- In this short documentary, the Royal Family Channel looks back on the twelve days of mourning that followed the tragic death of Queen Elizabeth II. Piecing together exclusive royal footage, interviews and news coverage, we remember the moment that shook the world one year on.
Thursday 8th September 2022, 6:30pm, the news that everyone knew would come, and yet no one was really prepared for. The death of the only monarch most Britons ever knew brought to an end a reign which had lasted 70 years and 214 days - the longest in British history. Steadfast in her service to country and Commonwealth; a constant in British post-war public life - the outpouring of grief which greeted her death was powerful and personal. Four out of five of the UK’s population weren’t even alive when she ascended the throne.

She promised to do her duty all her life, and kept her word, until the day she died.
A light went out in our lives, at that moment.
We all felt the loss of her kind smile and sparkling eyes.
Few have dedicated themselves to so many others, with such dignity, grace, and love, as this remarkable woman.

I feel lucky to live in the era of her reign and to discover what an exceptional woman she was. Not every nation or generation can consider themselves blessed to have such great leaders like her. I still miss her and she was not even my queen.

OK I am sobbing (again) just thinking of how much she meant for so many people! At 60 years old I remember the Queen was part of our morning announcements each day at school (in Canada). I had a scrapbook of my mothers clippings in honor of the queen which I cherish to this day. She was, by me, respected and adored.
We sang Oh Canada and God save the queen each morning until about grade 6.

As a 55 year old Canadian, I, too, remember singing the British anthem and pledging ourselves to the glorious Queen. She will forever be missed by myself and my family. Long live the King. ❤

My longest and dearest friend passed away yesterday after a four year battle with colon cancer. I forgot it was the day our Queen passed away. I’m doubly sad today. Two beautiful, dignified ladies gone but never forgotten. 🙏🏻

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II gave of herself to serve her country whether her life be long or short. Well, we were fortunate, it was a gloriously long reign. She will always be missed. I was visiting a friend when this news came on tv. I was so upset and my friend asked "why are you upset, you did not know her"? Very difficult to explain to someone whose whole life has been lived in a Republic. Very sad day which many expected, but never wanted to experiencr. 12 months ha
It is so very hard to believe that one year has gone by since we lost an icon of the world. She is missed and will be for as long as I live.

Sending my love to the Royal Family. On this day, I was on my lunch break at my job and watching BBC when the breaking news alerts broke out.
She was a remarkable Queen and remarkable woman, I am so sorry that the Queen is no longer with us
I’m from Australia and I’m 20 years old and I still remember the day when I heard the Queen died. I was at home with my family and I just woke up and I grabbed my phone to turn off the alarm and just as I turned it off I saw an Apple News+ alert saying that Her Majesty the Queen has died. I was immediately frozen and shocked with sadness, I had to go to work that day I drove there and hearing every radio channel talking about the Queen’s passing, it was raining that day I had drive to work with my sunglasses on so that way no one would see me crying. When I arrived at work I see all my team mates crying and sad throughout that day my manager turned off the music playing through the store for a moment of silence and paying tribute to her majesty.
RIP Queen Elizabeth II, we all miss you so much.

It’s still surreal she’s gone. When I found out she passed, I was at work and wept. It felt like losing my grandmother. She’s deeply missed.

I have been a subject of Her Majesty since the day I was born. She was like a grandmother to me, and always there. I saw her once in 1977 next to Prince Philip and it was such a thrill. She will always be remembered fondly and with enormous respect.
