- We're trying out a new series on the channel with Coby Shield called Track Tested. Idea is basically having a pro driver drive highly built street cars at VIR to see how they hold up. Couldn't have bagged a better car for the pilot episode: Chris's Japanese Attack inspired FD. Looks like a Tsukuba monster, this is its first time ever on track.

If you guys would like Chris's FD file on Assetto, message him @attack_fd3s on IG. It's $5
Heck yeah I do. Any way other than IG?
$5 lol how douchey
@@joshuareyes3259 100s of hours of work. should be more
@@joshuareyes3259it’s 5 dollars lol pick up a shift buddy
@@scottm5191Facebook or email work for ya?
The owner saying he got the car for $7,000 made me realize that I shouldn't have messed around in 9th grade and should've bought a rx-7
I shouldve bought bitcoin instead of playing with my toys
@@AudiRSAvant exactly bro we were terrible entrepreneurs
While you were at it you should’ve bought a house
@@brokenbmw3441 dude I would've been a millionaire by now
I can remember that time frame well. You could buy FDs all day long for 10 to 15 and people like me constantly said the cars weren't worth the money compared to being able to buy a TII for 5k or less, and slightly used Rx8s were 20ish. I got my Rx8 in 2007 for 15k with less than 20k miles on it, so 7k for an fd would have been a good deal, but not out of the realm of possibility.
"Momentarily forgot about the point by passing rule" 🤣
I know I was like nahhhhh that shit was calculated bro...last lap I BET he was thinking "what's the worst that could happen? They kick me off the track?" 😂
"MOMENTARILY"
Exactly what I thought lmao
Came here to comment this lol
They should edit all the nonsense out of the video. Showing beginners that it's okay to disregard the rules and that lap times matter in the beginner class.... Horrible concepts to promote.
Respect for the owner to at least try and track the car, looks hilariously dialed in for a showcar.
The owner definitely did his research. Respect to him for that.
helps that the car isnt stanced and FDs are inherently light and balanced.
grey area stuff cannot be mentioned. you can dial in quite a bit from spirited driving on public roads. *wink wink*
And he didnt just slapped branded parts to it like most showcar owners do.
Most likely the car has been tuned on the streets to get a feel on the car’s attitude. Coby said better tires and better brakes will do the sub 2:00s
Saw this car at sumospeed in virginia beach, was in the fortuneauto booth
Hope you guys enjoy this pilot episode of Track Tested with Coby! Let us know who's car you want to see get tested next!
Brian Faessler’s Mustang
I wanna see one of Rob Dahms vehicles or Shant Yazijians LS swapped Volvo Amazon
I would definitely watch more stuff like this with Coby! Thank you 🙏
YES. Let's see him take BEN'S RX7
This is the type of content we need to keep the industry alive and moving forward. I truly hope you keep this going. Take regular folks' cars and review them! It's cool to see the big CZcamsrs cars, but equally cool to see this regular fella from VA (my home state btw, currently stationed in CA) who built his dream car over a period of many years. Keep it up!
All race cars can be show cars, but not all show cars can be race cars. This is an example of the rare few
It's not really a show car. Those parts are track made parts in Japan. People here consider it "show parts" because its expensive but if you go to a Japanese track day, you will see lots of aero parts from RE Amemiya, Varis, Voltex, C-West, etc. used extensively.
All cars are race cars if you are brave enough
The FD's owner thought he was building a "show car" and inadvertently built a proper race car. The early 2000's RE Amemiya Super G vibes are nostalgic. It's SICK. Well done.
"Coby momentarily forgot about the point-by rule" hahahaha, nice
Haha or rather, the other cars forgot about the point-by rule. Car shreds!
@@G_Ozare that GTR certainly fuckin did
I bet Lin was relieved that his Evo is still top dog for the G&G crew at VIR.
If the car was further dialed in (or maybe even in its current state), if not for the beginner class traffic, I have a feeling Coby could've shaved off a few more seconds.
Really just with some fresh 200tw tires and 2 more psi it would have eclipsed the Evo.
@@GearsandGasolineMitsubishi pun intended?
@@GearsandGasoline "eclipsed the Evo."
@@GearsandGasoline nice lol
I've had point-by amnesia too! It's a very serious disease, I hope Coby gets some treatment for that 😂(I found the best treatment was to drive a Miata)
When driving a Miata sometimes I get a different kind of pointby amnesia
The proper procedure for a Miata is to just rig a motorized arm-and-finger assembly to the door so that you're always pointing everyone by at all times. You don't have to worry about getting passed in a corner, because Miata, and on the straights everyone can just easily slide on by. Perfect system.
This feels like the Hot Version episodes where builders come with their cars and let Tsuchiya, Orido and Taniguchi rip on their cars. Just needs the pointers while going through the specs. "👆"
And the girls in skimpy clothing of course
FACTS!
EXACTLY!!!!! this needs to be continued
@@Mrzacman5001exactly, except it will be Ben's in skimpy clothing
Hot Version My Car Chlalenge
Being able to set a pretty good lap time in a built car that has never seen track time is probably a high praise for all who were involved in the build, which proved that they built it well.
To know that it doesn't suck is one thing, to hear that it laps that fast is another.
BTW, is the Assetto Corsa mod for Chris' RX-7 FD3S a private one?
I definitely want access to the mod as well
Following thread
Up ( for the mod link )
Pinned post an hour ago, it's $5. We got some Assetto players in here, nice.
Good quality parts and a good alignment is all you need, he might not have any track time but I bet he's been on some mountain roads before and would know if it was actually bad.
I already want more episodes like this. Pushing cars to their limits is what we love to see. Keep it up G&G
Loved being on track with it. Sounded great as he passed me on the front stretch 😂
Bro Really wanted to be Keisuke.
Nani, Kansen Dorifto :v
That was my first thought...
Who doesn't?
No doubt
Do you not?
Dude built it for the aesthetic but still did his research on functionality. Good shit! You also don’t need to “build” a car for the track. Take what you plan to track as is and build it from a baseline. You can start with tires, pads, brake fluid so your session doesn’t end early though.
Exactly. Do basic brake stuff, and maybe research online to see if the car NEEDS a specific mod or two to keep it safe (maybe the oil starves in hard cornering or such). But otherwise, take it to the track, and see what YOU think needs to be improved on
The braaaaaaaps will continue until morale improves
I love the sticker that says MAXIMUM ATTACK! It makes you wanna floor it.. good job chris, nobody can say that your car is just for show.. love the sounds.. this vid is like a rotary asmr video..❤❤❤
This is a great way to put more "down to earth" content on the channel! Awesome video!
Also, Cody is just insanely cool and collected! Even acting like a show host, and talking to the camera. I definitely enjoyed this episode!
I also really enjoyed the amount of car noise and raw footage of a racecar.
Please do more♥️
I wish Colby could be the stig for this channel, and u have him drive a bunch of different cars.
Love that he can explain what he is feeling and seeing.
One of my favorite videos for awhile
Painter money lol. From one to another, you killed it man. Love it.
Chris is built different. Sim time or not, keeping that thing on the tarmac itself is an achievement for someone with no on track experience. I hope to see it again on the channel! Love this series idea, too, I'm in for more.
Thanks for the kind words buddy! I’m looking to go way faster than a 2:20 in the next few events!
That last lap POV was just everything right with the rotary RX-7 when it is set up correctly. What a car and what a lap by Colby. Chris should be super proud of what he has built through the years
Absolutely love this concept for a series, please continue to make more!
This Rx7 is a beaut, I mean the sounds it makes, the flames it shoots, the power to weight ratio, the looks of it and the mods done to it is amazing.
Aboslutely phenomenal, dude's living my RX-7 dream to the fullest
HUGE props to Chris for taking this car on track. There are so many "track inspired" builds out there that never do what they're built to do. This is awesome.
12:37 😂bros in the zone rn what you mean point by
You both should do an ultimate sleeper build! Both buy a sleeper style car and then make fast whilst keeping it sleeper as possible be fun to watch!
Man, this RX-7 has been my wallpaper for a year
a foot cam in the corner of the screen would be awesome for POV videos!
Yeah footcam coming
I always love that ya'll include the fastest lap as an unbroken in-car shot.
Kudos to Cody for being courageous enough to absolutely *send it* in someone else’s project car, especially one built at home. He was absolutely flying in that 2:04.55 lap.
Best build I've seen in a long time wow. Great video and build!
This is exactly the type of car I would build if I actually had money lol. Amazing job by Chris!
Please please continue this series!
As a follower of Dogfight Time Attack, I knew I would love this car from the second I saw that slap on there
This is an awesome idea for a series, guys! I can't wait for the next one.
This is a really neat little series. I like the breakdowns like in Hot version. Where this Assetto Corsa mod tho???????????????
awesome video! Need that assetto link to download and try the car aswell
Same. Came looking for a link to the assetto mod!
This Track Tested with Coby episode is sure fun to watch...
We need to test the other Ben RX7 with that honda thingy under the hood... 😅😅
Jokes aside, I do love this episode...
Cheers guys!!
This car was incredible to watch at VIR, sounded absolutely insane on the track.
Wow, way more content like this please, great watch and coverage! Heck of a build, humble builder, phenomenal car 🤙
A Gears and Gasoline track day would be pretty awesome with the whole crew
I didn't pay for the paint is the best line I've heard for a build
15 seconds behind a pro driver for the first time ever on a race track is FLYING
Im already loving this series.. keep it coming
thank you so much for the added context bubbles to help the viewer understand some situations like what happened at 5:50. Love your work every time
loved it! Cool new series and I look forward to the next episodes.
Awesome to see cars from Nova ( northern VA) on here. The car scene there is crazy. From tuners to multi million dollar hyper cars. Everytime I come back to visit I feel like I'm in a car spotters paradise
He’s from the Richmond area
Love the series, love that it's pure sound, with no music. Keep it up!
Super fun video! I can’t wait for more in this series
Awesome video as always G&G Crew.
love the idea for this series. POV driving clips are the highlight, along with Coby's insight on car dynamics
Great start to a series! Refreshing to have a rotary on the channel without Ben bashing it at every chance.
pumped about this new series! love the format. great entertainment guys.
This is the most “JDM” RX-7 I’ve seen outside of Japan. Well done to the owner.
Really amazing car! I love these kind of videos from time to time. The drivers eye and backstory are nicely done. The passion and care of the owner are nice to watch!
This is the content that I come to CZcams for! OUTSTANDING job to the whole team and a big shout out to the builder who clearly did he research on effective, dialed performance modifications that actually affect the car's performance in a good way.
This was awesome. My guy Chris is out there living his dreams. You love to see it.
I can already tell this is going to be a great series! 👌🏼👌🏼
I'm building an FD time attack car atm that's gutted, caged, and stitch welded. The Mazda engineers did a brilliant job with geometry and balance of this car. A 13B single turbo with the oem 5-speed has the perfect weight to power ratio. Trying not to go overboard on aesthetics just maximize seat time and work on good technique. Smart engine management , suspension setup, and sensors can really help maximizing tire wear.
this is by far one of the most enjoyable video I've watched on CZcams this year. The story, from show car to an actually incredibly capable track car, to a cool owner that drove on the track for the first time with that car (lol). Coby is also cool, would be nice to hear a bit more about the way the car feels etc. This is awesome guys!
Really like this video concept guys!
What an awesome episode. Keep these coming please! 🙏
You guys seriously killed it with this! I can see this becoming a new favorite series. Thank you for sharing this!
This is really good video!!
Love this!!! Can't wait to see more in future
What a lovely video, thank you G&G
Cool video. Wouldn't mind seeing more like this from time to time.
It makes an excellent noise, look forward to seeing more!
So it turned out to be a track car posing as a show car. Interesting series, subscribed.
Great Vid, loved it
Great video this week guys!!! Nothing like starting your morning off with some good Ole G & G! Been watching watching for awhile keep up the good work guys!
Awesome episode, the sound of the rotary🤘😎🤘
Happy for you my guy, enjoy to the fullest!
Thanks brotha! Can’t wait to see yours in person!
That FD is beautiful!!! Sounds amazing too!
This car looks awesome 😎 Huge respect on the build!
I’m stoked he’s using it at the track and pushing it way harder than it’d ever go on the street, but damn, I hope he leaves it at 8/10 or 9/10.
It’s so easy to damage a car that’s THIS nice at a track. Find the gravel once, drop a tire off the end of a curb, even just gojng off into the grass. Commonly gone off areas can be so beat they’ll put the car in the air and crack windshields. It’d ruin all that nice aero on the front and probably more.
It’s only money, but I don’t want it to discourage him from the sport if he makes one mistake! You have to do these kinds of things to learn to go fast. (Just ask coby!)
We're gonna need those AC files.
Please do more of these! And that is super impressive how reliable Chris' car was first time out!
What a fun short episode and an Awesome car!
For Roy! 🍻
Great to see another FD on the track. It’s always amusing to me to see so many Chris’s own FD’s. 😉👏🏻😎
I love the idea of the new series!
This is awesome! My first car was a 1984 Buick Park Avenue!! It wasn't until I was in my 40's till I really got into cars, great start to this new video series.
Love the car, love this content. Thanks guys.
I love the premise of this video. Great to see a car like that on track!
Damn, buddy went wild! Kudos for such an awesome build!
You just had to end it with that beautiful idle sound aye G&G? This vid is chef's kiss😙👌
interesting concept, excited to see more!
Awesome to see some good running rotary!
Awesome video!!!
Sounds sick bro!
Chris seems so humble and passionate; loved the video!
Awesome sound in this video!
Amazing content. Would love to see more like this
Very cool car. I’ve tracked a lot of my cars including an exige but this RX7 is probably one of my bucket list cars.
Friendly reminder to those new on track, Toyo R888 tires are considered not very good track tires. They fall short on grip, predictability, understeer and oversteer, etc. RT660 (very grippy) or Continental ExtremeContactForce (long lasting, wet driving) would be better alternatives. Yokohama AD09’s are also a great balance of grip, wear, wet driving, and street comfort. Prices are all comparable.
No joke guys you are doing a wonderful job putting smiles in many faces.
keep up the good work
Lol, he momentarily forgot 😂 poor guy was in the zone
man i give chris all the respect. the fd has evolved so much form a montego blue fd in wing command parking lot meet to this well over a decade later. def give this builder some attention. that fd has seen an unreal amount of love in its life.
This was great. Nice car!
