    I just bought my polygel around a week or two ago, and honestly this is the first video I've seen that actually highlights some of the struggles with polygel. Everyone seems to make it look so easy, and I don't not believe them but when I first got my kit, I was so sad mine didn't come out nearly as easy as everyone else's. I still think it's user error, but I seriously underestimated how much the stickiness would get EVERYWHERE, and how much the dual forms didn't fit my cuticle. Someone as skilled as Suzie even had a small learning curve, so as a complete amateur I feel a little better about not getting it right away
    Edit: thank you for the likes, I feel less alone!! I agree with many people in the replies that dual forms just don’t seem to fit my nail bed well enough. I’ll continue giving it a shot and wish everyone else good luck too!

I feel like the videos I see about tips for poly gel are all about making sure the prep is good, and how to make sure polygel stays on for a long time but my problem is I can barely even get them on to begin. Do you recommend a brand? Gershion seems really soft to mold, I got Makartt since it was so popular but I find it tricky so far

    • @ascs4944
      @ascs4944 Před 5 lety +13

      I HATE dual forms (I learned with acrylic and forms). I also have really flat nail beds so the dual forms never fit me right. But I love the poly gel. There is a learning curve. But I actually really like using poly gel with tips or a regular acrylic form. My sister has a much more "normal" curve to her nails so she likes the dual forms since it's just a practice makes perfect thing. I can almost guarantee that these inexperienced people trying dual forms for the first time and making them look perfect, have broken nails days later. It's hard to get the apex thick enough in the right spot. Keep trying! The persistence will pay off!

    Hey Suzie! First off, one of your few male viewers reporting here lol but I personally find that adding a small bit of polygel to the outer edge of the nail in a thin layer and fully curing before using the poppits really helps with building the apex. I feel like it's just impossible to get a working thickness by just placing it on the base coat directly. Also by not putting the thin pre-layer around the cuticle, you can still get that fade into the cuticle you always talk about! Hope this helps someone cause it changed the game for me. You just have to perfect that pre-layer before the dual form goes on to get a perfect apex.
    Side note: you've inspired me so much and taught me even more. I love every one of your videos and get Grant back in for more videos! We need to normalize guys wearing nails! Love you and cameraman both to the moon and back!

    Suzie.. u CAN actually add more of the polygel to the cured dual form nail after first layer .. u just have to file /rough up the first layer nail before and u can add more layers with either the dual form or by just applying the polygel directly on top of the nail 😘😜
    U can also apply the dual form just to form a nail tip and not applying the form all the way down the whole nail towards cuticle 😋
    So ya as long as u rough up the 1st layer of polygel that u applied with dual form u can add more 🥰

    @MrsPolinaJimenez Před 5 lety +3

    Great video, Susie!
    Just a couple of pointers, that might be helpful for the viewers. Try to pick a dual form that fits the nail properly, it’s not a tip, it’s a form so some room for the apex is crustal and it has to fit from side to side. Sometimes it’s better to get a little bigger form than smaller.
    The sticky layer on dual form would be on the underside of nail, not on top, since the sticky layer would be where gel gets cured with contact with air. Which is under the nail. I hope I am clear enough 😂
    When you applying the form to the nail, don’t place it straight at the cuticle, place it 2-4 mm away and then slide it to the cuticle, that way you won’t have that ridge.
    I hope it was helpful to someone.

    • @calichef1962
      @calichef1962 Před 5 lety +10

      @Leslile Renfro-- Actually, you can use the dual forms ON TOP of nail tips, if you like, just be sure to rough up the surface a bit. Then you won't have to worry about the underside of the dual form being full of hybrid gel. You just have to be careful at the leading edge of the tip and only put the hybrid gel out a tiny bit past the end of the nail tip, but it's easy to just sweep it away with the brush. Kirsty Meakin on the Naio Nails channel demonstrates it beautifully. I'm sure you can find it by searching for Naio Nails, nail tip with Acrygel. (Acrygel is the Naio Nails brand of hybrid gel.) The Nailed by Nikki channel also demonstrates the hybrid gel over tips a few times, as well, both with and without dual forms.

    My Mom bought me a hybrid gel kit online last year for a Xmas present. They came with the popit's like this kit (only they were in a plastic container with ea sizes compartments) I found I did not like the bulk on the underside of the nail at all. So I tried using a sculpting form underneath, before applying the popit with the gel. For the most part it worked, an minimized filing to the sides only. But after playing with it a few times, I just straight use a sculpting form. You do not get the glossy top nail, as with the popit, but there is still very little filing to do when finished. It is faster than acrylic, but I still prefer acrylic, but hate to do so much hand filing, an do not have a proper electric file yet. Thank You so very much for everything you do Suzie!

I've been having a lot of trouble learning about my allergies because no one knows anything about it. Not even the doctors could tell me if I am safe to use a brand that I tolerate or if I risk getting allergic to the type of acrylic they use. So know I just don't dare having anything but regular polish on my nails because I don't want to take any risks. Hi Suzie, I realy am not a professionnel but I make my own nails since a few years now and you are the one who teached me just by watching all your videos...I just want to tell you that I found a way that I don't needTo take of the polygel under the nails or to pull it to the tip to make it longer. As a matter of fact, it is kind of taking the right bead to put on the dual form for each finger. I'm very satisfied with that kind of gel, even if I do like better working with acrylic. So thak you very much for all your videos. It saves me a lot of money just doing it myself and some times I do practice on a friend, she's very happy when I make hers...

  • @JaneDoe-sm2lm
    @JaneDoe-sm2lm Před 4 lety

    Thanks for all the tips, Suzie and for allowing us to watch you struggle through the learning process of a new product. I think practice makes perfect. Seems like maybe if you used less product to begin with. you can always add on the top or bottom of the new nail without the form on. Also, something to mention, I am in America and we look hard at teaching sanitation and are very cautious not to let someone think they can do these nails without proper prep of the nail beds, making sure they are free of anything so it doesn't get trapped between the nail and the product. If there is bacteria living there, it will eat through the nail and into the nail bed, finger and can cause a bad infection. So sanitation and that doesn't just mean the nail bed being clean, it means your station, yourself, hands, etc., that you don't cross contaminate with clients, too,. You don't want to be liable for a lawsuit, and don't want to cause anyone irreparable damage and pain. As an educated, licensed professional, you understand all this, but it is imperative to pass this information along with emphasis on your videos so no one gets the idea you can just stick something on to your nail and it's going to be fine. As you know, not the case. Thanks for listening and I know you know this, but it's good to let those who aren't educated in this industry know the pitfalls. Gorgeous nails, by the way, and I love that product. I was thinking of getting some of the gels myself, and this was good information. I have done the nail tip over sculptured product, built my nail up and then attached the tip and then applied product over the tip once it was secure. That makes it stronger and you can file them just like a sculptured nail, Of course you have to make sure you put enough product on the tip to file without breaking through to the tip below. You know...: ))

    I use this method of doing my own nails and have been for a while now. When taking off the form the longer the nail, the harder it is to pop off. I find that you can definitely add more product after is cured. I apply the base coat fist just to help it stick better. I also haven’t done a new set in a bout 1-2 months as I have been doing infills. The same prepping but applying the product directly into the nail, not with form. I find doing the infill makes it look much more natural because sometimes as the nails grow out from the fist application there is a little ridge at the end as it is hard to get it completely flush to the nail.

      Not to my knowledge - they were designed to pop on and done. They are designed to eliminate filing the surface. Many find sculpting one of the hardest steps ( besides application ). This method is trying to eliminate the hardest parts about applying fake nails. And it does make for a very smooth finish/ but it misses so many needed expert skills. But if your not comparing to a skilled techs nail and your ok with its shortcomings these will pass. I love this product for learning. Hybrid gels are fun to play with. 😊

When it’s not, the slightest squeeze (from the side “pins” on the tip) will make the mold pop off right away. You squeeze as you wiggle it sideways. ;)
