Summer is just about over (actually I think it's officially over now), but that doesn't mean I can't sneak in another sunshine-filled arrangement of Sunyshore City! I actually arranged this song before, waaaay back in 2014! It was the culmination of a 5-part recording tutorial series I did (don't watch it, it's old and outdated haha, would love to update it after Year of Sinnoh though!), but I thought that the Year of Sinnoh would be the perfect time to give it a fresh coat of paint! Looking back, I'm actually not really a big fan of my old arrangement, so I axed quite a bit of what I did, and instead wrote a new arrangement that stay relatively true to the original! Hard to believe that I did a cover of this 6 years ago, wow.
Since Sunyshore is such a bright and uplifting place, I decided to take inspiration from one of the most bright and uplifting bands I know, and love, T-SQUARE! I am a massive MASSIVE T-SQUARE fan, after all, they're probably the best-known band that features an EWI in the lead instrument spot! This arrangement is like 80% a T-SQUARE rip-off, 10% an ABBA tune, and 10% Wii Fit Results Music... I don't know how all those things mixed together, but I guess that's just the power of 80's pop, haha! There's no saxophone in this arrangement ANYWHERE, as I opted to use EWI for the lead instead! I had to practice guitar quite a bit for this arrangement, both acoustic and electric! Since this tune is in A major (plus 8 bars of E major at the very beginning), it was a lot of fun to write big open voicings for the acoustic guitar, and maaaaan, I love the sound of a good double tracked, hard-panned acoustic guitar. Feels so... epic but also campfire-y at the same time! I also have to acknowledge the S L A P bass that I used in this video... I got this Fender Jazz bass looking to use it for some brighter-sounding bass tones, including slap, and MAN did it deliver on this track! The sound of slap on a jazz bass is honestly so iconic, and I am so happy that I've got one in my arsenal now, and will be able to use it for future tracks!

This song means so much to me. As a kid, I was actually stuck on Pokemon Diamond for a long time before finishing it a year later after I first got it. Because I didnât pay attention to the dialogue, I didnât know I had to travel up Mt Coronet to fight Team Galactic, and I was so confused on where to go next, and I always wondered how to access Sunyshore city. I eventually figured it out on my own by accident, and when I took my steps into Sunyshore city and heard this theme, it felt like a new beginning. I finally made progress on a game I loved.

I had the exact same experience! Took me way longer than it should have for me to have beat this game. And I'm right there with you with the new beginning in Sunnyshore, well in my head it felt like the beginning of the final stretch, the final push. Man, no other game in the series tops this one!

Just Some Guy with a chin Mustache thanks! Iâve been using the original MIDI files as reference to capture some the style of how the Gen 4 composers wrote for the DS sound system. Itâs really interesting to see the original data for these songs that Iâve known for so long!

thanks! i'm proficient at several but would not call myself a master of anything (except maaaybe saxophone but that would be a stretch to say that even!) that's why I like working with other musicians who have put the time in on their primary instruments to master their skills :)

I'm in love with the instrumentation here; especially with the acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and slap bass. It sounds so different from your usual arrangements but the almighty EWI keeps it just familiar enough. Love this one, it takes pride in its uniqueness! :)

Of all the skills you can have related to PokĂŠmon, like competitive battling or drawing, I think being able to play PokĂŠmon music is the best.

I cannot express just how many memories this brings back. It's my favorite song in the game and honestly, looking back on it, I would spend hours just wandering around listening to the music. I showed signs of being a musician before I was even passionate about it, which is strange to think about yet heartwarming. It's amazing to think just how much music from video games (Pokemon especially) influenced me as a kid. I've was hoping this cover would come, and I was certainly not disappointed. Keep up the amazing work!

It was really my first introduction into the idea of jazz reharms and I honestly think I wouldn't be the musician or person I am today without that, and jazz fusion soundtracks like pokemon battle revolution.Seeing how you've evolved since then as a musician is also such an inspiration to me and I can't thank you enough for doing my favourite song in the game justice.
