      I'm not sure the exact measurement, but even a few inches can throw the whole system off. I'd suggest making an adjustable one with a friction hitch. Once you've got a good length figured out for you, you know how long to make a fixed, permanent one.

    The foot lanyard provides a stable position for the free leg while you advance the climbing leg. It is static to the device on the rope. So it's not actually doing any ascending. Excellent videos. 🎉

    • @zaccheus
      @zaccheus  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The device does not ascend during that step, but the body of the climber does. The progress of the body is captured by the next step with the foot ascender, not the device like it would traditionally be captured in a typical ascent system with a knee ascender.

  • @rupatrupa7487
    @rupatrupa7487 Před 11 měsíci

    I try it a few times. it does work... the "placebo ascender" works as a way of letting your foot rest on a rope to feel that you can step up. even thou you are not necessarily gaining height on the rope. in short I think a knee ascender still has his place and provides a more efficient way to go up. ALSO GREAT TO KNOW THIS as a less equip option

    • @zaccheus
      @zaccheus  Před 11 měsíci

      If you set it up right, you can gain height on the rope. It does take a bit of work to get it tuned to perfection. It also depends on what device you use. The akimbo has the least amount of set back out of the devices I have. Your right though, it's not as efficient as a knee ascender.

    • @zaccheus
      @zaccheus  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I'm 5' 11" or so, and I have no idea what length the foot lanyard is. The best way to find out what length you like is to make an adjustable lanyard with a taughtline or similar knot. That was it's easy to make it linger or short as you try it.

    • @zaccheus
      @zaccheus  Před 4 měsíci +1

      No problem! I would expect it to worl with the RRP. This system does depend on the device having minimal upward drag and little set back. I think those two things might make it difficult to use a rope wrench and hitch, but you could try 🤷‍♂️

    • @imaphxaznative
      @imaphxaznative Před 4 měsíci

      @zaccheus sorry last comment, probably. So I'm new to climbing/ have only ever climbed on a closed system MRT, clove hitched to my biner, and Blake hitched to the standing rope. It works bc it's ez to retrieve my climbing line since the end of the rope is always with in reach. My question is if I switch to SRT, how do you generally retrieve your climbing rope from the ground, and are all these fancy rope wrenches, zigzag, RRP, Akimbo mostly there for taking weight off the friction hitch otw down so it doesn't lock up? If that's the case, why not climb up without them, still using your preferred ascenders, of course, then swith to MRT after ur anchored in @ the top so you have only ½ your weight on the friction hitch so it never locks and the added benefit of being able to retrieve your climbing line from the ground. Honest question from someone who's only ever used prusicks to climb SRT

    • @zaccheus
      @zaccheus  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @imaphxaznative haha not a problem, leave as many comments as you want! I'm always happy to offer any help I can.
      I have a video on basic SRT anchors and it covers the answer to that question as I recall. czcams.com/video/4yjbVgiqZsg/video.html
      The rope wrench is designed to less the load on the prusik, but some of those other devices you mentioned are made to be used without a prusik. They can generate enough friction on the rope to support a person.
      I've heard some folks ascend SRT and then switch over to DRT to work the rest of the tree. The benefit that everyone references is that it's easier to limb walk with the mechanical advantage of DRT. If you ascend this way, it's just super important to make sure you have a method of progress capture that is rated for life support. I prefer to work the whole tree with srt because it allows me to move around faster even if I'm only taking a few steps. Everyone has their own preference, though, and that is the beautiful thing about tree work.

      Haha, I use this system all the time up in the tree if I need to ascend a little or a lot. It's just so easy to whip out or store. It does lack the efficiency a knee ascender has, but it can be close with enough fine tuning.
