Predatory Publishers and Conferences: Knowing the Risks and Avoiding the Hazards

Abstract: Predatory journals, publishers and conferences are those that use devious practices to solicit your scholarly work, and tempt you to publish or present in venues that may jeopardize your credibility as a serious scholar. Because their methods are evolving over time, it is helpful to have a refresher on how they operate and what resources exist to help you spot and avoid them.
Bio: Sally Thorne, RN, PhD, FAAN, FCAHS, FCAN, a Professor in the School of Nursing and Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs in the Faculty of Applied Science at UBC, has extensive Editorial Board experience and has been Editor-in-Chief for the journal Nursing Inquiry since 2011. As member of the International Academy of Nursing Editors (INANE), she has regular access to insights around publishing practices as they change over time.
