Awesome interview! Shaping is about finding the right balance and compromises. With 3" thickness, and especially with concave and a narrow width, to get a relatively thin/down rail, the deck gets more domey... So it depends what one is going for. Flatter deck + knifey rails needs a bit less thickness at the stringer for a given width. In terms of durability, I've been using s-glass and epoxy to laminate. Better strength than e glass for the same glass schedule (and weight) when used with epoxy, just as easy to use, but somewhat more expensive.
