What kind of boots are you all rocking? What's working & what hasn't worked for you?
Salomon quest 4d Gore-Tex with merino whool socks and shock gel bottoms. When you dry your boots all you need to remember is "if it melts butter it fries leather"
@@jousiammuntakanava good rule of thumb
Crispi hunters. Great ankle locking system
Zamberlan are awesome for me
Garmont GTX. But, after your videos I started looking into Kenetrek to learn they carry an orthopedic line of boots. I had a bad ankle break and surgery during my Navy service and I think I am going to try those out. Thanks for the info, I appreciate your channel and it seems like we are fellow Washingtonians. Cheers.
Hey. Thanks. I just purchased my first pair of kenetreks and got the uninsulated mountain boots. I was unsure if I purchased the right boot, insulated vs insulated. You answered my question and now I feel confident that I made the right choice! Love your channel! Thanks again!!
I'm rockin the uninsulated Hoffman Boots out of Kellogg, ID. Very similar to Kenetreks. They've been great for me so far.
Zamberland guides and for late season lowa hunters gtx 400 insulated. So far so good had Lowas since 2012 and just got them rebuilt last year with a lot of hard miles on them.
Awesome video guys, I like how you got everyone involved and show how everyone’s feet are different. I’m running some Crispi’s GTX guide boots. My feet run cold so they are insulated. So far so good. Nowhere in south Texas to try boots like this on so I had to bite the bullet and order.
Word up - I know Crispi's can be good for the right foot style! They were just too wide for my feet, and also slightly slippery in the snow for me... - TC
I just bought the Kenetrek ME 400. I have broken both ankles and my right ankle is fused now so it is very difficult to find accommodating boots. I do like the rocker soles and the boot is great on my fused right foot. My left boot is hurting my foot a little and needs more break in. I have a touchy toe knuckle and is easily aggravated. But the fit, comfort and support is indescribably good.
I just got a pair of the Kenetrek EverStep’s. I’m excited to get them broken in.
word man! report back when you do
For me, I can only afford 1 pair of boots. When we bowhunt late season here in ID in November, and my feet get cold. My feet always run cold. I bought the mountain extreme 1000 insulated. I hunted with them from September through November. They did just fine for me in September. My feet did sweat, but surpisingly, probably no more than any leather boot. The double sock system really helped with a liner sock and marino on top of that. They were much warmer in November, but I still did get cold at time and needed battery socks. Excellent boot, although I would like more ankle support as I have had multiple surgeries on my right foot, have nerve damage from back surgery causing a weak calf, etc... Anyone every try mountaineering boots? I may try the orthopedic version with more ankle support but don't really want to give up the 1000g of insulation.
Ive been wearing the Danner Rainforest , my feet seem to love them
Awesome!
Agree with everything you said
Hello. I am interested in your review of the mountain guides after using them for a few months. How do they differ from the mountain extremes as the end user? Are they as comfortable? Do they have better or worse traction? There isn’t a lot of review content on the guides. I thank you for your time.
Love my Mountain Extreme 400s 👍
sweet deal!
2 years ago I bought some Scarpa Kinesis with custom footbeds from a boot fitting company. Have never fit right, in fact hurt each time after walking just a couple miles. I've never been able to sell them and has been frustrating. They probably work great for many guys, but not for me.
yeah boots are a very personal deal..
Just had to send my boots to MT for repair. Did what Dan mentioned, too close to the woodstove and the rubber pealed a touch but they are repairing for $0. Also sent in 2 pairs of their gaiter's so we will see about those since they were well used. I will report back on the gaiters.
That's cool - sounds like they took care of you! I can't say the same about my previous boot I was rockin' - TC
Finally upgraded to a pair of legit boots. As an eastern whitetail hunter I always wore budget rubber or hiker boots. Went with the Meindl Vakuum Hunter. Just got them but excited to see how they perform out in Nebraska this year.
Any update so far?
Great boots. I put over 70 miles in them in 7 days hunting in Nebraska. Definitely follow their recommendation to size down a half size.
I’m working with Danner Pronghorns that I got in 2016. I do really like the kennetrek boots, however for me it came down to needing to keep my costs in check that particular season. The one thing I insisted on was having a sole that could be replaced after it wears out, so the Danners were about as low on the list of boots that could accommodate that, and still be USA made boots.
One of these days when I can justify the cost, I’ll move to Kennetreks.
Very good - always tags over gear - TC
How are the Danners? I've read so many mixed reviews I don't know what to think. Some day Danners are great, some say they have lost quality and cheapened out lately.
@@thesanfranciscoseahorse473 I can’t say how the most recent Danners are, but my 2016 Pronghorns are still fantastic. Never had any issues yet.
Has anyone tried the Whites brand hunting boots
Have you ever tried Crispi boots?
Most of my boots are Salomon
Great video with a lot very good information, thanks!
One request though, could y'all ease up on the word "rocking"? Kinda devalues the word when it gets used over and over and over... :-) Cheers!
Crispi summits been treating me well. I’d hate to spend 4 to 500 bucks on a pair and them not fit me right.
Yeah that's important most boot companies have a pretty easy going return policy if they don't fit..
Those look nice. Do they freeze solid at night? Any tips on how to prevent that?
Ryan S. If they’re wet at all inside from sweating they will freeze overnight if it’s cold enough. You have to remove the insole and dry them out either with a boot dryer or next to a stove if you can pull that off carefully without damaging them. Careful too much heat will ruin them.
hard to do if you're backpacking... but when you have the opportunity keep them in a warmish area.. just not right next to the fire
Elkshape, are you still running Kenetrek's or have you switched to Crispi?
We are running Crispi's .. Bryksdals are my favorite - TC
Crispi Nevada’s Uninsulated!!!
Cool cool!
What is your choice for a reasonably priced pair of boots?
Dan's been rocking Kenetrek for 10 years, that's his choice boot. Merrell makes a pretty good price point boot IMO - Tim here..
Cool, thanks Tim. I’d love to have a pair of Kenetrek’s. Unfortunately being a cop, i don’t know if i could justify the expense! And down here in the Louisiana Bayou i need more waterproof/snake proof setup. I make it up north for maybe one trip a year and a simple pair of insulated boots do good for walking to a tree to climb and get in my saddle.
Keep doing what y’all are doing. I appreciate the content.
Gentleman, just a note: the boots the first two of you show & hold are the guide version but your screen shows you navigating to the mountain extreme online. The guides use the stiffest sole and barely have flex. Different boot & purpose. Call Kenetrek if you need clarification.
Kenetrek says it is the thickest sole but flexes more making it have a better grip due to it having more rubber
Your logic says get regular boots but logic goes out the door in North Dakota in February.
The $1000 boot review! Worthless
Not sure this was the best information.
It's an old video..
