- ST Focus Oil & Filter Change.
Had the pleasure of a ford focus st in for an oil & filter change along with a new fuel filter. The passenger front door edge protector was broken which is something i have not come across so was interesting and also an easy fix.
The owner of the vehicle was happy for us to make a video showcasing his car which gave me great pleasure and a fun day, many thanks to neil for trusting us with his car😁🤪 - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Glad the owner gave his blessing for the road test. Some owners would be very precious about who and why its being driven. Keep them coming. Always entertaining and informative 👍
Yes I gave my blessing and they took real great care of my car and Alan did a brilliant job.
@@neilandbradley6845 she looks to be a mint example of a Focus ST diesel. I very nearly bought one back in 2017. Only available in manual I think which is annoying
Yeah, I'm working on cars in the states, this Focus ST is an everyday kind of car around here.
I love your videos 100% down to earth genuine guy keep up the good work..
Firstly a massive thanks to you Alan as I bought a focus st diesel a few months ago, after watching this video decided to service the st myself wasn't I lucky to do so as oil filter was only finger tight no tools needed.
Without watching this video I may well of finished up with a much bigger bill👍👍👍👍👍
Ps I have never seen a car mechanic get so excited servicing a car before. cheers Geoff.
Thank you so much I done my worst fear on this fuel filter and I took just 15 mints to change all filter u are the lad 👍
Great 👍
that door protector has just blown my mind amazing invention!
Been asked a few times by fellow owners of the servicing process for these and I have to say I've shared your video more times than I can even think of. Absolutely brilliant content and brilliantly explained; top job keep it up 👏🏼
Wow that car is absolutely pristine..a credit to the owner for looking after it. Brilliant cars.
Good editing here too - nice job 👍
Alan top video the best yet with the cam and slow mo...looks really professional keep it up
Editing skills like a pro Alan 👍🏻
Great video Alan, and Monica coming in on her RDO to drive the ST. 👍
Hi Alan, great video, and lovely car I can't blame monika for wanting to come in on her day off, and a bonus you let her drive it, great slow-motion at the end, keep up the good work.
Thanks, im glad Monika came in on her day off.
Fantastic video, really helped show how simple the fuel filter is on these cars! Thank you
Glad you liked it! cheers tom
@@alan4x the only issue I found was Eurocarparts sending the wrong filter, trying to convince me it was the right one... which did pressurise the housing, and stop the car starting. They soon sent the right one 😂
great vid Alan and Monika ive always put oil on my new filter nice to see you respcting this special car with FOMOCO parts worth the few quid more keep em coming pmsl when you said if you find bits of swarf etc in the fuel filter the hp pump could be going out my advice trade it in ASAP lol
great video..love the ST... keep it videos coming...
Great video Alan ive been watching your videos since speaking to you about the 1.8 lynx wet belts!
I've got an focus st2 with the dw10 engine in. I know they're a good unit! Smashing video thanks look forward to more!
thanks mrRitchie225😁
I've had a Focus 2011 Mk3 (pre-facelift), with the 2.0TdCi 136hp, it was a great car, this one is even faster, great video Alan! I'm only typing this so I can say; Monika is very beautiful :D :)
Just about to do service on mine, you sound more excited about it than I do 😅 I have the same colour 😊
Thank you and Monica for this video!
Great video Alan and a nice car it’s a Good idea on putting the oil on the filter seal as it stops the rubber seal rucking up
Yep a well known tip that's been around for a long time
Fantastic video. 👏🏼👌🏼
You made a realy great chanel. Regards from Croatia !!!
Good team work guys 😉👌
Thank you Monica ;) bada bing!!!!
Thanks alan great video. Love the car!!!
Monica should wear a bikini
Great video Alan,
Great job alan, thanks mrs m,neil, wow an ST in garage whats next a cossie maybe😃
A Cossie would be brilliant, which I still had my F reg Sapphire Cosworth. Alan did a great job on my Focus and I was very impressed with the service.
Id love an st,awesome vid, awesome car
Thanks , it’s been a brilliant car the 3 years I’ve owned it. Always gets attention when I go places.
I love my ST250, perfect car
My kind regards to miss m and the rest of the fantastic team
Bloody love your videos, explain everything so clearly and makes me wish I still had my MK3 Mondeo! However, one thing I noticed! Get your jeans off the paintwork! 🤣
Another great vid Alan. Thank god you highlighted the loosening oil filter issue. I had this on my Kuga, made me start doubting my sanity.
Ford dealers in UK and Ireland avoiding damaged engine waranty issues caused by that filter coming loose. I think it's the rubber seal, it should be made of either Viton, Nitrile or Buna rubber which is oil resistant. The factory banging them out is in Morocco, great place for sardines - not oil filters. I use strap wrench all the time now on only these engines.
Regarding the fuel filter pot,, I take it out as it has a sump in it's bottom which is very good at hiding metal glitter. Also Ford did not fit the clear plastic drain hose on mine, turn the drain screw and diesel runs down into the alternator (well done Ford). It takes a bit more time to do, as I blow it all out with an air line. I hate this PSA junk.
By the way I just done the gasket on my high pressure pump intermediate housing. I smeared a small skin of Hylomar around the oil feed into the gear housing before assembly. That was the only area on the old gasket where the embossed surface had vanished completely apon disasembly.
If Homar is good enough for Rolls Royce, then it's good for PSA engines.
Thanks again for the vids, keep up the good work with them.
Your a legend.
Regards. Tony
What's stopping you from using a different filter? Mann, Mahle, Purflux...
Great cars. Remap stage 1 on mine got me an extra 56bhp. All stock.
Thoroughly enjoyed the video Alan, if i do the hand tight thing on my connect oil filter it always comes loose, 25.11 conformation of my dirty mind.
nice car with my fav color 💛💛💛
Alan der beste Schrauber !! Habe schon viel von Ihm gelernt. Gruß Dennis
Translated: Alan is the best mechanic. Learned a lot from him
Also watching him from Germany....keep em coming. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
mk5 ST in impaact blue is lovely also.
Nice piece of machinery.
All us Neils always have great cars...
Im not the Neil in the vid...
who the hell designs these engine connectors......soo cool
Thankyou Miss M91 and Alan
N x
Thanks, I know a few Neils too who have nice cars, I was very impressed with the service that Alan did on my Focus and both Alan and Monica took great care of it.
i love how the engine oil was black immediately ! that's the diesel engine for you.
Much nicer than the new shape.
Allen
Just brilliant stuff
Phil in stoke
thanks phil
nice work thank again canada
Spot On !!
Good job 👍
Well, I was going to comment and say "you mentioned how cool the red kick plates were, but never mentioned the pop out door protectors", and then it got to 17:50. 👍🏻
Great to see. When you expect mondeo 2.0 fuel filter replacement movie? Great to watch you
cheers rafal
Hello Alan, great and very informative video btw! Just a question, my focus st has come up with the code P228C. I've changed the fuel filter as many suggested as this solved it for them however it didn't for me. I went for a drive and drove hard on 4th gear but it lost all power when the revs hit around 3500-4000rpm. Any idea what I could replace to solve this problem or any ideas what it could be? thank you!
I used to have a Ford Edge with i beleive the same 180hp 2 liter diesel. Lovely engine, obviously on a 2 ton car, not the same speed but you really notice the torc
I got the stage 3 from Pumaspeed, 278 bhp and 580nm.
nice
I have always put oil on the seal of a new filter as well
Out of interest do you use any kind of oil flush when carrying out the oil changes? Great video, keep up the good work 👍🏻
Allan- you know you can easily remap one or two taxis to have 180HP using forscan- just change the power rating - the map is already there- just activate it. Nice video as allways
Coor a Mondeo St Taxi high performance , its worth a crack
Or get around 220bhp with an actual remap. The difference it makes to a 150 is night & day
This my favorite model ford focus st
Thank you!
Monika perfect handling of the steering wheel.
Alan it's a good idea to half fill the metal cannister type oil filters with the brand new fresh oil and then screw back in place
I have never done this in 25 years, nor have I had any issues... However, this actually makes sense!
my dream car :D
Hey Allen, all your mk5 2.0 tdci can be upgraded to 180bhp without special tuning devices/software. The software it is the same and it is needed just to be unlocked. :)
Good lord, Alan in pair of hot pants, now there's a image i can't get out of my head😂😁😆
Alan, I believe you live in a nice environment. Since we all can't travel that much, might it be an idea to make a touristic video once?
st, wow love this car much. hehehe your so funny alan :)
Thanks, I love my car too and it’s been an exceptional car and very reliable. Alan has made a great video.
ALAN MY FAVOURITE CAR MATE MY MATE HAD ONE FAST AS OUT FLYING MACHINE 😊
Say your changing an engine mount on your drive, would that plastic sump take the weight of the engine? I would use board as big as the the sump.
Very thorough, thanks for pointing out the mistakes I would make if you hadn't warned me.You are a born teacher.
Does this mean the standard 2.0tdci 150ps can be mapped to the same power as the st. And also up to 250bhp at stage 2 just like the focus st at stage 2?
I think we'd all like to take Monika for a test drive!
I have a titanium with the same 2l diesel engine, what is the best oil to run in these engines? I know you mention 0w- 30 but what brand is best? Does the oil have to be a certain specification? Thanks
happens on my 3008 2.0 hdi a couple of months before service is due leak from the filter and its always because its worked loose
My wife owned a 16 plate one of these from new for a couple of years. Was plagued by constant DPF blockage issues inc a bunt out dpf atomiser after 4K. Long runs didn’t clear the dpf when the light was on and once it even came on after a 80 mile motorway run.
Was fed up of using the Forscan program to force regen’s every few weeks.
Sold it in the end and bought a petrol Audi.
In total contrast my MK5 mondeo with the same engine has covered 102k and has never had an issue with the dpf or even brought the light on.
Was a shame to have to get rid of it as it was a great car to drive with plenty of low down torque.
Dpf delete.
@@Hellndegenerates How do you pass the MOT? Any way to tell visually? I have this exact car (2017 Focus ST3 diesel) albeit the estate version. And what about car insurance with regards to the DPF delete? Cheers.
Great video very informative. Do these diesel ST versions have a timing chain or is it a belt?
Belt
I've got a MK4 Mondeo 2.5t if you want to do some content on it mate 👍
looking to get one of these next year :)
My wife is the only one in our family who does top up the washer bottle.
Hi. I know this was a year ago but what fuel filter did you use?
Two questions spring to mind, how does she drive in those shoes and how does she get into those trousers :)
Hi Alan! Fun videos as usual! Do you put 0w30 oil in all the diesel cars? Also what can happen if my local service put 5w30 in my 1.5 tdci? :-$
yes i use ow/30 in all these engines but i don't think 5w/30 will hurt, the reason they use ow/30 is because it is low ash oil and good for the longenity of the dpf
You know that pipe on the fuel filter you said don't force, I did... snap. New part ordered and the car isn't moving for a few days
i too have broke one in the past,
@@alan4x is there a way of loosening some bolts around the filter housing to gain a bit more wiggle room?
@@darren4428 there are 4 10mm headed bolts holding the filter housing aluminium casing to the engine...if you loosen them you will get a bit more room to remove that awkward pipe
The one time i forgot to put abit of oil on my filter seal it crapped itself after a few weeks and sprayed its oil all over john street roundabout in rochdale
Hi Allan, can I just say good video. But a bit early with music. Carol of the bells in summer🤔
Alan, ever driven a TXS mk4 mondeo? They are specced out too. Mines got everything you can think of lol. love it.
And 200bhp, or atleast my 2.2 does
@@dehv yep same here 👍
Those back fuel pipe connections can be a bastard to get on, I end up undoing part of the bracket that holds the pipes together on top of the engine to give just a little more movement.
Totally agree. There is so little movement on the pipe to push it back on.
Question for you Alan, what's your thoughts on filling the oil filter before fitting?
My first thought as well.
Oh no not another video about an oil change. :-) Great video, thank you. Alan what's the change interval on the fuel filter on this engine please?
20,000 miles
But do it more often. Only around 12-16 quid online
@@vp5 Got one and did it today. Mine was probably the original one with 30,000 miles on it. Simply done when following this video. :-)
Really nice car BUT make mine a mondeo ST .You seem to know what your doing I reckon you've done it all before 😆😂😀👍👌
Hi Alan, any idea how many litres capacity these have?
, wonderful car, but, this is not a multilink back?
Do you ever use an oil engine flush. ???
So same engine as the taxis what sort of miles they good for ?
You saying ford's recommended NM for tightening the oil filter is not enough?
have you ever work on a focus RS ?
you look good with that car monica 💛
My question is. Has any one got the colour code for the old BT van paint to do a comparison?
Should try my dad's XFR 5L V8 Supercharged ;)
But in all seriousness I'm actually surprised, I haven't looked at the St series but I didn't think they'd be using a 2l diesel? Maybe a 2L petrol or something
The st range should only come with petrol engines but ford seam to think that people actually want a diesel st .I don’t get the point a diesel is supposed to be economical and boring and a st sporty and uneconomical and why would you want to own a std no thanks
What about the air and cabin filters? :P
2l diesel? Why is it a diesel. My 2017 st is gas. I had no idea that it was also made in a diesel. Mind Blown.
Marie was jolly.
lol
Can I bring mine down for oil service how much u charge I’ve got the exactly the same car in the same colour too lol 😆
Morning Alan and Monica 😄 You must try hot pants for your CZcams family lol 😂 If I lived locally I'd definitely use you for my car servicing especially when you oil your ring hehe 😂 That's some motor but at at 20K plus a lot o dosh for a Ford 😂 You could imagine the faces on your taxi drivers if you re-mapped their cars 🤣 Take care till the next so see ya 👍🏻 Cheers Stevie 😎
Don't you have to prime the New oil filter before putting it back on also did you change the pollen filter Great video Alan
you can prime the filter but many cars because of the angle the filter sits at you can't, there is a fuse you are supposed to remove and then crank the engine over a number of times to get the oil through the filter but probably best to just half fill the filter..no i didn't change the pollen filter on that car, cheers john
I love to meet Monica 😍
I am just curious. Why u didnt bleed the system after changing fuel filter?
there is an electric pump in the fuel tank to push the fuel through so no bleeding required
Alan how often should the fuel filter be changed ? i'm guessing the ST you are working on as done about 25k.Tangerine Scream lovely colour.
Well car will come up with error and.go into LIMP mode when you are giving it beans.. usually 35k on others. Intervals are in car user manual
The mileage my car had done at the time Alan did this video was on 22k and this was its third service. I changed the air filter myself with a Bosch one.
@@neilandbradley6845 air filter is different though
dean lewis, the service interval for years 1 and 2 is just oil and filter and at year 2 is a pollen filter, year 3 is oil, fuel and air filter. I got a Bosch one as they were on offer at euro car parts half price so did that myself a few weeks ago.
