    My 2021 Airstream Bambi "Peanut" was destroyed in a freak hail storm. Getting it repaired is almost impossible. The storm was pretty dang awful to ride out too!
    Today, I'll show you the storm, the damage, and why I might not have a place to live 😱

      Why does it need repair if there's no holes? No leaks? You have a 5th wheeler. Is that your only place to live? Try HUD apartment life. Your privacy is intact. No theft. I envy you. Being able to come and go as you please.

    As the survivor of a Texas tornado (in 2019), I would like to strongly encourage you that if you receive an alert that says to get inside a building, GET INSIDE AN ACTUAL BUILDING (assuming there’s one nearby). A tornado will take you WITH IT if you’re inside your airstream or your 5th wheel and it won’t matter where you’re standing inside!

    • @lyfandeth
      @lyfandeth Před měsícem

      The problem is how to get the alerts. If you rely on cell phones, the carriers perform rather poorly, i.e. sending routine tests at 3amm. Or not sending them at all. The system is pretty dysfunctional.
      If you rely on the NOAA weather radio, you'd have to fuss with channels every time you moved, and some of those deliver alerts over such a wide area that severe rain 50 miles away gets you alerts all night long. Also, a mixed blessing.

    • @MadgazelleFilms
      @MadgazelleFilms Před měsícem +1

      In my case, both the local tornado siren and my cell phone alerted at the same time. The cell phone alert specifically said there was a tornado on the ground near me. Within 90 seconds, it was upon us. Having lived through that experience, I’m grateful for both forms of alert, even when they’re testing. They both saved my life.

    I have lived in my Toyota Prius for five years and there is a reason I choose national forests when I can. I lived in Oklahoma City for seven years when I was working and became *very* familiar with hail and tornado damage, both to houses and personal vehicles. The car dealers in OKC all have sturdy coverings built in their lots to mitigate damage--nothing works 100% to prevent hail damage--and many older homes have carport covers for theirs; the newly built houses mostly do not, unless the buyer builds one.
    Forest cover can reduce damaging hail, which I have experienced. My heart goes out to you, Robin. You have experience dealing with insurance companies, which works to your benefit, but you are now learning about the Replacement Theory!

      I can tell you in the Pacific Northwest there's an awful lot of people who get killed by tree branches falling on their vehicle so be very careful where you choose to do this. Winds can get up to 50 MPH with winter storms. Those trees fall over from the roots up.
      When we get ice storms. It's not that uncommon for whole entire tree branches to just crack and fall off on top of your car!
      That's why they regularly tell people to stay home.
      They don't listen and then the first responders get to go get them or recover their body underneath a thousand pound tree limb.

The insurance adjusters were swamped, but when they made it out, they admitted that the quality roofers they recommended were now booked for several months ahead. I chose to wait, but some people didn't and not a few of those got hit with the sleazebag scammers who move in at times like that. The storm was in the spring. Sorry but you're not explaining much here. How is the 5th wheel almost unlivable? You don't provide any details. And your Airstream has a bunch of dents- it just looks pretty cosmetic to me. I don't mean to sound ignorant, But if it's just dented up, you might want to sell at a discount, take your check, and invest in a new RV. I just found out an Airstream loses 20-40% of its value in a major hailstorm. That's hardly destroyed. Heck, I'd take that discount myself if the damage is only cosmetic. Or just keep it as is, assuming nothing is actually smashed. It's the people with solar panels I feel sorry for.

  • @DrsharpRothstein
    @DrsharpRothstein Před měsícem +12

    From your description all of your damage is cosmetic. Did the hail destroy the structural integrity? Broken windows, leaking rain from holes, sprung seams?
    The broken items you have shown can be replaced.
    You might not have to replace the body panels, try a specialized automotive body shop that removes hail dents. They could well fix your damage without having to remove body panels and do so rather guickly and far cheaper.

    So sorry to hear about the damage, Robin!!!! I’ve been watching your videos since around 2018 in preparation of buying my RV which is a 2019 Casita Spirit Deluxe. About 2 years ago I was planning on selling my house and going full time in a new 25’ Airstream International, but I passed on Airstream because of the potential for extensive damage from hail. Decided my full time rig would be a molded fiberglass Bigfoot 25 which is so much more durable and rugged than a fragile Airstream. Ultimately decided not to full time but please consider MOLDED fiberglass as your next full time home. And if fiberglass does get damaged, it is much easier to repair than an AS. Best of luck moving forward.

    In addition to the Airstream factory in Jackson Center, Ohio, there is another facility. P&S Trailers in Helena, Ohio not too far from Jackson Center. They specialize in Airstreams from restoration to customizing to creating concession stands out of them. P&S would be more likely to help with the replacement of the panels than Airstream. It would take time, but I can assure you the work and service is top notch. I had them completely rebuild my 1959 Trade Wind. Good luck.

    I'm so sorry, Robin!! These folks in the comments trying to minimize your struggle and saying it's just some dimples and aesthetics, apparently have no idea how that trashes the value of a very expensive Airstream. Those little pings in the Airstream would not bother me one bit, unless there is damage beyond that. When we lived in Texas (in our Class C) we experienced many freak storms, including a tornado that touched down very close to where we were parked, and it is really scary! It sounded like there was a massive train about to plummet into us, and we were rocking back and forth. Thank the Lord it instantly stopped and we had no damage at all, which was really a miracle! Glad you and your friend were safe.
