“As iron sharpens iron, one man sharpens another man.” Prob. 27:17. Sincere thanks for all the sharpening I have received from you. I think the thing I respect most is your humbleness; it’s a rare trait for these strange times in which we live.
Thanks Chad, I try, but I wonder, lol, Mike
Thanks for sharing I'll give it a try
This shows the strength of a man who can step outside of his skill set and do a task that ...."is no big deal" Mike H... Then invited a friend with that skill set to demonstrate what really needs to be done.... Mike again you show yourself to be a true tradesman and a great person... God Bless
Thanks Ernest, God bless also, mike
Lol.... sorry to tell you mike. THOSE ARE NUMBERS! HAPPY NEW YEAR
Gibson

When I was an undergrad in geology I took a class that had a field trip to an old cemetery with limestone headstones. The professor explained how the erosion rate for the locally sourced rock could be easily measured with the dated stones. Your video reminded me of this.
Yeah for sure. Cant walk thru without checking dates
Yep, I done that before and have a video about the pyramids comming up where I just did it again, thanks Mike
Renaissance Man .. literally
Sending a prayer blessing to you Mike from the Lord God.

While it is possible to carve a date or a few letters in soft stone for the past hundred plus years pneumatic tools and sandblasting has been used to carve lettering on gravestones and monuments. When you need to add a date to a gravestone, a rubbing just as you did is taken to copy the style of the lettering IF you don't have the stencils in the same font to lay out your own. A piece of rubber is glued to the face of the stone and the new lettering is transferred over to the rubber. Then the lettering to be added is cut out with a sharp knife. The letters are then cut using grit blasting. Holding the gun at an angle lets you carve the sloped V-shaped profile of the letter in the stone. The same can be done when carving flowers or logos into stone. Using a technique similar to silk screening where you uncover different areas to blast them then replace the cutouts to protect that area during the next blasting session.
Your process will work well for making a cornerstone for a DIY project or to add a personal touch to ones home.

Hi Mike, the way you adjusted the spacing of the 1 is a process they call Kerning in the print / design world - its "the process of adjusting the spacing between characters to achieve a visually pleasing result". Fun to see it in one of your videos, does show design happens everywhere.
Thanks Andy, yes I could use some lessons in lettering, lol, mike
Good stuff again Mike. I used to walk in a Cemetery. Wonder if Family will pay for a decent cleaning of the stones.
Hi Jerome, good question, lol, Mike
As you know most lettering is done by sandblasting, CNC or insomar machine but you can't beat hand cut. One tip Mike, you might like to invest in a Vitrex VITGO200VT grout removal tool, very cheap but is perfect for small lettering with its hammer action tungsten tip. As always excellent presentation and Happy New Year to you.
Thanks Nick, Happy new year, I will check out the tool, Mike
Cheers to 2021!!

i find the screwdrivers work the best, then sharp wood chisels. cold chisels seem to be good for breaking things.

@@MikeHaduck It's no problem, they say you can send the copyright cheque from their headstone in the post
Ask the cathedral guy, how do you carve a letter when you can't spin the stone around,?
Can he demonstrate how to hold the chisel when carving the curve in the 2?
Hi Scott, where there is a will there is a way, thanks Mike
Okay- try shaping and polishing granite with only copper
Hi K , you dont have to, granted polished granite or amorites or sand and water, thanks Mike
This is the video on how not to carve letters. Needed to start with scrubbed centre line
Thanks Whale, Mike

Happy New Year Mike. I'm lazy, I'd use a rotary tool. My neighbor has one good tooth left in his mouth, I wonder if he'd let me have it to carve limestone with?
Thanks Mike, he might, happy new year, mike
Thanks Mike, he might, happy new year, mike
I use wood chiesel, end of file to scrape, cuttin into marble..Granite is very hard. ...carvin me gravestone...shhh.. ya suppossed to be spendin big bucks to a proper person to do that.. The Egyptians usin copper to carve stone is an assumption we believe...If they used some super instrument outta this world, would we really be told that?
Hi Gogo, it's only stone, like anything else you get better as you go, thanks mike
Hey, Mike, do it again it's 2023.
Thanks ,Don, I will think about it, Mike
This is cool, thanks. But it bugs me he keeps saying letters not numbers LOL
Thanks, mike
It was totally Aliens. The history channel said so, with their experts.
Hi Gypsy, I want to sue them aliens for showing how to build that der stuff and not leaving the technology to use engines, power tools or fly , It's a discrimination law suit against earthlings, let me know if you know any that I could serve, thanks mike
He says he is carving letters, but its all numbers?????
Hi Mark, not if you turn it upside down, lol, Mike
Scientist against myths channel just bored a hole through rock with a sheet of copper
Thanks Richard, I bet that's true, mike
They are numbers not letters
