Nostalgia, Still remember when I was in primary school and we would do plays at church. I mean I'm an atheist and my parents are not Christians but it was truly special days. It's not the same nowadays :(
I had a similar upbringing one of my parents is still something of an atheist, at some point in my life I realized I was only screwing up my life in my own way(s) being agnostic. I went back to Mass, bible study, and decided to take the Gospel into serious consideration in attempt to turn things around, which is terribly difficult perhaps since I put it off so long; but God spoke to me in a way I never thought possible. The journey is extremely difficult but I'm still at it, keeping in mind what I have experienced I have to keep at it. If there was something I would have done differently, I would hands listened more to my God-Parents advice about taking it slowly, little by little one day at a time. Like you it had been 23 years since I felt that "Special holiday Joy" I experienced in my childhood. Which is indoubtly the Holy Spirit I felt it immediately after the first prayer of the Holy Rosary at an "America Needs Fatima" gathering, everyone paused after that first prayer and I knew what "It" was in the midst of that hot summer day. Nowadays I gave given up video games and television to make a change in the culture. I hope and pray that you open yourself to catechism, its an unforgettable experience if you are daring enough to dive deep.

Probably my favourite Christmas Carol as well as God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. I remember singing these carols at my school's Christmas service every year.
We used to put up a Christmas nativity play at out church as children and we would always sing this song. Brings back good memories. However, there were these three 12 year old boys who felt they were to old to participate in said Christmas play and came up with an "alternate arrangement" to the song which spread quickly among the children and could be heard sung while waiting for rehearsals. It went something like this. "We three kings of orient are, trying to smoke a rubber cigar, it was loaded and exploded, now we're on yonder star." I have not been able to hear this song without thinking about it since.
Memories. I remember singing this in the annual Christmas concert with 3 or 4 other schools. 3 years in a row I did that.
Hearing this again makes me tear up,WHY CANT WE GO BACK TO PRIMARY SCHOOL?!
