Eddie, the last time I was in Pattaya I stayed in the Golden Sea. To cut a long story short, while there I had an appendicitis and was rushed to hospital where I stayed for 4 days. After being admitted I realised that I had left my safe open with all my money in it (lesson learned, keep your safe locked even when you are in your room,). Also, my wallet and laptop were left on the desk. I was convinced it would all be gone. But, when I returned, they had removed all my valuables and kept them in the hotel safe for me. And, I had left 2000 bath in a drawer that was still there when I returned to the room. Amazing honesty and typical of so many Thai people. Fantastic

Eddie I’d call it a bad relationship with alcohol!! Been in the same boat as you for over 30 years. There’s no getting away from it mate. No matter how you want to sugar coat it. It goes from months of sobriety, to a few beers a few more . Then before you know it your back on it. 🤷‍♂️Good luck mate!!

You're in denial Eddy. The longer you stick around these party towns, eventually they will suck you in, particularly if you don't have a lot else to do. Rationalizing having one or two beers on a regular basis is not ok. It's only a matter of time until you let your guard down and you'll be back to your old habits. I know that's not what you wanted to hear but I've been there. As I mentioned in your last video, the quicker you make the transition from "tourist" mode to "resident" mode with a daily routine, the easier it will be for you to avoid the temptation of slipping back into abusing the sauce.
"Nobody wants to be on camera..." Judging from the brief glimpse of the 75+ crowd hanging out at the pool, it works both ways...we didn't want to see them either! Thanks for the favour.
Nice hotel. Incredible value. Spent two weeks in Chiang Mai in the Nimman area last year and no way you could get anything close to that there.

Alcohol is completely fine in moderation. I have the misfortune of having several hardcore alcoholics in my family/peer group and was one of them myself for a couple of decades. I quit temporarily about 10 years ago and what really struck me when I quit was I noticed how the people around me behaved. The people I would normally associate with would get sloppy drunk and would be completely insufferable. I stopped being a heavy drinker around that time and barely touch the stuff today. Nothing is more pathetic in my opinion is people in their 50s, 60s and beyond being a sloppy drunk.

The problem you have in tourist places is people come over for 2 weeks holiday and get pissed every night but if you are living there full time you cannot afford to do that in many ways, monetary and health wise. Personally I would allow 2 nights a week where you go out have a few beers and then go home. Your health is the most important thing you have as it affects all aspects of your life. I gave up beer for a year and I found myself eating chocolate and other junk and I realized it's not necessarily the alcohol but the sugar and I think most of us are addicted to sugar as it's in everything and is more addictive than heroin. Good luck with your adventures!!

Will be honest from my point of view it’s not a “strange relationship” but absolutely text book! I think u know genuinely Ed that the booze is just straight up poison mate! It’s a slippery slope, you talk the talk of “control” mate but believe me I’ve been where you are several times and told myself the same stories. I knocked it on the head finally 5 years ago after several sober stints lasting months and months at a time and if I was completely honest I knew deep down I was letting myself down. I was really worried for u when u said you were managing it as from watching your vids a long long time now I can see myself in you. I have all the respect in the world for u mate and expect push back from my comments here but I just sincerely wish the absolute best for you. Take care Ed

Ed, one of the reasons I personally like your channel, is that you have the personality to pull it off, WITHOUT having to film the nightlife or the girls, or people that don't want to be filmed, and in the same vein, you also don't have to be a raging booze bag to do your vlogs either as a result of your personality. I think it's respectful that you don't feel like you have to be cringey and film the nightlife when people don't want that, especially now that these are your new digs, you don't need that either. I like Side Trip Life and channels like yours for example just showing us around, more than good enough for me.

I'm wishing you luck man, I've been watching Pattaya video's on CZcams for a couple of years since I retired and one popped up on the browser about retiring in the town. Believe it or not I'd never heard of it before!
Very sensible attitude to drinking, I played in a good little rock band years back with a top grade singer, I was the guitar player, I found out that no matter how talented you are there's a co-ordination limit to good performance. So I always played sober, maybe half a pint. The singer was brilliant up to 2 pints of Guinness but any more and we were a pub band, really sad!
Although I retired, pension and all I still get some private work, so the likely hood of Pattaya is small, perhaps a holiday. I'm enjoying your stories, you had honourable mention by welsh boy webby in one of his shows. I'm enjoying Everything Pattaya and Buzzin' Pattaya and cheep dave. There's quite a few of you guys out there, all different, There's also TNT Tim Newton and of course Steve Rosse of Turtle beech. Best wishes from a cold England

It seems like you don’t have a useful interest in life that occupies your time. Apart from making CZcams content to subsidise your lifestyle, films aimed at like minded elderly men that have the time to spend watching repetitive diatribes and Pattaya street scenes. Living alone out of a suitcase in a red light district , only having casual acquaintances with mostly pot belly drinkers in bars , and having so much idle time is a recipe for gradual self harm, a few over a long period day after day add up and can end up with all manner of older age health issues.
My advise would be to move into an apartment. Find an interesting pass time ( called a ‘pass time’ for a reason.) Use a swimming pool to swim building up the amount of lengths daily as a fitness routine, can’t swim use a gym. If you can’t find friends outside of the tourist bars one way to enjoy your own company will be easy in Thailand , get stoned. Finally most men that visit Pattaya in the elderly / divorced / single group end up supporting a bar girl and her family, and that is a fact because they keep their brains in their trousers.

I realized bargaining with myself about alcohol was a slippery slope. "Just one beer, one drink every once in a while," I'd say, then logic would melt away. "Enjoy life!" I'd tell myself, and give in. Finally, I had to stop cold turkey. Every morning, I start with the promise: "No drinking today." Age catches up, you know? Hey Eddie. I’ve turned 57 and ‘somehow’ I’ve managed to stop drinking. My goal is not to quit for life but I just say I’ll stay sober for today/tonight. I spent a month in the Philippines in August and I’m heading back for another month this Saturday. I tried AA and got sober for three months. That’s the longest since I was a teenager! I think for me the hangovers now are just too brutal as I’ve gotten older. I only drink beer but even four or five ruins the next day. Maybe the saying ‘your poison is your cure’ has merit. I’ve also lost weight and discovered I have a lot more time available as a result. Again I’m not going to put on added pressure telling myself that I’ve quit for life because it’s not a moral issue but a health one for me. Thanks for sharing mate. 🙏

I watched endless documentaries on it, until I couldn’t honestly go near it anymore. The social conditioning, especially being from the U.K., where one’s abstinence is practically viewed as an affront to all that is British, really does take a while to shift. But, the reality is, alcohol really is an awful thing, and it quite literally poisons us. I really hope you manage to find a path to continued freedom from its clutches, Eddie mate. I looked at Golden Sea last year, with a view to long term renting. 20k/month in the first building.
The outdoor terrace bar was previously a dumping ground, much better use of space. The gold painted dolphins and durian are new additions too. The reception area is very smart and the rooms I viewed very clean, if a little dated. Money is clearly being spent on public areas, I wonder if guest room improvements will follow?
As for the alcohol issue, I consider myself very fortunate that I can take it or leave it. I have beer in the fridge at condo, but never drink alone. Purely for nocturnal guests🤣🤣

I and im sure many others would be interested and intrigued on a detailed story from you in relation to your move. For instance did you sell all your belongings, furniture, tools, kitchen ware, clothes. What have you kept? Photo albums some clothes. I think it would be a really intersting insight and would love to listen

Hi Eddy, have you managed to find any ginger beer over here ? When you started drinking Ginger beer it reminded me of when I was a kid and my mates mum used to make some lovely stuff. I moved here 4 months ago and recently discovered a recipe and I'm going to give it a go.... Stick to the beer...nothing stronger and no late nights with days off it and you will be ok. Welcome to retirement and Thailand.

I have been very fearful of alcohol, my whole life because I come from a family of alcoholics. alcohol even killed my sister and led to the death of my father. So I just do simple thing I only drink when I go out I don’t drink at home. I limit myself to two drinks after that I’m drinking, non-alcoholic beverages. I never let people pressure me into drinking more than the two drinks.
I’ve also learned sir, that sometimes you have to change the people that you hang out with and the environment you hang around when you quit drinking. It’s a lifestyle change and I’ve lost a lot of friends because of it. I hope you stay sober, because alcohol is a demon

I will hopefully watch this vid when I get home, IF I survive the mile walk home as UK now deemed as a target from much of the world....Blimey Ed, don't you feel safer in Thailand???? Only you know you mate but hopefully you don't go back to your old ways or you will not last long in Thailand. You've done so well. You've had a couple of weeks drinking now would be the time to start drinking less or stopping for a while. Not drinking in Thailand is a massive test for one's character. Some can do some can't. You need friends away from the nightlife. Start looking at other things to do at night. Good luck eddy I wish you the best 🙏

Steady, you know Pattaya has a great AA Program, meetings with guys just like you. I have been sober for almost 38 years and like you I totally enjoy traveling and women, you don't need to drink to enjoy your life. Also, retire and have drinking your plan is a plan for death, your better than that. There are always periods of control followed by periods of no control. I have lived in Pattaya for a year.

Eddie try the non alcoholic Heininken 0-0 taste's just like the real thing , I stopped drinking alcohol on 18th Jan last year when I was I Phuket after I got a bad chest pain that scared me to death, I spent the previous 17 days drinking 12 to 12 everyday on the beer and loved it , but on the18th I got a very scary shock and in three days time it will be exactly one year since I had a beer , and I don't miss it one bit , just try one bottle of Heineken 0-0 I think you might be quietly surprised , good luck

As i have said to you Eddy over a year ago Alcohol in moderation indeed.Me being a Paramedic I see and deal with a lot and in the end most people say to me who need help should have stopped years ago and they have paid the price.People I have helped in the past come back on the radar and need help but then its to late like smokers a lost cause in the end they live on oxygen tanks as they suffer from emphysema and say should have given up years ago to late.

It's difficult to be social and sober in a place where there are a lot of guys with nothing to do but get hammered every day! I've never been a big drinker, I drink one small can of beer every night around 6pm and it's only when I venture south to the coast that I go beyond that. I also don't have much of a tolerance for alcohol these days so, a few beers in the evenings when I'm on the coast is enough. But, it really all boils down to self discipline and moderation. Best of luck with your journey.

when i was struggling with my drinking it was very similar. on again off again and not feeling well from it. It talks about this in the AA big book, "control" drinking- hard to do. Even when I stopped for a while going back to it, made matters worse. Finally I stopped for good and have not had a drink in 14 years. Thank God - it just got better and better for me the longer i stopped. It is a miracle in my life to be free of it. Just for me, not everyone feels that way. But for me it was the best choice I could have made.

Your in Dodge in a Hotel room. Once you get out of Dodge it won’t be as bad. Then once you set up for 6 months in SR or wherever it gets better if you don’t skimp on accommodation & get somewhere your comfortable & feels like a home. You will have your computer set up etc. You get into a bit of a route. There’s plenty to do to get some exercise. The internet alone can keep your brain occupied so boredom isn’t an issue. Loneliness can be though but a lot of that depends on your character. You can make Vid calls to keep in touch with family & friends back & just how great is that when we remember overseas calls costing an arm & a leg. You get & about for your exercise walks or push bike ride you get to know the people at your regular coffee stops & the girls were you get your laundry done. You go out for a drink 2 nights a week or whatever like going pub back home & just like the pub back home you meet people. You start to appreciate the little things.

I went a year with no beer, felt great and loads of weight lost in fact 4 stone, then I started just having a few and in no time I was back on it, the only way is to not drink as it will start again, I went out all the time as I love being out and I drink pop or water, and in no time the weight has gone, I’m fit and I’m 55, not had a beer for 3 years but still have the pleasure of seeing my mates.
Your right about nighttime vlogs they are 2 a penny and there is nowt to see.

Don't have to quit completely. Couple of beers at night - no problem. Coke Zero and Singha Soda water with lime during the day when you're walking around in the heat works best. It's easy. You'll keep losing weight and develop your strength /stamina for more important things. You're doing great. Love seeing people make the right decisions with their lives.

2 beers a night goes against doctors' recommendations. 14 beers is 28 units of alcohol I think, and the recommended limit is 14 units. And they also recommend that that you don't have alcohol every day, as you need to let your system have a rest from it. Don't hate the messenger. Peace and love
