    He failed to mention that if you use these for an extended period +30 minutes, you will experience a dry nose and sore throat. You need to be deliberately slow and deep with your breathing(inhale and exhale). If not you will give yourself a sore throat. Also store mask in two bags. and the bag that hold the resparator place a dissecant packet. You don't want to store the mask in the dark coupled with sweat from resparation, mold with accumulate. Also when checking your mask for integrity, once on breath in deep. If you feel cool are around nose, your top head loop is not right enough. Same with bottom.

    just one point about isocyanites, the green mask you show which I have on the bag it seems to imply it is safe for isocyanites, however I believe this is incorrect. these canisters are very much like the 3m paint respirators and I'm pretty sure they do not support that claim. in fact no respirator that you draw air will qualify because of the chance air slips by. besides isocyanates should have full face protection. therefore the system you spoke about with the external air supply and hose is the way to go. i myself do not spray isocyanites because I do not have a spray booth nor the proper safety equipment.

      I cut a hole through my inside and outside walls, got a flapper-type valve for the outside and connected a hose (like a dryer hose but aluminum) to the inside. Before attaching the hose I bought an electric fan which is built to fit into pipes/hoses and ran the wire through the hose down to the entrance. You can put the entrance to the hose/pipe where ever you need it and make it fast or just keep it loose in order to be able to weld where ever you want. The fan works well enough to such the smoke/gases outside. If you can fine some kind of filter then the neighbours might not freak out too much but then you would also need a more powerful fan.

    the respirator with the P100 filters: P100 means oil proof for "P" and 100 refers to it being 99.97% efficient for particles .3 microns or bigger. the 3 one with the organic vapor filters (gray section) is a N95 front filter N= Not oil proof and 95=95% efficient for particles .3 microns or bigger. The first 3 are definitely useable for COVID-19. I know. I've fit tested over 450 medical workers for their respirators and masks.

    • @freebirdsafety

      @@seanspeller3542 Yes they will. Silica is 10 Microns in size. The P1000 HEPA filter captures 99.97% of particles that are .3 microns and bigger. However, without a perfect face-to-mask seal, the filters won't do any good. Make sure you get a respirator fit test, and I personally recommend the North 7700 respirator. It's a little more comfortable on the face and more forgiving when it comes to a seal.

      @eastwoodco  Před 2 lety

      The 6800 is a great respirator, however, filtration comes down to the filter itself. For Eastwood Contour Body Filler, we'd recommend a half-face respirator and something like the 3M™ Particulate Filter 2097/07184(AAD), P100, with Nuisance Level Organic Vapor Relief. (The organic vapor relief should help with the smell)
      For painting, get yourself a filter that's designed for paint. The 3M™ Organic Vapor Cartridge 6001 will work great for your 6800.

      You probably need an ABEK filter with a P3 (P100) particulate filtering.
      But I think P2 (P97?) could be enough to filter out Aluminium dust.
      But since you're working with Sulphates, you are working with inorganic compounds.
      Make sure the ABEK filters work against that.
      Since Sulphates are acidic, you probably need eye protection or full-face protection.
      Again, make sure you're working in a supervised environment when working with dangerous chemicals.
      Oh, when the filters get used up or being unable to filter out the chemicals, be to replace them.

    Does P95 filter out paint solvents like turpentine? I am taking an oil painting class. I have asthma and I want to make sure I am protected. :)

    • @eastwoodco
      @eastwoodco  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Kiwi,
      I would NOT go with a P95. The P95 is mainly used to filter small particulate.
      I believe your best bet would be a P100 Organic Vapor cartridge filter. 3M states... "Organic vapors from solvents, such as those in paints and thinners, require a cartridge with a black label."
      Make sure they're new, clean, and within the expiration date.
      -JD
      EDIT: 3M also gives this disclaimer about paint thinners.
      "These compounds have been identified
      as possibly existing in both vapor and
      particulate phase in the workplace.
      Even though these chemicals would
      be expected to be in the vapor phase,
      when other aerosols are present or
      there is high humidity, it is possible
      that the vapor may be adsorbed onto
      these coexisting particles or dissolved
      in available water droplets; therefore,
      3M recommends a filter for the
      particulate phase be used in addition
      to the traditionally accepted chemical
      cartridge. It is the user’s responsibility to
      determine whether both forms coexist. "
      Hope I could help!

      @@eastwoodco Thank you so much! This is super helpful! Unfortunately I did not see your message and I had already purchased a box of 3M P95, 8577 masks thinking they would work, Do you happen to know if they make P100 without a full on respirator mask? Again thank you for taking the time to help me, I really appreciate it so much!

    Which filters for playing around in the attic with possible asbestos?

    • @eastwoodco
      @eastwoodco  Před 2 lety

      You’ll need to be thinking about more than a mask.
      Bunny suits, air filtration, and hazardous material disposal as well.
      It won’t do any good to be protected while wearing the mask, just to leave the dust around to be breathed in later.
      I'm not an expert on asbestos, but I believe that it's a job better left for professionals. Please use extreme caution, even if there's only a small chance of exposure.
