One of my favorite RC albums, along with Kata Ton... and Aealo. The perfect balance of aggression, melody, tribal trance-inducing patterns and epicness. Rotting Christ, you rule!
I think in this album they've managed to achieve a perfect balance between old scool melodic black metal, more modern metal production and their later folk elements

Θεογονία... Η γέννηση του κόσμου, των θεών και των ηρώων και η αναγέννηση των Rotting Christ στο συγκεκριμένο δίσκο. Ένα άλμπουμ το οποίο σηματοδοτεί το τέλος της μέσης περιόδου του συγκροτήματος και την αυγή μιας νέας ημέρας που έχει πολλά να μας δείξει.
Είναι αλήθεια δυστυχώς ότι στη ζωή τα ωραία πράγματα κρατάνε για λίγο και αυτό φάνηκε στους Rotting Christ περισσότερο από κάθε άλλο συγκρότημα. Αν και το Sanctus Diavolos ήταν πολύ ωραίο και έστεκε υπέροχα στο ύψος του, εντούτοις εξ αρχής ήταν προφανές ότι οι Rotting δεν μπορούσαν να συνεχίσουν πλεον με αυτό τον ήχο. Χρειαζόταν λοιπόν κάτι καινούριο, το οποίο θα άνοιγε νέους ορίζοντες μουσικά και πνευματικά για το συγκρότημα. Έτσι, ο Σάκης και η σια αποφάσισαν να συνενώσουν τα στοιχεία των προηγούμενων άλμπουμ τους σε ένα και μαζί να προσθέσουν στον ήχο επιρροές από παραδοσιακή μουσική και αρχαϊκούς τόνους, αποτελειώνοντας με αυτό τον τρόπο κάτι που είχε αρχίσει να φαίνεται από το Khronos και δημιουργώντας ένα άλμπουμ το οποίο θα έμενε μοναδικό στο είδος του και θα κεραυνοβολούσε τους ακροατές στην κυριολεξία, δίνοντας μια καλή απάντηση στους "προοδευτικούς" που τολμούν να παρουσιάζονται ως φαν του black metal.
Ξεκινώντας από την παραγωγή, αυτή είναι αρκετά καλή και δείχνει πως τα άλμπουμ των Rotting Christ πρέπει να ηχογραφούνται. Όσο για την ατμόσφαιρα, η ύπαρξη πολλών διαφορετικών στοιχείων της προσδίδει έναν ιδιαίτερο χαρακτήρα, καθώς είναι επική, αρχαία, σκοτεινή, δυνατή και μυστικιστική.
Στις κιθάρες ο Σάκης κάνει απίθανη δουλειά και δείχνει πολύ εμπνευσμένος. Αναρωτιέμαι μόνο αν θα ξαναπαίξει όπως παίζει εδώ.
Στο θέμα μπάσο ο Ανδρέας κάνει ακόμα μια φορά θαυμάσια δουλειά, δίνοντας το στίγμα του ευχάριστα.
Όσον αφορά τα πλήκτρα, εδώ παρατηρείται μεγάλη πρόοδος σε σχέση με το Sanctus Diavolos, διότι ο Σάκης χρησιμοποιεί μεγαλύτερη ποικιλία ήχων και βοηθά έντονα στην ατμόσφαιρα που υπάρχει στο άλμπουμ.
Η πρόοδος είναι μεγάλη και στο φίλο Θέμη, αφού παίζει πιο γρήγορα και έχει μεγαλύτερη αντοχή, κρατώντας το ρυθμό για τα υπόλοιπα όργανα.
Και τώρα, στο θέμα τραγούδια οι Rotting δίνουν ρέστα όπως κανείς άλλος. Κανένα τραγούδι δεν είναι μέτριο. Όλα τους είναι απίστευτα και κυλάνε γρήγορα. Από το intro "Χάος Εγένετο", το απίθανο "Κεραυνός Κυβερνητός" που στην κυριολεξία κεραυνοβολεί τον ακροατή, το επικό & folkish "Nemesis" και το "Gaia Tellus" με το απίθανο κύριο riff και τα πλήκτρα ως το επιθετικό "Rege Diabolicus", το κλασικό "He, The Aethyr", το απλό και υποτιμημένο "Helios Yperion" και το επικό, αρχαίου στυλ outro "Thenody" δεν υπάρχει καμία στιγμή όπου τα κομμάτια "σπάνε", αντιθέτως όλα αποτελούν ένα ενιαίο σύνολο με πολύ καλή συνοχή.
Τι να πει κανείς για το Θεογονία δεν ξέρω. Πάντως ένα είναι σίγουρο: είναι ένα μεγάλο αριστούργημα και μαζί ένα από τα τρία άλμπουμ των Rotting Christ που τα θεωρώ σημαντικά για το συγκρότημα και τα ακούω πιο συχνά (τα άλλα δύο έιναι το Thy Mighty Contract και το Genesis). Συναρπαστικός δε λέει τίποτα. Ένας δίσκος απίστευτος, που όμοιός του δεν πρόκειται να ξαναβγεί...
