  • The County threatened me with Jail for a Pile of dirt- what will they do when they find out what I did next. The Government is scrutinizing what I am doing.

It is sad that we are told that we are in a free country that, we are so controlled by our government, and have to find loop holes because people cannot mind their own business

25 years ago we had a 12 by 24 custom built "tarp garage", 12" taller than stock with a wooden structure that my neighbor used for his boat storage and sold to us. The roof and sidewalls were one piece and layed on the ground an extra 12" for 3ft by 8inch sandbags to lay on. Same at the back. It lasted 2 years plus 14 yrs with us till a tree branch destroyed it. It never moved an inch all those years. It was on a solid gravel base.

Suggestion for the “roll up” doors and windows. Fold them in half a couple time and then roll and secure. Much easier to manage!

You need to put in those cross bars and put some eyelets on the post and tie them down to the equipment inside because of the wind.Another great video Stan the Man

Thanks Stanley for showing how messed the state and local government of Minnesota. We all don’t live in the twin cities. But we must follow their rules. A lot people from other states don’t understand is that all taxes we pay every year on our property and house and school. This does not go to local school district but it goes to the cities! I’m from north west Minnesota small community we get half per student in money as the cities dose !

Stan I recommend pouring a small anchor to hold it down like a bag of concrete in each corner .i have helped 2 different friends do the shelter logic buildings that are similar and they have the 3 or 4 foot screw anchors and both friends had their sheds blow away in snow storms

Hey Stan, I would suggest getting either an old billboard tarp or a hay tarp to cover the shed. It would make the original tarp material last longer as well as hold up to the wind and snow a lot better.

Here in Ohio, anything on skid is considered a temporary building.

That building doesn't seem very robust. If it makes it through one winter I'll be impressed.

I installed a Harbor Frt 'tent' a few years back. It was subject to lots of snow/wind load (Michigan). The frame held up fine, the tarp on the roof section was good for 2 seasons before fatally ripping near the hoop bends. If it could be found, a PVC tarp (flat bed trucker type), would be the ultimate covering for this type structure. Typical PE tarps have a short life as compared to PVC tarps. Also I think wind action, friction, wears the tarps at the hoop bends causing premature fail spots. Doubling the tarp material at these points could be helpful.

My shelterlogic frame is still good around 5 years later however the tarps were very thin and started to tear where it rubbed at the joints. It seemed as if replacement tarps were heavier mil thickness. The tarp was complete trash in 3 years but the frame I will re-purpose and tin the sides for a cover for working livestock.

I know the feeling- we are keeping an old building structure standing for leverage for putting new up or having to redo it and keep it. Rural back road in the middle of nowhere on our farm and township road setback is still 75’ from center of the road!

I have a older version second hand from a neighbor who had it for 10+years and it works great for my wife’s mini van. Definitely need to anchor it down good or it will blow away. Mine ended up on the side of my house because of a couple wind storms. I now have it weighted down a lot more then what I did. Also close the doors and windows on it if you know some wind is coming and that should help keep it on the ground. I took the door off of mine to make it easier to park the van. But that also made it easier for the wind to pick it up.

I don't know if this will help in your situation but I have always been fond of the "double remodel". If you got a demolition permit and took down the house they wouldn't necessarily let you build a new house. The grandfathered structure is now gone. So, you get a permit to demolish everything but one wall and then you remodel within your footprint back to that wall. Then you get another permit. You guessed it you demolish the fourth wall and install something appropriate to match the first remodel.
