    This pump works as described. I made my bracket so it lays flat against the existing bracket. Works a lot better. Thanks for the video!

    Glad to see this done, I got a `90 with a VRO thats been disconnected for a while, but I'd like to free up room to aid in lower unit removal. May go this route. Smokes more because you're running a constant 50:1 instead of variable rate :) BTW, dig the tall beer in the background =) A must for O/B work!

    Nice video. Just finished doing my 91 60 hp evinrude as well and trying to make sure im unhooking all the correct wires. Obviously the wire harness from the vro gets unhooked but wondering if I also need to disconnect the 2 wires coming up from the tank. brown and black I believe. and will disconnecting these cause the overheat alarm not to work?

    Hey Jeff - thanks for posting the video. I got the same issue with my 70hp. Couple questions for you, if you dont mind: (1.) At 4:10 you mention a "Pulse" connection. When replacing for the new pump, all we gotta do is reconect the same line at the new pulse connection? (2.) Is it still running OK? (3.) Other than the "bed" you built for the new pump, are there any other necessary adapations? Thanks so much!

    I have a 1990 60hp and had the VRO disconnected. My question is do have to change the fuel pump or does the engine operate better with a non vro fuel pump?

    I have a 130hp Evinrude and was going to convert to this pump as well. On the back of the pump there is a middle hole, which I believe is the pulse if you are mounting it directly against the motor. Did you have to cover or plug up that pulse hole since you are getting pulse through a hose? Also, how is it running now? Does this fuel pump work well even when giving it full throttle?

      Did you ever figure out if you had to block off the back side of the fuel pump If you just use the pulse port / connector ?

    This video is very helpful. I'm doing the same replacement. However one question is about the tube coming off the bottom of the engine. At 4:16 in the video you can clearly see this tube. Was this the old oil line? Does it need to be capped off?

    • @stephenbaber6429
      @stephenbaber6429 Před 9 lety

      Stephen Baber I got advice on this. It is the fuel return line from the carburetor front cover. It connects to the bottom of the carburetor cover to recapture fuel from the carbs when the engine is tilted up out of the water.

    • @jefflundstrom6878
      @jefflundstrom6878  Před 7 lety

      The fuel filter is between the tank and the engine, it is not shown anywhere here.

    Do you know if there is a spot on the motor that has the serial number as from the sticker on the rear... mine just tore and I only have half the sticker. I can't imagine that sticker would be the only spot to find it.

    • @flytech81
      @flytech81 Před 7 lety

      Clay Torlina there should be a freeze plug with a number on it, write it down and call evinrude customer support, they can get it for you.

  • @williamriley2528
    @williamriley2528 Před 4 lety

    You need a water pump impeller....! Without the VARIABLE VRO, and now at a CONSTANT 50/1 premix ratio, you'll be just a tad oil rich at all throttle settings except wide open...

      @jefflundstrom6878  Před 4 lety

      Thanks, I have sold the motor and boat, but this could be great for the next guy.

  • @philldownes8685
    @philldownes8685 Před 4 lety

    best thing to do with any vro motor is get rid of VRO. its troublesome can destroy your motor and way to expensive to replace. best off with old style pump with extremely good reliability and then just give it its proper mix of 50 to 1... the vrp main problem is starving the motor of oil.

      mine looks the same as yours...
