It's not all relevant

Not everything in a story is relevant to the main point of the story.
As we run the story back in our heads, all the pieces become linked and often seem to paly an equally important part in the overall story.
But you're telling your story to illustrate a point, so make sure you only share the bits of the story that are relevant to that poingand therefore to your audience.
