  • If you’re a fan of Lems signature barefoot shoe the Primal 2, it just got a big update, so lets go through the changes.
The main change I see is in the stiffness of the sole. The outsole is stiffer, and the insole is slightly stiffer and thicker. You can see that in this video, where the Primal 2s are easy to fold up both length and width-wise. I can still fold the Primal 3s both ways, but there’s more resistance.

Thank you for the informative review! Sad to hear the Primal 3s are less flexible. Really appreciated that about the 2.

Why fix what isn't broken! I love my Primal 2s, this makes it sound like I'm going to hate the Primal 3s!

    this sucks man
damn. that really sucks. the primal 2's are my absolute all time favorite shoe for day to day use. I loved how flexible and minimalist they were while still giving me a ton of comfort
im too broke to stockpile them. idk if i should switch over to primal 3 or primal zen in the future. any ideas on which feels more flexible and light because those are my favorite things about the primal 2? also is the zen zero drop?

Yes zen are zero drop. It's specified on the website.

At this point, the Zen are a little bit more flexible, but they are a little thicker. I know they made these changes to address some issues, but I do hope that they come out with something in the future that is more minimal and closer to the Primal 2s.

So basically the primal 3 is the zen. Too Bad, as the 2s are super comfortable for me, but the zen hurts.

Great video, thanks for sharing! Can you confirm if the toe box is wider on the primal 3? They look a bit wider in the toe box when you placed them side to side

I don't think they're wider, it's just that the Primal 2s were a size smaller. They're both using Lems' widest last.

Do the primal 3 still have the wobble? Primal 2 seem like they sit on an axis and wobble, and the heel doesn’t seem stable.

How do they stack up against the primal zen? Any insight would be appreciated

The Primal Zen have a slightly thicker stack height (11mm for zen and 9.5mm for Primal 3), but the Zens are actually a bit more flexible. I think that's because they used a stiffer compound for the Primal 3 sole. Primal 3s are also narrower/more fitted around the heel.

It looks like a primal zen jr

It sounds like it turned out like that a bit unintentionally. Hopefully the next update will feature a more minimal/flexible sole.
