Solo hike and wild camp in the Yorkshire Dales

  • This hike and wildcamp was planned to take in a lesser-known Dales 2000 footer and one of the 'Dales 30' I hadn't done. Hoped for glorious May-time spring conditions seemed a world away and conditions in the upper reaches of the dale seemed most unseasonal and almost wintry at times.

I love your videos Chris, they are a balm for the soul with the wide open spaces, birds and plant life explained, and the general peace and calm of them. They're essential viewing in todays hectic world (I find anyway). When I can't get there myself it's the next best thing. Reminds me of long walks with my uncle in Calderdale.

The bog to end all bogs! Jeeeze it was ominous looking, well done for making it through and around that, the trig said it all! Wise move to move on for a picth, very wise. Bet that was hard work, be neigh on impossible in the winery huh! The old stone building was a great pitch and sock airer! Only so much the Sealskins will take hey, defo time for some new boots Chris, it's been a wet old May and that shows it. Well done you 🤗👍🏕 your efforts made for a very watchable video, thank you and catch you soon, Ceri and Kat ☕❤

Hello you two, hope all is well. I've been meaning to get this one out of the way for a year or two now so at least I have and will never have to venture on that God-forsaken moor ever again 😀! The problem is when doing the Dales 30, the last few I have (6 I think) are the ones I've been putting off, ie the grim ones! My boots have gone at just the right time as I typically wear trail runners in the summer months but will need to get sorted for autumn and winter. Many thanks for watching and commenting. Take care, Chris

That bog reminds me of the Pennine Way as it crosses the Cheviots. Deeeeep bottomless and just wider than you can leap with a heavy rucksack....has been very unusual this year for the weather. Time for some new boots me thinks...atb Chris.

Great area Chris, Ive heard the reputation of the bogs up there. Similar experience on my last Lakes one, stretch from High Tove to Armbouth Fell. Should have taken my boots off and waded it 😂. Know what you mean about the weather. A good one I use for the nose is fold your beanie down over your eyes and just have the bottom of your nose poking out, works well for me 🙂 TFS 👍

How do Dave. My boots have just gone at the right time as it's trail runner season now. I do like the quiet remote places for sure. Another good un Chris, HubberHolme church is fantastic, mousy Thompson everywhere, if you look at my Outershaw Tarn I touch on how terrible that trip is to Yockenthwaite Moor, one thing I will say it’s probably the reason most people don’t bother which probably means you would normally get it to yourself.
Treat yourself to some new boots pal and take care 😊👏👏👏👏👏
