when I was a kid I remember half-pressing the buttons on my walkman to do the same thing for $20
Adjusted for inflation and you probably still 10 for the same price
Poverty fucks don’t understand economy of scale lmao
It’s funny you say that, that’s how I ended up becoming a local DJ back in the days
Of course that used a physical cassette and produced a much lower quality signal. You could also physically scratch records on your turn table to achieve the sound from the front pad. Afaik this is the only device that can mimick both of those behaviors digitally in real time and preserve quality.
Not saying it's worth the price, but no doubt there was a lot of thought that went into it.
Have you ever owned any of their gear? There’s nothing like it on the market. It’s well made stuff. My op-1 field and ko-2 are really the only instruments I use now, and I have a very robust studio at my disposal 🤣
I'm fully aware this is completely useless to me, and I know being Teenage Engineering it'll cost the same as a diamond-encrusted block of cocaine, but i still kind of want one
It’s $1499. Seriously.
Only professional musicians could probably justify this.
But even then……
If you're ok with homebrewing, that center dial looks like a plate mounted to a motor (the center shiny bit is part of the motor). With an Arduino, a compact motor (probably servo, you'll want current-control resistors and analog feedback of the voltage that _reaches_ the coils), some buttons, and sheet metal, you could build a USB (or even stand-alone) version. Maybe $50 on the high end.
it'll cost $1500 and be as durable as a paper umbrella in a hurricane
An SC1000 MK2 is better and 1/5 the price!
Teenage Engineering: You Can’t Afford It
I can.
@@jeltoninc.8542yeah we dont really care.
@@jeltoninc.8542 We do not care lmao, you want an award?

Track 2: Inner City Chronicles - mitch murder
Ghangamstyle at last
Looks like it would be fun for about as long as this short.
it’s a recording device. it’s not meant for fun, it’s meant to be used.
@@dotCashark it would want to be fun to use because at this price it has little else in its favor!
@@dotCasharkIt's a baby turntable!😊
If they were 300, I'd buy 2!
@@dotCasharknot for 1400
Behringer should make a clone for 99 usd.
99 is stoic, I'm sure this is at least a few $100 in parts alone, but I thought the same thing about Behringer ripping it off lol
99 is too much for a tiny peace of plastic
Behringer could do it for 50
Behringer might give money for you to get it
Fr. Behringer actually gets it - cool stuff people can afford
Cool but I’m gonna have to mortgage my home first
nice pfp
This looks incredibly fun, I wish it wasn't so expensive...
Just buy a cheap cassette player. It can do most of the things this can.
For something so expensive I wasn’t expecting the platter to wobble like that
agree, you noticed!
Yep, hard pass from me. These things are going to break over time, there's no doubt in my mind
exactly!!
that disk is really wobbly lol
It's meant to be. That WHOLE DAMN SURFACE is one giant pressure, motion, AND acceleration sensitive haptic touch feedback pad with incredibly fine control. That's some serious engineering.
Beautifull, remember the Bauhaus and Braun style, but 1499 it is like a knife in my kidney. I wish to have that money to play.
This makes the TX-6 firmware update for DJ mode make more sense now
Waiting berringer version at 10$
Yeah, Behringer, get on it!
Or literally anyone, please give us a single track sampler with scratch functionally and an actual motorized platter for under $1,000
Shut up and take my house
Man they make the coolest little music moduals things idk what you would call all of them but theres some real neat shot out there nowdays
They should add a fader
Yuuuuup
Need two to go with that little $1000 mixer
Smarty sampler. I would to say: pocket DJ
Cool asf but I won’t pay 1500
Teenage Engineering is the Apple of audio gear
Don’t take it anywhere sandy.
Like all TE gear, it's amazing. But horribly, horribly overpriced.
only the PO K.O. or the Street Fighter PO are reasonable imo
@@wavyeenare there any major differences between the two? I think I've seen cookin soul using his signature version and it looked pretty solid. Also curious if you like one more than the other
@@afk_hesh The street fighter one is the best since it's literally the K.O. but it has a really nice street fighter bank in it, also the display is way cooler :)
What should it cost?
@@ComsiCaterpillar in an ideal world it'd be $30-$50 but what most people who complain about TE's prices don't understand is that between quality, affordability and quantity, a manufacturer can really only choose two. (Unless you're Amazon. And TE may be popular but they're still a niche audio company.) And they choose quality and as much quantity as they can.
More please !
Remake Home Alone 2 with this as the Talkboy.
Thank God for the VSTs that do all of this
very tempted to try and mix with this.
I am scrolling through the comments to see a viable reason to get this because I can't figure it out by myself
The price for this is crazy!!!!!!
Looks very cool but that side clamp for ff/rw looks like it can break very easily just by staying in your pocket
It’s solid aluminum with a stainless steel hinge pin. The build quality is high.
It's 1500$!!!! Who's walking around with that in their pocket unprotected?!?!
Ohhhhh these are *decks*
That are also high end recorders
Making more sense now…
1800$ 😮
I love this new set.
teenage engineering have jumped the shark. only 24bit recording for $1500 lol
Right . . . I'd probably be able to swallow the price if it were 8 tracks and at least a couple being 32-bit. It's inexcusable, 32bit isn't just slightly better, it's 10x easier to use for mic / mic'd instruments. The TP-7 would do for synth tracks, but who wants their $1200 mic if the recorder isn't 32-bit . . . the CM-15 mic should have a internal 32 bit recorder, then I'd buy that too, but T.E. nails ergonomics but flops on specs.
Naw you literally can’t tell the difference lmao 🤣 yall are funny just say you can’t afford it and move on.
It just like edjing mix DJ app
I love blumchen
The aesthetic is next level. Any way to cut so you can scratch properly?
Run it through a battle mixer
Its dope! I do want it!
…And then he put it down and never played with it again. 😂
I remember downloading a free app and doing this
its quite easy to do on a computer, the only real functionality here IMO is the moving deck and the've put a mess of expensive tech around it that i dont want. There're cheaper units that do just as much that cost less, what i really wanna see on the market is a an affordable usb controller of this style, possibly with VST that interfaces directly to make it a bit more feature rich
“Toying” is the right word.
cannot wait!
Lol
I like the design, but its purpose is questionable. Teenage Engineering have successfully created a distinctive brand (which I admire) that has a loyal customer base who will be prepared to buy any product from them just because it’s made by them, even if the product is just a gimmick with little functionality.
Can’t wait to get one

Le plus bel objet de l’univers 😍
I wonder what format the tracks are recorded in. Mp3 or wav?
I want this but as an extension to Ableton.
there is already one, the dj device for mastering chain. you can use knobs to do the same.
❤❤❤❤❤
Omg I want this
It would have been useful if it had a cross fader on it. As it is it will be an expensive mp3 player. With an unusual way to jog through your tunes. A cross fader would mean you could mix scratch sounds into them.
this is a field recorder, not a mixer. teenage engineering offers the TX-6 which has 6 inputs with individual motorized faders and has a dj mode to to exactly what you're saying here.
@@adisoncardoso for another $1,000 and some.
@@rodnee2340 yes, but what would expect to pay for a mixer that's fully-fledged and smaller than an iPhone whilst also being built like a tank?
@@adisoncardoso that's some praise. But that brings me back to the mp3 on steroids. They really could have put a little cross fader on it. Also they seemed to have put a hefty price tag on their gear since the OP-1 feald. I think I will stick to my minifreak as I don't need the portability of the teenage engineering stuff. And I work mostly in my DAW anyway except when I need some analog sounds. Then I use my hefty Moog GM or my eurorack.
That’s a fancy forward and reverse wheel. Reminds me of the iPod.
iPoop
...Why tho? What is the purpose of this mechanised jog dial? I can't disagree that the engineering and aesthetics are top notch, but what is this going to be used for? I can just see some rich kid buying two of these to beat match with that daft little mixer they just released. Congratulations TE We've come full circle with two turntables and a mixer😂
Nice
Reminds me of the Talkboy
Wish I had the 3k to drop on this 😍😍
Looks like Virtual DJ Deck as hardware...
You could do this on youre dj equipment you already have 😅
You could buy a hella good scratch style dj set for less than this fr
I really wish i could like this brand, but i've realized there whole vibe is jsut to take good indie equipment designs, make them weirder, make them do less, add 1 hipstery feature that doesn't help you make music, then ratchet up the price to a ridiculous extent.
Wasnt expecting to hear random Blumchen
Anyone wants to buy a good kidney still fresh in my body😂😂😂
Take my money!!!!
I'm not gonna check but I bet it's a fortune

"TE" -The luxury lifestyle tiny tech company.
Totally . . . but as an 80's kid that had a Casio and a DAT they sure know how to come after my money
@@ComsiCaterpillar Yamaha's VSS-30 has always been better than Casio's SK-1. I had both as a kid in the 80's. But I've also had a CZ-101 since the later 80's. Not a fan of TE. bought the PO-35, and when it arrived the screen was broken, and I realized the knobs are way too close together. I returned it for a refund. I remember when the original OP-1 came out. It was too expensive then, for what it is. I would soon be invested in the Nord Mod G2, which I played every day for more than a half decade, and sold on. TE is sleazy, if you ask me.
@@DetroitMicroSound I still have a VSS-30 . . . good Sh1t. I like the original OP-1 but only as a sampler, I wouldn't compare it to a Nord cause the OP-1 is weak as a synth. I think it's worth the $750 they go for used, I wouldn't pay $2k for the new one though. I shouldn't want the TP-7 but I really do. I find ZOOM recorders so hideous . . . they look like a prop from the original Ghostbuster Movie
@@ComsiCaterpillar Really just comparing prices (cost for value, capabilities, etc) of the hardware at the time I bought my G2. I had three other samplers, a bunch of other stuff, plus Ableton Live, at the time.
@@DetroitMicroSound There is so much good gear out there these days, finding a synth you like is easy, so unlike 15 years ago. I even like making tunes on my Gameboy. I got so many sound makers . . . I'm not even really looking for more, that's why I like the TP-7, it's just what I need . . . MIC and REC is where my journey is current at. I've got great REC options at home, but nothing I like to take with me . . . and it seems I'm more creative when NOT at home :/
I'm definitely not the target audience for Teenage Engineering, but I'm increasingly unsure who is. While watching this and assuming it was much much cheaper, I thought "well it does seem like it would be fun to play around with, but I'd realistically probably just use it for one-off effects that I can already do with plugins that cost $0-50 or eurorack if I want to be more hands on." I will be really interested to see if people actually do use it for anything more substantial that one-off effects though. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's hard for me to imagine what that would be like🤔
the target audience seems to just be music production CZcamsrs at this point. they are the only ones i ever see buy these things. not sure how they are still profitable
blumchen!
You can buy an actual CDJ for less than this
You're obviously not asian enough to understand.

£400 . . . . maybe, even then it would be a luxury to save up for, but £1300 !
