Princess Peach's Castle (Gamecube Tech Demo) Running on Hardware - Normal Mode

- Hey! This is a video of a GameCube tech-demo. It was released to show the power of the Gamecube to developers and was included in early versions of the Dolphin SDK. The demo shows off effects such as bump and shadow, local lighting and Anti-Aliasing.
At 5:36 you can see an unreleased pink Gamecube.
This was running natively on the Wii and music you hear is from the demo.
More info:
The tech demo has 2 modes, normal and auto. For this video I showcased the manual mode and this is where you can control the arrow. In auto mode the demo plays like a video, going threw the different rooms. You can also access the debug settings and change the how the GameCube renders the game and more!
Thanks for watching ;D
If you wondering what that blue and red bar does, it shows you the CPU and RAM the Cube/Wii is using. - Hry
This is like one of those weird dreams you have as a kid where nothing bad happens but it's still scary because it takes something you're familiar with and makes it feel strange and foreign
Why do I relate but hate this comment because of how much it relates.
I really want this to be popular
i had a dream that i swear took place in this castle a year or two before i first watched this tech demo, and it did really scare me lol
@@yellowmarioflexing8626 Yea its so fascinating and eerie, it feels so good
I had a dream that SpongeBob and Mr Krabs were made of PNGs and SpongeBob got abducted by a pirate
I like how the arrow transforms into a dolphin at the beginning, since the Gamecube was codenamed Dolphin.
Wow, i didn't catch that. Great thinking!
Yeah just become a dolphin for a second
So, maybe that's why the GameCube and Wii emulator is called that way.
@@RobloxGuest768 Yes, that's exactly the reason. 🙂
THIS MAKES SO MUCH SENSE NOW I KNOW WHY THE EMULATOR IS CALLED DOLPHIN
Strangely, even though I've never seen and heard those places and musics before, they're so familiar and nostalgic to me.(especially the entrance and the dome.) It's like I've been or heard in my old dreams...
Funnily enough, I feel the same way. Maybe just because it represents the old GameCube era very well?
@@Werten25 Indeed. I've never had Gamecube either when I was young, but the 2000s' things always give me a special feeling.
Same.
It’s a reminder of an era in the sound and visual department
Its not that deep it looks like a nostalgic place so your brain makes u feel nostalgia for it niggas need to stop acting like nostalgia is some otherworldly godly feeling
Okay... I *LOVE* the presentation on this tech demo. The interactivity, the way it shows how powerful the GameCube was for its time... it just amazes me in any way I can imagine. God bless you, Nintendo. God bless you.
This is literally the coolest interpretation of peaches castle I've seen yet, how am I only now learning this exist?!
How the hell did Nintendo manage to make me love a Red Arrow.
I'm surprised that a low-poly version of this hasn't been used in B3313, or anywhere else. It just sits there, collecting dust, wondering how it's one of the not much Mario stuff that hasn't been talk about a ton.
It's music is used in B3313 area Parallel Lobby
@@SysDataSoftOfficalBut only the music. I haven't seen anyone reference the weird rooms
I'm gonna be honest, I didn't even know this. Is it something based on an official concept? Purely fanmade?
Only Nintendo could make an arrow loveable.
The fact that it looks abandoned while being so cheery and magical is very bittersweet as an adult. It vaguely reminds me of "The Backrooms". My inner child is very excited to see this magical world with fun colors for the first time, but the adult side of me knows it's a computer simulation that we can end at any time. Just because it's a simulation doesn't mean there's no magic in the experience of it, though
The backrooms aren't cheery or magical.
@@k-leb4671 the backrooms are so magical 🪄✨🪄🪄✨🪄
Your itchy ears are yearning for spirituality
I fleshed out the little arrow guy into my own little character because I loved him so much
I'm insane.
epic
pls i wanna seee
@@wahoox6484 I gotta share sometime
At some point in gaming history, this was the best in gaming engineering. I'm impressed by how far we've come in such a short time
Im still impressed by that tech demo
And it just keeps getting more and more impressive
6:23 man, that atmosphere and music from the "Metal Mario room" goes so hard!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 it's screaming 90s
That arrow entering door animation gets me every
time!
Cute eh, had lots of charm
This video just makes me want MORE. i want a mario game that looks exactly like this
super mario 64 is close
@@jytvrealthis is like Mario 64 but you're half dreaming
I love the liminal feeling that the castle and the music give, it's like a place I have dreamed of or that I feel like I've been to before
As much as I love Super Mario Sunshine, I kinda wish we got a true sequel to Mario 64 on the GameCube with this as the hub world
you mean mario 128? yeah its sucks it got scrapped, but at least pikmin, twlight princess and mario galaxy have borrowed things from 128
I honestly feel if this was released, it's have such a Luigi's mansion feel for it. It sucks we couldn't see a final project, but I'm so happy we got Mario Sunshine instead. That game is very dear to me
Rare footage of Super Mario 128
Interesting...
I like some of music in this.
This tech demo feels relaxing...
except when the arrow hops up the stairs.
AND THE FRANTIC MUSIC IN THE CINEMA THEATER WHICH I REALLY LIKE TOO.
beautiful graphics...kinda makes me sad
someone please make this a garys mod map.
I was planning to ask that as well. :D
It's been eight years, When is someone going to do it?
Me: Ummm peach... There's a creepy arrow thing floating around your castle.
Peach: oh that's just mario
Me: O.o okkayyyy thennnn.....
Princess Daisy • Rσyαl Deījι Hιme χ She seems...surprisingly cool with it.
Truly Princess Daisy Greetings, young princess. How are you today?
@@kailegoh2308 Maybe she was kindapped by Wario...
THE MUSIC IN THE MAIN AREA!!!! THAT'S THE PARALLEL LOBBY IN B3313!!!!!
That's actually quite impressive.
The PS2 couldn't do these effects.
The PS2 had no fixed function normal mapping support so, unfortunately no it couldn't
i had both and gamecube was clearly superior just have a look to rebel strike at gc (not in emulator)
ast r I googled and it looks like the PS2 can have a normal mapping effect and was used in a matrix game.
yes but that was via software and looking awful by the way , that game was so bad (enter the matrix i suposse) gc had the effect integrated in the chip
Too bad most gamecube games didnt use some of these effects.
I really miss this era of Nintendo. I loved how the early Gamecube days had a style that showcased a great blend of fantasy and semi realistic visuals. It had a great range of lighting and shading effects, along with a lot of colorful looking locations. Ever since the Wii age, Nintendo games have been relying too much on experimental and plain/cartoony looking art styles. Most of them are too bright looking, and rely on too many basic colors, instead of the wide range of colors Gamecube offered. I was hoping the Wii U would finally bring the Gamecube style of graphics back to life with the power of stunning HD visuals, but once again, Nintendo went with mostly simple looking graphics for most of their games. I loved the look of the gamecube Mario games a lot more than the Wii and Wii U era. The only Mario games on Wii U that looked great were Mario Kart 8 and Mario Tennis Ultra Smash. I would say Super Mario 3D World looked great, but it only looked great during certain levels. Most levels relied on too many bright green colors, simple textures, and too much overuse of bloom lighting. However, Mario 3D World did have some stunning looking levels and effects, if only the whole game had a consistent quality of good looking visuals, instead of constantly jumping between boring and stunning.
Even Super Mario Galaxy looked bland in areas. While it did have a great use of lighting effects, shading effects, reflection, and water, a lot of the game stil looked a bit simplified. For instance, the grass in many levels had a fuzzy looking texture, which looked odd, grass should look lush, not spongey. Mario Galaxy had great visual effects, but a lot of the level designs didn't fit with the advanced lighting and shading effects.
At least Switch seems to be on the right track with bringing visual quality back to the Mario games. Mario Odyssey looks like it will have a good mix of fantasy and semi realism. That's what I've been wanting in a Mario game for a long time, to see Mario go through more than just simple looking level designs. Mario Odyssey won't rely on Mario just running through cartoony looking worlds, or too realistic looking worlds, it settled on a mix, and that's what I like about it.
Anything on the Wii (Mario Galaxy, Brawl, Prime 3) looked better than what the GameCube could have offered.
Cartoony nintendo games>realistic nintendo games
Mario Odyssey is Mario version of Sonic World Adventure A.K.A Sonic Unleashed. It's a remake of 2008 game that tricks people it's new.
TA-PAB Bangkok Uhh, no?
@@DonkeykongSw2 what
the impact this demo has had on me is indescribable
This can be played on a regular GameCube with Datel SD Media Launcher
or on a Wii with Nintendont
1:58 I never saw this used in ANY gamecube games. The first time I saw that type of specular mapping was in mario galaxy on wii.
...this is the first time I stumble into this oddity. What is this?...
GameCube World... Hmm, looks like a game that's meant to display the capabilities of the GameCube (known as the Dolphin during development, hence the dolphin motif everywhere), starting you off in Peach's... _Castel._ Well whoops 😅 still, how cool is that?
And every area is focused on some different technical aspect of the GameCube, like the big textures with high resolutions, shading and lighting effects, even more technical stuff like anti-aliasing!.. tho I'm not really sure how that is showcased in the Hangar, ngl.
I love it when games do that for their respective consoles, it reminds me of Astro's Playroom for the PS5, though that was way more of a game, and also a bit more of a trip down memory lane too, a love letter to the history of the console, while this is more of a straight technical showcase but in a more creative and hands-on format.
The arrow is so fun I loved the bouncing part
BOING *transforms into dolphin*
**3 months later*
😳 What if we kissed in the Antialiasing Hangar 😳
Then that would be a very antialiased kiss
@@supermarioVB64you're still alive
@@shyguy85 yep, thank you for the wellness check
If you listen closely when the arrow tries to leave a room, the knocks sound like a part of the fever music from dr.mario
Imagine how Mario 64 would look if it came out on the Gamecube.
0:02 Ah I remember demo games is welcome to gamecube world late 2000s nostalgia overlord!
Wow this looks great!
Pretty amazing that this looks better than most Wii games.
Too be fair, this was made to look good and be nothing more.
it's beautiful
This Nintendo GameCube tech demo (Peach's Castle v1.08) was dated around December 13rd, 2000, and Luigi's Mansion was released on September 14th, 2001
I don't think Luigi's Mansion is a GameCube launch title
And it felt like releasing horror games as the launch titles for videogame consoles is not good!
I like how all the music is dreamlike, bordering on the same vibes as Yume Nikki, but then you get in the theater and the music immediately becomes Clown Falling Down The Stairs
i like how the intro to the foyer/entrance theme sounds vaguely like the intro of dire dire docks/ jolly roger bay from sm64
Thank you for the ISO. It actually work on the last dolphin version. ^^
thanks for uploading the iso :D
even today this is groundbreaking stuff
Wow this is old
This makes me feel weirdly nostalgic.
Now somebody out there must make a SM64 hack Gamecube render of Super Mario 64 with the models from Super Smash Bros Melee and Luigi's Mansion and probably call it "Super Mario GameCube" or "Super Mario '01" ASAP!!!!
red arrow is peak character design
This would be an awesome RPG game!
I think the lobby of this castle might of been scraped and remodelled into the foyer from Luigi’s mansion GC
Nice! i got this demo tested on a GameCube Emulator called "Nintendon't" in the vWii on Wii U and Dolphin Emulator it works fine.
GameCube Tech DemoTM and (C) Nintendo co ltd. all rights reserved
@MrWeirdGuy Remember, That this was made just to strictly show off the power of the GameCube and to show developers the graphic capabilities of the system. That's way you don't see any NPC or CPU and the object you control is very simple and probably contains only a few polygons.
It would be interesting to see in 3D!, since the game-cube did have some sort of 3D capability.
I love the arrow, put it in Smash please.
Ah gamecube the second part of my childhood
1:54 Kinda reminds me of Riddle Tower from Paper Mario TTYD for some reason
I wonder if this inspired that.
I think it still holds up today
that is vary neat :)
Cool!
Hello! and I just linked the iso it to my description;) it already has the "magic word" added on so it should work right out of the gate with both dolphin emu and wii/gc
Np^^ Thanks for watching! and it from site called ThePurpleCube not sure if its around anymore, but you should check out Assmbler games and make an account there. They have lot of interesting betas for download. Also I found the game cube service disk iso online a while ago, pm me if you want a link to that.
holy shit i can feel the frame drops even on the wii!
I didn't even know this existed until now
Nice music
I wish I was born earlier JUST to have a GC.
Seeing how powerful it really is makes me want to sell my 3DS XL for it.
omg i want to live there
That metal mario room scream frutiger aero
Np^^ and thanks for the sub;D
bumpmaps and shadows could happen on the cube, aside from lack of knowledge on the SDK, i wonder why more games didn’t use these features?
only games i know use some kind of normals or bumps are godzilla DAMM and battalion wars.
i’d love to know any more games that use any type of these advanced features like on the xbox.
Dat performance meter, it never seems to go over 25%...
Thinking how small, low cost and low energy console GC was makes me intrigued about what the Wii U will be capable of.
welp
I don't know if you'll see this, but how was the Wii U to you?
the iso for this game doesn't work on dolphim 3.0 (the only version that works on my pc) what should i do?
edit: it works on whinecube
This is actually pretty impressive for the time. Gamecube really was a powerfull machine.
The Waluigi dumb name
Man, this could become a game.
Luigi Mansion showcase most of these effects, and also had dust physics and particles so good and way ahead of it's time .
this graphics looks like randor from the nineties but works in real time
Oh the blue bar is the cpu and red is showing the ram usage
This kind of feels like a cut prologue for Luigi’s Mansion.
there might not be anything sinister here but im still getting some petscop vibes
Hm, where exactly did you get this? I would love to rip this stage from whatever rom/iso its from. Is it like a disc or something?
Why did it constantly switch into wire-frame for split-second intervals?
is the blue bar the cpu or ram meter?
Hi, can i ask where i can find this ISO of this Tech demo? ^^
A mario game in this style would be so eerie, but so perfect
yep
but thats already exists, super mairo 64 has the same style as this demo but with worse graphics
I wouldn't lie when I'd say I'd rather have luigis mansion on wii and this on gc, looked like a great game
yea, it would be such a realistic game that would feel like an experience
Can You Tell Me How You Played This? Please? I Really Want To Know. Please I Really Want To Play It.
ah I got good news for you;P This demo was never made onto a disk it was just a small teck demo nintendo created internally. To show what the game cube was capable of to developers, meaning this teck demo was included in early ver of the dolphin sdk and only to be played on dev kits.Luckily the sdk got leaked and hackers were able to convert it into a playable iso. If you want it just reply ill send it to you via pm.
"Peach Castel Entrance"
My PC sucks. I Wish i can get a GameCube emulator without it being so slow. This TechDemo looks fun to Look at. There is no Possible way i could actually count How many Coins in the Room at 7:21. Why would they Call it How Many Coins? it Looks harder to count them than The Wario Coin minigame from SM64DS. lol.
@mspeter97 ah sorry i wasn't able to reply to your first comment and oh the reason why it wouldn't load is because it missing the "magic work" at the 0x1c offset since it was developed an ndev. ill pm you the link with the "magic word" added;P
@WVI ya xD they also spelled it wrong on the map to:P
Could I get the iso for this? I know a large group of people at the gc forever forums that would die to get their hands on this.
hi! and yup I can send you one, it might be a little bit because I have to hunt and upload my iso to mediafire xD since the other one I used to hand out was hosted on mega upload and yaa.. you know what happened there lol. Also really? I thought majority people had this especially on that site. Hopefully they can extract the goodies from this iso to, I bet theirs a lot of cool beta stuff hiding in this.
How did you get this to work on your Wii? When I try to load it in Nintendont, my Wii automatically shuts down. The ISO is placed in USB:/games/NDDEMO [00 E01]/game.iso. My other games work in Nintendont, and I can load Peach's Castle in Dolphin, but for some reason, it won't load in Nintendont.
Maybe check if you have unlocked disk speed unchecked, the fast write speed may make it crash
*SUPER STRETCH* What if this had something to do with the then Cancelled Super Mario 64 2? And maybe 128 was juat an odd Minigame? IDK
how did you get this? i would like to try it out
*Super Mario 64 - Mario walks into the castle everything is wire frame*
"Mama MIA oh no" *passes out*
This sounds so much like Super Mario Sunshine or Super Mario Galaxy music.
Why does this seem familiar
