Lore on the exotic glaives released in Witch Queen (Edge of Concurrence/Action/Intent) shows that Savathun indeed keep her cunning after the resurrection, but also that she was instructed what to do by the wizard you kill in the penultimate mission (of course before that wizard became Lucent).

Rhulk was actually the one who met with the worm gods and forced them to serve the witness by taking their mother Xita(who you can see in the raid)The worm gods were actually scared of him and called him the Subjugator. He also battled the leviathan that guarded the worm gods and you can find its rib in the raid. He doesn't even try during his fight with us until the very end. In short he is the most powerful being we have ever faced.

dread here once again to clarify confusing destiny lore:
Rhulk destroyed his planets sun and the weapon he used for it was the upended, his race was called the Lubraens, after the world's name Lubrae
he dove into fundaments oceans, killed the leviathan and kidnapped the mother of the worm gods forcing the wormgods into the pact that the witness tricked the krill/hive into so they wouldn't receive ghosts from the traveler
it is implied that the traveler didn't give out ghosts to other races it uplifted out of fear the same would happen again
because of that implication it's also theorized the reason it gave us ghosts and didn't flee from earth js because there's nowhere left to go, everything outside Sol is dead worlds, darkness and vex

(Answering these as the vid plays) 3:40 even when Sav says "this is the truth" can still be lies.
This is from lore in Season of the Drifter but the Nine are essentially sentiment Dark Matter, & when Sav talks about "the Agent" she means Xur.
& there is a lore book titled "Shattered Suns" which goes into Rhulk's origins & how he met & was recruited by the Witness, Rhulk's home is Lubrae & his kind are called Lubraens.
Vow's raid armor also has lore that relates to Rhulk, the Witness, & Savathun, things like Rhulk & Sav's rivalry, aswell how they reacted to Oryx's death, & how the Witness & Rhulk found the Krill & manipulated them, aswell as how Rhulk made the Worm God's slaves to the Witness, something that was implied in the lore of Vow's raid armor is that the Witness was grooming Savathun to be a Disciple, but that was before she betrayed it in Arrivals. The lore of the exotic Parasyte also talks about the Witness giving Mara an invitation to be a Disciple
Also the audio logs from Rhulk after the raid is from a separate activity which is a mission that can be soloed titled Preservation

Mara is not manipulated, she's actually the only one who was able to enter the witness's mind. She was pretty scared of it, and in that cutscene she was simply feeling his pressure from afar I think. Anyways, if Mara Sow fears the witness, well...

In regards to 32:34 about humanity not being special. That's a bit of a yes and no. The Dreams of Alpha Lupi lore tell us the Traveler decided to stand its ground for once. The lore book Last Days on Kraken Mare entry The Sixth Seal part II, gives another hint of this. During the Collapse the Traveler stopped terraforming on Io and actually headed back towards Earth instead of running. The Constellations lore book (it has some interesting entries btw which gives us some details about the Traveler and the many Speakers through history in case you haven't read it) has the entry, Severing, which tells us that the Traveler doesn't want to leave. Though at the end of the battle, which ended with it being crippled in orbit, in its fear it desperately wanted to run, but it was too late then. The Traveler by its very nature isn't a fighter. But there is no reason to believe it couldn't have been the Eliksni or another civilization. It got tired of running and watching all its work be undone and we were just lucky enough to be the final straw. So as Savathûn said, the game is ours to play now to win or lose.

  • @kylemccormack1785
    @kylemccormack1785 Před 4 měsíci +3

15:15 - **eh hem** Strap in Terra, it's Books of Sorrow guy with an entire god damn lore book worth of a post for you.
There is an answer to this question. Savathun has several advantages over human guardians when it came to re-discovering her identity and purpose, which eventually led to her fully restored memories. It's also important to remember that Guardians have created a weird taboo about past lives, which leads to active discouragement. But what if the opposite was true? What if someone had prepared the way for you, so that you would be guided and informed and educated about your past self?
We know from Season of the Lost that such memories can in fact be restored, as that happened to Crow, who now fully remembers his other life as Uldren. Savathun seemingly used Crow as a test case for her plan, to make sure it was possible to return the memories of a Guardian's past life to them.
First, Savathun made multiple over-lapping plans to help her regain her footing after her resurrection in the Light. By searching Savathun's throne world for important objects and using the Altar of Reflection in her throne world, we were able to uncover Savathun's memories in an attempt to find out how she stole the Light. What we were actually doing, though, was helping to restore Savathun's memories. Our investigation was all part of her plan. In other words, she had us. We, who had recently taken up The Dark and could wield powers such as Deepsight, which allows us to pull resonant memories from objects and locations as well as living beings. Remember, Light is powerful but it is tied firmly to the domains of physical creation. It is Darkness that holds power over the Mind, over memories and dreams and nightmares. You will learn much more about this soon, Terra. :)
Savathun used us to restore her memories using Darkness (Deepsight), in a very similar way to how she restored Crow's memories of Prince Uldren.
Second, and this is important - she had help. (This is all from lore cards on raid armor, etc.) Another plan of hers, she found and trained up a powerful Witch in her coven whom she actually placed her trust in. Difficult thing for a Hive Goddess of schemes to do, you can imagine. The Witch is only ever identified as Savathûn's Right Hand. We actually kill her during the campaign; she is a Lightbearer Hive witch who protects the crystal shard that Savathun found stabbed into her chitin after her escape from Mara Sov. If you watch Savathun's resurrection scene again, you'll see her pull the shard out of her hip and throw it away before she makes her Appeal to the Sky. When the Witch Queen died and was risen by her Ghost Immaru, her most trusted witch came to them both at the edge of our City, to guide them back to her Throne World. This Witch also recovered the piece of crystal shard, and was later charged with it's protection.
She first brought Savathûn back to the Lure, where the queen began reforging the realm in the Light while the Witch began to tell her about who she was and what she had prepared them for. She called up an audience of her Hive Brood soon after, and slew her Right Hand in front of them, only for her to be soon risen by her own Ghost, becoming the first of the Lucent Brood's Lightbearers. Savathûn's Right Hand was later placed in charge of the Apothecary, where she and many Wizards led experiments on captured Light before eventually being killed and her Ghost crushed by "us", the player, The Young Wolf.
Third, and finally, she set up her own Throne world beforehand so that she would discover important relics of her past. That's WHY you can go to different temples which are built in memory of her siblings and herself before the worms. Why you can find one of Oryx's legendary Tablets of Ruin alongside a beautiful sculpture of Oryx killing Akka. It's why you can find Sagira and the Crystal shard, because they would remind her of her time immediately before she died. She had her whole life spelled out in front of her, with physical objects, so that even if all of her other plans failed, Immaru would have been able to eventually guide her back to her Throne World and these temples.
So, to answer your question, is her cleverness INSTRINSIC to her being? Probably, for the most part, no. Maybe a little, due to her millions of years living as a Goddess of Schemes and Trickery. But in reality, her success was all careful plotting. She planned for YEARS before she executed this scheme to "steal" the Light. Back in the original Destiny 2 Red War campaign, there was a strike called Savathun's Song, in which we discovered the Hive had been ripping Void Light out of Guardians and storing it successfully in crystals. If you recall, in the first mission of Witch Queen, one of the first things we encounter on the Lure ship is... void light. Then, a void-wielding Lucent Hive. She was studying the Light, even back in 2017. YEARS, not a little bit of planning here and there, but YEARS of constant, daily scheming, planning, maneuvering, experimenting.
This isn't even the first time she's done something like this. After millions of years as Hive, she "re-franchised her existence" and learned to feed her Hive not through slaughter, but through a power she called Imbaru. Don't look that up, you'll learn more about it later lol. But it is essentially a "law" of the universe that she herself created, which allows the worm to feed off of misunderstanding, deception, trickery. She re-wrote her entire existence and cast new laws into creation for her own being. And she also tried learning necromancy from Nokris, with the goal of bucking the worm's pact using magick - but it didn't work. She thinks and plans, in other words, on a cosmic scale, on a grand and universal scale, using only the strongest and most esoteric of powers. She did it once, successfully, with the creation of Imbaru.
And now she's done it again by converting to the Light and ending the worm pact. Twice, she has reorganized and re-defined her own divine nature and taken control of her own destiny.
Savathun is easily the most cunning and clever creature in the entire Destiny franchise. Only she could have so expertly planned a pathway for herself and voluntarily sacrificed her memories and identity with the faith that her plan would work. Huge risk, huge reward. Always has been her way...

One of the weapons obtainable from Vow of the Disciple is Lubrae's Ruin - which is not the raid exotic, as you'll know if you've done the raid, but it is still significant due to canonically being the same glaive used by Rhulk in his boss fight (it might also be from his backstory but I'm not 100% on that), and that's really cool. I wish we had more weapons like this and, say, Skyburner's Oath or Grand Overture that are taken right from our enemies' hands and repurposed for Guardian use.

Canonically, Guardians never used swords until taking a piece of Oryx's after defeating him and crafting the first swords in Destiny (which only existed as exotics at first). By implication, every sword we've ever used (except the Golden Age weapons Worldline Zero and Lament) has its technological basis in Hive swordcrafting. Similarly, every glaive we have is based on Enigma, itself a relic from Lubrae.
Dreg's Promise is a Dreg's shock pistol, Queenbreaker's Bow/The Queenbreaker is a Vandal's wire rifle, Lord of Wolves is a Captain's shrapnel launcher, and Anarchy is a specially made Eliksni weapon.
Legend of Acrius is a Cabal Slug Shotgun, Skyburner's Oath is a Legionary's slug rifle, while Heir Apparent and Grand Overture basically turn you into a Centurion. Leviathan's Breath isn't a weapon we see the Cabal use, but it was obviously built for a Cabal physique and it hits like a Centurion's Bronto Cannon. Ticuu's Divination was crafted (in a horrific way) by a Psion, though we never see them use it. Dead Messenger was made by the Cassoid foundry specifically for Caiatl, though lore doesn't tell us how we got permission to use it. And of course Heartshadow was an unwanted gift from Calus to Caiatl.
Ex Diris is a Hive Knight boomer. Deathbringer is a Deathsinger's song made into a physical weapon.
Divinity is a deity the Vex created and worshipped (and performs similarly to an arc cranium); Vex Mythoclast is a combination Goblin slap rifle and Hobgoblin line rifle; and Vexcalibur fires the same forked void bolts as a Wyvern's warp lance.
And that's not even getting into the weapons that are made from dead gods and living beings, like Whisper of the Worm and Touch of Malice and Delicate Tomb, nor the weapons we made with stolen enemy tech like No Time to Explain, Osteo Striga, and Witherhoard.
