    I believe the flashbacks were to make it easier for them to cut between different scenes with it not looking to janky.

    Daleks didn’t have anything blasting from their gun at all until the Tom Baker era (aside from one Pertwee story where they used bullets), up to then they just cut to a negative shot of whichever actor was being exterminated. The gas/smoke effect was only used in the 2 films.

    Im glad its out and that there are options to watch the original. Theres bugger all to grab on Who now for us who own all the boxsets so this is a pleasant surprise. The 75 minute colourisation is awesome, seeing it was an emotional experience as its a childhood favourite. Those who are dead against colourising are missing the point, as its nice to have an alternative way to watch classics.

      I should say, I'm not dead against colourising at all. I think they did a fantastic job of the colour here. I just wish a little lighter hand had been used in other areas.

    Overall, I really enjoyed this release, although like many, I have a few niggles. I did, however, buy the Steelbook simply because I want to support and encourage further colourisations. I can't wait for the next one, whatever it may be! 🎉

      I think people will have their own reasons for buying it and I do hope it goes well enough that more of these can be made. I would like them to do more for the release, however. Right now, it’s too much like I’ve re-bought the same stuff again.

    For me, The set should have included the original serial in HD. Adding the 2nd disc as a reprinting of the original DVD disc feels lazy. Also the Stef Coburn situation makes me a little worried about the possibility of a Season 1 release in the Bluray Collection.
    I totally agree about the music, they obviously were trying to drive the pace through it in the second half. I appreciate they didn't have a lot of options with cut-aways because of period limitations in live editing, so the flashbacks are an interesting workaround.

    • @BeyondTheSofa
      @BeyondTheSofa  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The second disc just being the original DVD is a big disappointment. I agree RE: Season 1 as well. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with that.

      Whats the Stef Coburn situation?

    • @stark_harshly
      @stark_harshly Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@literacylabyrinth4018 Stef Coburn is the son of Anthony Coburn, writer on the first Doctor Who serial. He wants to withhold rights to the BBC over some grievance, which is why an Unearthly Child is missing from the iPlayer right now.

    I liked the colours, and some of the music. I wasn't someone who enjoyed the original story being 7 parts long, but even then, it should've been slower paced. Add another half an hour maybe to this edit maybe.

    • @BeyondTheSofa
      @BeyondTheSofa  Před 4 měsíci +4

      Having recently revisited the Cushing films, the pacing on those was so much more natural. I get they could probably only colourise a certain amount of footage due to cost, but I do feel that was at the expense of the pacing.

    That new soundtrack was too much in the new edit. I was hopeful they might have adjusted the volume of it for the physical media release.

      @whovian59 Před 4 měsíci +1

      I hope you at least ordered the blu-ray or DVD in support of the media release. If it doesn't sell well, it could be interpreted that Who in Colour is a failure, which would be a shame.

  • @Cyber_Smoke
    @Cyber_Smoke Před 4 měsíci +3

    I thought the colour was great too much added ambient music totally ruined immresion needed an extra twenty minutes to let the story breath.
    I would love to see Tomb of The Cybermen next maybe trim out some of the poorly aged lines to toberman and leave most of the length as is.

    • @BeyondTheSofa
      @BeyondTheSofa  Před 4 měsíci +5

      I would like to see Tomb as well. I get the argument against (that a lot of it would be shades of grey anyway) but it is one of my favourite serials. I was thinking that it might be fun to see The Mind Robber done like this as well.
