I think you may be in the minority in that. Most of their videos didn't generate great views and had very little community engagement. Personally, I think they didn't have great chemistry and had other issues. Sandra has great knowledge and insights but isn't great on-camera and communicating well (compare her to just Jenny Chiu who's lightyears ahead with her delivery and comfortability on-camera) while Lisa had better on-camera presence and communication but wasn't the most knowledgeable and insightful.
But, I think there's a little more to it honestly. Maybe it's just a feeling, but it seems Lisa may have been picked over Sandra for physical appearance reasons. I've noticed that on the podcast Sandra typically is wearing what she wants with chill clothing and sports gear but when interviewed for the show she wears more conventional, "professional" clothing and makeup. It could just be speculation, but my gut tells me something like that has been going on behind the scenes.

In the group stage, yes. The USWNT were mostly disjointed and out of synch. Vs Sweden, they had the best ball movement and possession of their time in this tournament. They just struggled to finish. Some was their own doing, others were down to how exceptional the Swedish goalie played. If they would have started the WWC the way they played Sweden, they are in the semifinals at least.

@@petercorley6102 Yeah, but the point is they didn't. They were consistently bad in the Group stage, against lesser teams, and then couldn't find a way to score against an under-performing Swedish offensive in the first knock-out stage. Tbh it's not that likely the US would have made the Semis - even with the advantage of momentum.
Compare that to England (also under-performed sometimes in this WC) yet consistently found ways to grind out wins when they're not always at their best. They're now in the Final after an excellent Semi performance.

Talking about Darian's choice: Laura Harvey, I wonder if there was a kind of an identity crisis in this WWC. There was the 'old guard,' (I'm sure there's a better way to put that) and these young guns (again, welcoming help 😁) and it didn't feel to me like they were 100% the same team out there. Maybe it's a case of awkward and unfortunate timing (which I also wonder isn't maybe a result of COVID 19 screwing up how teams & players were 'supposed' to grow & develop)? Dunno, but it's pretty inconceivable to me that the next WWC will look the same as this one (in a few exciting ways!).

this list seems like it was thrown together in 10 minutes after we lost the round of 16…
Why are we trying to take other teams head coaches? Sarina Wiegman is busy with England(they are still in the WC), Tony Gustavvson used to be as assistant coach to the US…. Let him be happy? Australia is still in the WC.
Why can’t we focus on NWSL club coaches? It’s extremely arrogant to think these coaches would leave their successful teams to coach the US. Y’all are out of your minds if you think Emma Hayes is leaving Chelsea to coach the US.
Then, having coaches in here whose teams went out in the group stage… how does that make any sense??? Why would we want to replace Vlatko with Vlatko 2.0? Bev Priestman has had time to shift the teams focus away from having Christine Sinclair being the number 9, but it’s been the same old players and no innovation. No young talent incorporated. Not a surprise they went out so early.
Not a single college coach on this list. And to throw Jill Ellis on this list? Do you even watch women’s soccer at all? This is a poor list with clearly no thought at all.

I get your optimism but a couple of your potential choices are established coaches with the teams they manage. That sounds like an obvious statement. Emma Hayes has spent years and a lot of hard work building the beast of a team that is Chelsea, wants the ECL more than anything, has a young son she adores, all her family are in London. Sarina is currently the highest paid international female manager in the game with massive support from an impressive FA and more young talent coming through. After this WC performance she will want to continue building this exciting team which she has only managed since late 2021. The US women's program has bigger problems than their coach. The rest of the world has caught up physically, athletically and are better at the technical aspects of football. The team needs a complete rebuild and yes a new coach is a good place to start but you all need to look outwards, export more players to non US leagues. E.g. Sophia Smith at her young age and with her talent playing somewhere like a Chelsea or Wolfsburg would improve massively. Only two of your national team play outside the US and it now shows when you play international games.

I doubt Sarina Wiegman is going to the US (certainly anytime soon - maybe one day?). Why should she? She has a four year contract with England. The FIA have delivered on their spending/infrastructure commitment promises. She's won her second Euro Championship with England in 2022 and is now through to an unprecedented second World Cup final - with a team that can win (despite having lots of injury problems!). She also has a great relationship with the England team she's built up in the last two years.
No doubt it would be a major career opportunity to potentially take a third different national team to a WC final one day (completely unprecedented!), and the US can throw a lot of money at it; but I'm not sure if that's where her motivation is. Plus, the US team comes with a lot of complicated baggage that England doesn't have.

National team isn't the place to develop players. Players spend more time with their clubs and even in men's football development is mainly by the club. National team can play a role when they are still playing for youth teams(U20 and below). If she is playing for the Thorns as a striker and doing well, National team should also find an effective way to use her as a striker.

I should be the coach, why?
    Unlike Vlatko, I am smart.
Smart enough to tell the team: You are the best players in the world and it is your responsibility to design the strategy to win, based on your individual skill set. You decide who among the American youth to join your team. Alex Morgan has the same voting privilege as Alyssa Thompson
As your coach, my responsibility is to make your journey pleasant, I will take care of the day to day stuff like hotel, shoes , meals.
And keep Rapinoe out of the training grounds, I may tell them stories about the dark energy of the expanding universe or the life of Spain poet Federico García Lorca

The rationale for why the US lost is off-target. Most of what is written is about emotional deficiencies or political views or pointing to the coach. Are these the reasons that at the women's U20 and U17 the US has been floundering for many years? The youth world cups are more like a Spanish/Japanese invitational tournament, with the US commonly failing to advance past the group stages. Spain's coach Vilda is unqualified, but he has a roster loaded with players who are tactically and technically outstanding. Those who say the rest of the world has "caught up" and "we've lost the joy" are missing the picture. The US was passed in quality some time ago.
US development favors physicality, speed, individual technical skills, pay for play... ODP, National team and university teams measure players' 40 yard dash times as a key criteria, and take note of a player doing double-scissor moves and turn moves when a simple pass is available. Does Barca's youth academy line kids up to measure their 40 meter dash times? Should they have clocked Aitana and Busquets? To use an American equivalent, it's like measuring Tom Brady on track and field metrics and failing to note that he tends to make good decisions. Soccer players, like QBs, have to constantly read the situation and make decisions, similar to a QB role. Europe is producing creative, size-variable, tactical players who are promoted, not entirely, but in great part, on decision making, awareness, creativity, tactical IQ, etc.. This is not about passion, gender rights, ego or even the coach... it's because players can think and pass the ball faster than players can run and now that European/Japanese etc teams can field full teams with capable players, they will continue to move the ball around our athletic individuals.
The US men's side is at least in part on the right track, drawing from players who develop in European-styled systems. The women's side is going to hover in the 5-10 range until they change player development and national selections to weigh towards players with characteristics needed to be successful in the modern game. Those players likely exist in the fringes of the US development system.

Carli Lloyd was not the most respected player on the USWNT. She was thought to be self centered and selfish on the pitch who didn't always play hard on both sides of the field. In addition, I believe she was one of the players who tried to get Jill Ellis fired as US head coach before the 2019 WC. I would choose a U12 recreation coach over her.

First task the new coach will have is to clean house. If there are players currently that are not happy representing their country, they got to go no matter who they are. Bring in players that love American and are ready to represent their country, you want all 23 players in the same pace. First team meeting show them how team Colombia sang their national anthem before every World Cup game. That is how is done.

    • @heathermacleish7171
      @heathermacleish7171 Před 10 měsíci +4

lol, all the players on the current roster love representing USA, this was their dream, and their pain comes from not bringing a championship back to their country. Also, singing and soccer ability are not correlated. FYI Colombia is eliminated. Colombia made history because of their soccer ability on the pitch. USA won the world cup in 2015 and 2019, and it wasn't because they were choir singers rehearsing the anthem. It's a joke to think that the US women are not grateful for all this country has to offer women. Women are always fighting for better working conditions for the next generation, ridding the workplace of sexist, mentally destructive coaches. At the same time US women also realize the advantages they have compared to the bleak and rare opportunities other countries offer to their women. To wear the US crest is an absolute honor for any and all women who have been on the USWNT. None of them take for granted being American, they all are proud and show the world how strong women really are.
