      Very easy to do. Draw a circle that is 24”. Now look at the hand sizes that are available. Draw a circle at 8” and 10” and make a decision as to which looks better. It all up to the visual appear based on your design and any added artwork on the clock face.

    Good idea with obtaining the clock face image. However, once you have found the image you want to use, have you tried "Copy Image", open 3D Paint, when it opens, it has the option to paste. Click paste and 3D Paint will open with your image. Use "Crop" as needed. Save your image to desired location as an image. 3D Paint will save it as a PNG file. Open up InkScape, import your PNG image. No need to use trace bit map. The image will be scalable. Hope this helps.👍😀

    When you added the star to it, that made it the insignia of a Senior Chief Petty Officer (E-8). The star, does point down in this case.
    Without the star, it is a Chief Petty Officer insignia. ENC(SW)

    Nice build Paw Paw. Lovely clean cut with the fine downcut. Very fragile looking bit, no breakages? I thought US stars would have been point upwards? Was that a personal preference or special reason?
    Nifty trick with the screwdriver. I use m6 Allen bolts & 1in knurled threaded discs, enough weight & mass in them to speed spin down the bolt & apply plenty of torque for holding pressure.

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  Před 3 lety +1

      No breakages did it with one bit. This is the senior chief badge. The star points down. Do not know why. Thank you very much.

      The inverted star is used to show a position of responsibility but is inverted so as not to confuse it with the upright star reserved for use by Flag Officers.

    And what was the TOTAL machining time. It looked like you went into the night when you showed the light while it carved. 27 thumbs up but only my comment. You are as helpful at this as I.D.C.WOODCRAFT IS. Wish I lived close so I could come and visit some but I'm in TEXAS. Where did you get the 1/16 or 1/32 bits from??

      I just turned the lights out in the shop. It gave the video an interesting effect. With the 1/32" bit, it did take several hours.

    Sorry if the answer is already in here but how did you end up finishing the clock face? Is it paint or resin? Great video as always but one critique which I think you have started to do is even if it’s a sped up version of finishing the item just include that or tell us what you did! Inquiring minds want to know lol.

    Thank you and have a great day.

    • @PawPawsWorkShop

    What were your feed speed/plunge rate on the 1/32 in bit? I’ve broken two already trying to cut something similar

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  Před 3 lety

      The feed rate was 30"/min and the plunge rate was .015" and the plunge rate was 12"/min

    @29goshawk Před 2 lety

    I know most don't share this info, but I have found myself breaking 1/32 bits all time with 4040-xe 300w spindle. What feed rates and depth per pass are you using?

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  Před 2 lety +1

      Start with a very slow feed rate of around 30ipm and a depth per pass of about .05. I also depends on the material. Start shallow and slow and gradually increase. The machine will tell you

      Both cnc machines are very capable. It really depends on the space you have available in your shop and how big are the projects that you are planning on making.
