensive. Online booking has always been the best way to get train tickets here. Again if your above a certain age I cant remember the exact number, I think it's over 60 then you get 30% off. It's a card you renew every year for the cost of £30. I don't know what that would be in dollars. I hope that helps

      Alright, thanks. Just wanted to get to know about UK rail travel

    • @ChilternTransportProductions
      @ChilternTransportProductions Před 2 lety

      The railcard is not an electronic card but rather, a plastic card with your name, date of birth and a photo for ID purposes. You provide that along with £30 for 1 year or £70 for 3 years to get a 1/3 discount if you’re 16-25, over 60 and now also 26-30. You can also get a 16-17 saver which is basically a child rate (50% off) for 2 more years, region limited railcards as well as certain discounts for certain professions, namely the HM Forces one and a disabled railcard. Of course, if you’re employed by a passenger (not freight) company, then you get free travel within your company and a PRIV rate (75% off) everywhere else
      Hope this helps 👍
