    when you have done the trace and are figuring out what is a image or a path (trace) look at the info bar (the one under the colour swatches at the bottom) it will tell you what you have selected - path is the tracing and image is the image.
    once you have welded the triangle to the rectangle and deleted those extra nodes (29:41), select those three nodes and then use the icon 8th one in from the left on the contextual menu bar (the one that changes when you select different tools above the work area), that will make them an 'sharpe' angle and will give straight lines
    inkscape normally has several ways to do the same thing. another way to make the stick is after you draw out the rectangle, go path>object to path (or select just the rectangle and go path>union). this will make it a path, then select the bottom two nodes and click the + button on the right to add a node between them, then drag this node down to form the point. then do the union (weld). Again you can also do the add node bit after you weld the rectangle to the gnome background as well as after you weld the background and rectangle it will all be a path

    I appreciate the information I have learned in this video. You’ve explained everything so well. Unfortunately though, it wasn’t quite what I was looking for this week and was wondering if you might be able to make a video or even explain this dilemma for me. I want the pieces of my svg file to connect flush with one another after cutting on my laser. I don’t want a gap between all the pieces with a black offset. This is how I’ve been making the characters on the signs I make up until now. But now I want to give them a more realistic look like how the pieces look when something is cut with a scroll saw. I know how to take into consideration the .006” kerf that my laser will leave on my pieces, but other than sitting there and connecting each individual node of my piece’s strokes to match the strokes of the pieces surrounding each and every piece of the svg, I have no idea how else to do this. Does this make sense? I want the edges of each piece to sit flush with the pieces that they’re connecting to with no gap in the middles. Any chance you can make a video on how to do this? I have been SEARCHING CZcams for this information for a week now and I’ve found NOTHING to help me with obtaining these results. It’s all SVGs with a black offset to give the upper layer pieces outlines once assembled.

    I'm using Inkscape in Linux, but it should be the same. I'm seeing reverse colors, Meaning my outline of the gnome that you see black and a border that's white, I see the opposite. After 17:28 in your video. Left image is the only one different. Any idea what I'm doing wrong or is it a setting? I tried 'extensions-color-negative' but that makes the whole thing white. I tried grouping the image and the same thing happened. Thank you for the help. I'm awaiting my xTool F1 and S1 which is what I plan on using for this tutorial.

    Every time I open a file I want to include in my design in Inkscape, it opens up in a new window, and not on the canvas Im working on.

    • @ashleefalco
      @ashleefalco  Před rokem

      right, because you're opening up a new file. If you want to merge 2 files together. Copy the just opened design and paste it into the previous file you were working on. easy fix.

    Thank you for the video. I am using version 1.2.2 and I can not get the "break apart" to work. Any suggestions?

    • @ashleefalco
      @ashleefalco  Před rokem

      Are you only doing keyboard short cuts? Maybe try going up to Path then Hit Break Apart. If you're not doing keyboard short cuts try doing: command, shift, K.
      If the first way works, make sure your caps lock isn't on. I've noticed that sometimes keyboard shortcuts don't work when your caps lock is on.
      If that doesn't work, I suggest closing out of the program all together and then restarting it. Sometimes Inkscape gets a little wonky and needs a good restart to help it's out.

    I feel like the version of Inkscape that I downloaded for Mac, is not up to date. Things do not work like they are supposed to and it keeps freezing on me and I have to force quit the application. Frustrating when I am trying to learn this, in order to make and sell my own SVG files.

    • @ashleefalco

      Hi Jenifer! The downfall of using a free program, there are glitches. Also, if could be me or you that have an outdated version. I have 2 design laptops and Inkscape is different on both, which is odd, but going back to the free program comment. It is what it is.

    • @ashleefalco
      @ashleefalco  Před 10 měsíci

      Sounds to me like you didn't do the trace bitmap correctly, or that you didn't delete the correct layer. If you aren't able to break apart anything tells me that you don't have the correct layer. If you can't break apart, then you won't be able to thicken the lines.
